Just returned BWV What happened????

No, there won't be any cleaning agents other than dishwasher soap and a small box of laundry detergent.

No, they are not baby proofed in the manner you describe.

As indicated, they give you some laundry soap but not very much. We bring our own.

I would be very careful with the word "everyone", or even thinking this is the majority of visitors. The vast majority of DVC visits go off without a housekeeping or maintenance major glitch. It is just human nature to report bigger problems here on the boards. I'm glad that people do report them here (and more importantly to the proper personnel while they are on-site).

But don't think that the descriptions you see on these threads represent the majority of experiences. There is no "normal" level of dirtiness that you are asking about. Most people find their rooms' cleanliness and maintenance acceptable for most visits.

Thanks for the response. I have to update my packing list now to include, cabinet latches, Clorox wipes & a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. I can't stand dirt and I just want to be prepared for what I may face.

I don't want anyone to think I am aimlessly complaining, the light fixture bothered me a lot as did the light leaking water however I don't care all that much about dust etc i only posted this because we have had so many wonderful trips and have always raved about the room (wanting to live there etc) we just never experienced it being somewhat negletful in appearance and frankly we saved for a while to go on vacation and that stuff just kind of bothered me
of course we will save again for our next trip this time may try for OKW not because of the problems just that DH loves the rooms there they are bigger and it is a little more peaceful kids will miss the slide though and I will miss the fireworks seen from my balcony when I am home at 9 for illuminations!!!!

It certainly doesn't seem aimless to me. Anything with electricity and water is dangerous. :scared1: If mousekeeping/maintenance can't keep up with the demand then it is important that these concerns be made clear to the "powers that be". These resorts are an investment. People (members and DVC) should want a good return on the investment. If a place is clean and in working order people tend to try to keep it that way. If it starts to go into disrepair people figure, we'll heck, if they don't care why should we.

If we, as members, see that the lack of or lackadazical cleaning and/or maintence is a concern then I would hope that DVC should see it as a concern too.

If all the other resorts can have daily mousekeeping (and from my stay at the Fort Wilderness cabins it was excellent!) why can't the DVC resorts get the once-a-week cleaning right all the time?

We had a good stay at BW but we did have room issues.
1 - There was a hole about the size of a 50 cent piece in the drywall in the entry of our 1bdrm.
2 - The coffee table had a loose leg and you could almost take it off
3 - The toilet was starting to go bad and you could hear it running
4 - The belt in the dryer was going out because it made a terrible high screech noise
5 - The curtain rod in the master almost fell off

Now I did call maintanence and they just said "Thank you" and hung up, never asked what room number or anything. Found out that maintanence is now centralized and not in the specific resort so whatever, how would they know where I was at.

Upon check-out, I did leave the list with the front desk.

Is this an issue of DVC getting too large at WDW? Just wait until AKV and maybe Cont. villas get online. I believe it is an issue of hiring enough help to take care of all the properties. We stayed at SSR last week and though we had no major problems oursleves, we could tell that SSR is very large and crowded. The buses were very crowded and sometimes impossible to get on. Artist Palate was extremely crowded in the morning. Even though this was SSr, these issues are all tied together with the rapid growth of DVC and not being able to take care of what we own.

We had a light that leaked water at OKW once, in a building that had just been finished.. You should absolutely have reported it, it can cause more damage and be more expensive to fix if maintenance doesn't know about it. Either there was a broken seal or a craked drain pipe in the room above you.

Maintenance at OKW thank us profusely for reporting the problem (a contractor left the bathtub above improperly sealed) and bought us dinner at Olivia's.

Agreed... you need to think of this as your own home... if there is a leak, a short, a problem... take care of it... by reporting it. Not reporting it doesn't reduce expenses, it only lets the problem get worse. And the next guest will have to deal with it.

It's not a DVC issue, but it may well be a Walt Disney World issue.

DVC doesn't manage the resorts. The same people that provide transportation to SSR and BWV also provide transportation to the Grand Floridian, Contemporary and the other 20 or so Disney resorts.

Having to wait 15 minutes to order breakfast or waiting for the next bus during peak hours is just reality. I don't think it's reasonable to expect Disney to build and staff a restaurant 2x what the resort size would dictate just so that people will have shorter waits during the handful of peak dining hours.

That said, the quality of the workforce is already an issue and DVC growth won't help the situation. If WDW has to increase its workforce from 60,000 to 61k to 62k, and they aren't willing to pay higher wages, they will probably have to lower standards. People you previously would have declined are suddenly prime candidates when there are only so many willing to work for the pay rate being offered.

I suspect its a case of mousekeeping rushing to get the job done. And the dusty room complaint...that's one I find to be a bit odd. That implies the room has been out of circulation for some reason.

I had not thought about the popularity being a factor. Good point.

I also read on another thread recently that some members call the front desk when they are leaving to give Housekeeping a head's up, especially when they depart significantly earlier than 11 am.

If enough members would do this, it might more than offset the "self-extenders" and maybe help Housekeeping and maintenance identify and address maintenance issues more promptly.

I really like the "looks" of BWV and hope there are no serious hidden flaws.

Hi, from another south Louisiana resident. We own at BWV and the only issue we had was with the dryer in the unit. However, maintenace came right up and fixed it. I wish that I could remmeber the guy's name because he was very nice. Our 2bd unit was spotless.

After staying at the BWV during Hurricane Charlie - I think the shoddy workmanship theory is out the window. A few roof shingles off, a couple of outdoor light fixtures destroyed - that was it. From what we understand from talking to contractors on site - DH is in the home construction field (we actually ran into some his clients at the F&WF) - Disney's standards are actually a lot higher than the laws require in FL. Which is very unusual in construction trades.

We just returned from a 10-day stay at BWV. Our first DVC trip. :goodvibes

Not only did we have a fabulous time, we were in our room by 2:30, the room was spotless - as was the rest of the resort - I really love the lobby at the Boardwalk.

I was looking carefully for maint/housekeeping issues because of what I read on this board.

We're looking forward to our 2nd trip in January with a Boardwalk view.:cloud9:

Hi, glad to see another Louisiana DVC owner. You ever go during Mardi Gras?
We did in 2005, it was great weather.

I just got off the phone 5 minutes ago from making a reservation in a 2BR boardwalk view. DD11 thinks we are staying in a 1 BR. I think I'll surprise her and not tell her beforehand.

I wish I had more points, but I also like doing the CRO resorts so I don't want to tie up all my vacation dough.

This is good to hear, especially from people in the industry. I wonder what is up with the poster who said it is common knowledge behind the scenes that there are constuction issues with BWV?????

I guess there could be some hidden flaw stuff. We have seen a lot of that over the years in New Orleans new construction.

Less that 5 hours ago my plane landed in NYC after a great 5 day stay at the Boardwalk. I must admitt; this thread stuck in my mind as I entered my 1 BR unit. Let me begin by saying the room was in excellent condition. I was the poster who walked into SSR last July to a bathroom with a juzuzzi whose tiles were all broken around the base. Well, that wasn't the case here at all. Everything was very clean, no dust and everything was in working. I was even surprised to see the little "towel critters" in three locations. I haven't seen this in awhile.

I had a great stay dispite the fact that my room wasn't ready when I checked in around 11:30. I did get in about 2:00 which wasn't that bad. I headed right to the pool and de-stressed. And, I will make sure that I always request a room on floors 2 and above. I had a 1st floor room and no balcony. I had a patio hidden behind bushes and bushes bring bugs! :rotfl: No needless to say I missed drinking my coffee in the mornings on my balcony.

But again, I just wanted to say that there was absolutely nothing wrong with my room and it was clean!

I love it, everytime someone sees a bug or something breaks or whatever they hop on the boards and go nuts. The buildings are shoddy, etc. etc. Hello people, it's called wear and tear. Reality check, if thousands of people stayed in your home every year, don't u think things would start to break down. There are only 3 of us in our home and we built our house and 7 years later it has some wear and tear. Disney has a magical thing called maintenance, you pick up the phone and they show up and fix the problem in no time. I only wish I had that option in my own home!!! I really don't understand why the boards have become a place to moan and groan about things that weren't quite perfect in the resorts. It's the happiest place on earth, have some fun, let maintenace worry about it and come back from the trip and post the fun and happy stuff on the boards!!!

I partially agree, however, we pay a hefty fee for maintenance and housekeeping. I don't think it's unreasonable for housekeeping to notice and report obvious issues so the guest can have a more magical stay. I also don't think it's unreasonable for periodic inspections to be done that spefically look for problems.
Although I do report issues with my room, that really should be done for me prior to my arrival. I understand it will never be perfect, but after all, this is Disney, not the local Days Inn. :smokin:

Just returned from a five night stay at BWV in a one bedroom. We had a light bulb out in the bedroom, but it was replaced the same day I called. Since we went to the parks, I don't know how long it was after I called that they came to replace it. No other problems with the rooms. Got in about 2:30 and t&t day was as scheduled and well done.

After reading this Thread, I am so relieved to read this!!!:woohoo:

We also got back from a very clean and well maintained room at the BWV - with a towel animal. Our room wasn't ready when we checked in (we checked in at 9:00am - we spent they night at a hotel near the airport) - and we didn't get in it until after 3:00. But the room itself was very tidy.

Oh, the room was pre-assigned.
