Just returned from BCV

We are just back from our first stay as DVC owners. We stayed at BCV for the last four nights of our trip. I had requested a pool view and although I am aware that requests can't be guaranteed I was very disappointed with not only the room we were given but the view from the balcony. I like to sit out on the balcony quite a bit so a view is important to me. The room did have a large balcony but looked directly onto the road :( The room was also dull and run down. I was not aware as DVC owners that you were not allowed to move room unless you pay but did ask to move. We were told we could move room the following day, check out at 11am and back in at 4pm.
The following day we moved to a pool view room and the difference was great. The last night the television kept freezing and on the last morning the hairdryer went up in smoke.
I spoke to quite a few people round the pool who had been Beach Club owners for years and said that the refurb, is long overdue.

Welcome to the harsh reality of being a DVC owner. We get our requests about 50% of the time.

We want lake views at VGF so we bought a fixed week lake view to guarantee it.

Some DVC resorts will charge you a room change fee if you enter the room so plan accordingly using room view maps and info..

The policy about changing rooms after check-in are written in the member guidelines. We've been members since 1997 and have gotten our share of surprising standard views and really icky premium views. Bottom line is everyone can't get the best room and/or view. Resorts like the BCV only have one booking category, and you can bet that EVERYONE requests pool view because nobody wants the "road view". SSR also only has one booking view....so it is also a crap shoot....will you get a DTD view or a noisy view near a bus stop? BWV has standard view, pool/garden view or boardwalk view categories. I have had some very wonderful standard views (real point bargains) and some stinky ones (but after all, it is a standard view). I've had some great Boardwalk view rooms and one not very nice Boardwalk view room. The view was great, the room was not. It was the smallest one bedroom we ever had anywhere and the deck barely fit two chairs. But it was the category I requested and on a high floor like I wanted. Someone had to get the stinky room, and it was us that week. I have never been disappointed with my theme park views at BLT. Lake views are quite nice too. And I could deal with a standard view if short on points. That is why it is nice to own a resort that has different booking categories. Or book at one if you don't own there.

Be aware if you want to use your points to book a lake view at Poly. Ground floor does not have a nice lake view.

And of course the room at BCV is looking worn. Those rooms get a lot of use and they can't be updated with new furniture and paint on a yearly basis. Nobody would be able to afford the dues otherwise. That is why it is important for members and guests to take care when staying in the rooms and not be careless (using knives on the countertops with no protection, putting sweaty glasses on furniture without protection, spilling stuff on the carpet and not cleaning it or alerting housekeeping....and it is unbelievable the amount of stuff that disappears out of rooms).

I am happy the BWV is undergoing a refurb right now....and yet, people are complaining about the new look. Just can't please everyone I guess.

We had spent the two previous nights in a GFV lake view so going from that to the BC probably did not help lol

We will in future view resort maps before entering the room.
