We just came back from 12 wonderful nights at the Swan. We had the $81 hotwire price for 2 rooms. We requested and received connecting non smoking rooms without a problem. We were also upgraded (the CM thought we were Starwood Platinum when she looked at our cards...didn't realize it until after the room assignment that we were just preferred and still let us keep the upgrade) to resort view rooms with balconies in the East wing. We had a gorgeous view of the Dolphin. The rooms were nice, the beds "heavenly", the pool was UNBELIEVABLE, the CM's bent over backwards to be friendly. There were a few conventions going on. Only complaint (and we knew this before hand so we were prepared) was the the bus service. The boat was awesome. The bus however, was not. Getting to MK or AK at park opening was difficult. We would arrive at the bus stop at 7:15 for 8 AM opening and 8:15 for 9:00 AM openings. We usually arrived exactly as the park was opening and were quite rushed. After the Swan, the bus stops at the Dolphin, the Yacht club the Beach Club and the Boardwalk. So getting to any water park (BB or TL), Downtown Disney, MK or AK was typically a 45 minute bus ride. WAY too long for us. Anyway to get on with the positives...Tubbies is nice, the pizza very resaonable and good. If we were given a choice between the Swan and the Dolphin we would chose the Dolphin (after renovations are complete) because of the proximity to the pool, laundry and Tubbies). Oh and the Dolphin fountain had incredible ice cream cones very reasonably. Don't forget your Disney Club card which saved us 20% on all of our food!! The Swan was by far the nicest Disney resort we have stayed at. Very upscale and relaxing (I didn't know there were so many neat water fountains). We all agreed it beat POFQ and CBR hands down (we include MIL and FIL in their 60's as well as DH and I in our 30's and the 4 kiddos). They loved the water slide, the balls you could check out at the pool, the water polo matches that were arranged, the huge waterfall, the 3 foot pool, the baby pool etc...We layed in the hammocks and played on the playground. Watched the ducks, walked the 3 minute walk to the Boardwalk for dinner, walked home from Epcot. Sorry if I'm rambling but we had a fabulous time! I would chose the Swan or Dolphin over the other Epcot resorts for price alone. In my opinion it is quite comparable.

Any questions??:)

We are planning a trip to WDW and staying at the Swan. Finally a good report on this place.
Please tell me about your hotwire price. How did this work.
Thanks for the help.:Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

Sounds like you had a lovely time! Sorry you had so much trouble with the buses. We have never done Early mornings before, and this board has convinced me that we've been missing out on an easy way to ride our favorite rides quickly and easily. We'll be renting a car for the entire trip and now I am glad we are!

Did you eat at any of the Swan/Dolphin restaurants besides Tubbies? I have heard that Gullivers does a great character buffet.

We'll be there in just over a week with our own trip report. I can't wait!

Debbie

Thanks for the great report - lucky you on that"mistaken" ;) upgrade! We stayed at the Dolphin August 2002 and absolutely loved every minute of our stay. We are returning the end of July with a stay at the Swan this time b/c of the renovations. Can't wait! :bounce:

GREAT to hear you had a wonderful stay at the Swan! My wife and I will be there (for the first time) a week from Friday and it's always great to hear favorable reports(<:

Did you use the mini-bar? If so, did it stay consistently cool (I need to store insulin and don't need anything cold, jsut cool)? If possible I'd like to avoid renting a fridge. How was room service? What about service in general? As you probably know, on some of the boards there seems to be quite a negative bias about the Swan and Dolphin, so I was staring to get a bit skittish until I read your report!

As far as I'm concerned, feel free to go on and on and on about your experiences...it's all very helpful (and exciting) for somebody about to stay there for the first time. Thanks.

So happy to hear everything worked out so well! As for the bus service, we too never visit the MK on EE (or any other park). IN FACT, we rarely visit the MK at all (as we have one here in Cali), w/exception to E-Ride eves! :P We are all Sleeping during EE mornings...LOL. ;)

If you want faster bus service and less wait...just walk the three minutes to the BW and quietly pass through the lobby to the bus stop out front. :p It's a little faster, as there are no other stops.

Kudos to you...for obtaining a DREAM price and UPGRADE!:bounce:

Enjoy your MEMORIES...They will hold you over until your next visit to the SWAN/DOLPHIN! ;)

Are you sure it was an error??? Gold does get room category upgrade upon availability at check-in. Platnium gets a jr. suite!

oops, just re-read, you're regular! Sorry, and congratulations. I love Swan/Dolphin Resorts and am homesick for them as I type. We spent 8 nights last month and NOT AT 81.00, I am so jealous.

As someone who drives this route on a regular basis, I can assure you, it's not a 45 minute bus ride.

It takes me 10 minutes to go through all 5 stops... Although most times, with MOD it will only be 2-3 stops. Then from there, it takes me 10 minutes to get to MK... 5 mins to Blizzard, and 5 from BB to AK.

The absolute longest bus ride possible is going from Marketplace to Boardwalk from noon-6pm. That ride I timed to be 28 minutes. Before noon, buses are routed to Typhoon first, then Marketplace, then PI. After 6pm, Boardwalk separates from the 5, and Typhoon closes.

I feel the same way about the Swan! Did you have turn-down service?

We were at the Swan (for the first time) earlier this month also. I thought it was great. Just as good as (if not better in some cases) as any of the Disney deluxes. You just can't beat that location. The front desk staff was extremely friendly, as was everybody else we encountered. Our only complaint was trying to get maid service earlier than 4 or 5 pm. Almost every day we would come back to the room around 3 or 4 pm after being gone from 9:00 on and the room was never made. After day 1, we called and asked for a specific time (11am). The room was made no problem. We didn't call the next day, thinking they got the hint, but no room cleaning until 4 or 5. So we called the next day and asked for 11 am and even with our request, it still didn't get cleaned when we got back to the room around 4. I was a little irritated, but other than that, we really loved the place. I wouldn't hesitate to book it again, and at $81 a nite - it's a steal!!! We did take the bus once FROM MK to the Swan, and the good news there is that you are the first stop. We didn't wait longer than 5 or so minutes, and the ride was maybe another 5 minutes. Not bad.

I don't have ANY problem with the bus service at the Swan/Dolphin (now the POLY...that's another story). ;) Yet, there is another route which seems to TAKE FOREVER...and it's one of the waterparks. I can not recall which one (TL or BB), but we went EVERYWHERE (Animal Kingdom...DTD, etc.) before reaching our destination. On the way back, the park was so close to the Swan/Dolphin...we realized we could have actually "walked" and arrived sooner! This is the only route which seems LONG to moi. Not a BAD ride...just a bit extended. I have had the BEST experiences with Disney BUS drivers. :p Absolutely WONDERFUL memories. Thanks...for all you do!

Hi all I'll try to answer as many questions as possible:

Wenlitz~ re the hotwire price. A while back (maybe about 2 months ago?) there was a post re Swan and Dolphin on hotwire. We researched and were able to secure it for our trip. Not sure who the OP was but maybe if you run a search you could find the original thread? Sorry if I'm not too helpful here :(

#1hockeymom~ DEFINITELY hit the parks in the Am when they first open. The crowds are much smaller. We did lots of research and with the help of the Unofficial Guide and tourguide Mike followed their plans. We NEVER waited in line more than 15 minutes. We rode in the AM and then always had 1 or 2 Fastpasses for the rest of the day. Over the 10 days we were in diseny we rode RnR probably 20 times, ToT about 10, Test Track at least 20 etc. About the rental car, even though the rides to MK and AK as well as water parks were long IMHO it's better than driving. We love the fact that we never had to get in our car. However, if you don't mind driving it would probably be faster (I've never dealt with MK parking so I can't be sure of that).

As far as restaurants we only ate at Tubbies while at the Swan. We had meals at Crystal Palace, Hollywood and Vine, Chef Mickeys and Once Upon a Princess breakfast. Other than that it was counter service as we were on a major budget. Sorry can't help you with that one. :)

Mouseteacher~We can't believe our luck with the upgrade :) The balcony we could have done without as we were only out there once or twice. However the view of the Dolphin was really pretty. e would throw the sheers open first thing in the AM and enjoy!

Ronald Duck~ We did not use the mini bar but did open it to see if we could use it to keep some drinks cool. It was definitely not really cold, just cool. Didn't use room service. However, I did call a few times to get some items for the room (bed rails and pillows on 2 different occasions). Each time I was greeted by a cheerful "Hello" and we received the items within minutes. Every we request we had was honored. It was the best service we've encountered on our 3 trips to disney. for example, on our first morning to the grotto pool I stopped and asked a CM if there was anyplace at the pool to refill our mugs. He replied that there wasn't. He then went on the tell me to go ahead to the little drink stand there and tell them that he said it was okay to fill them this time as we had brought them with us. We didn't do it and walked to the Dolphin instead but I thought that was extremely nice. We had nothing but good experiences there :)

dreamflight~ We did an e ride night too...it was great! Thanks for all your help and advice planning our trip :)

Chip 'n Dale Express~ Sorry...I hope you didn't take the transportation remark personally :). I'm a huge fan of the Disney transportation system and think you all do a great job :) Much better than driving my own car. It is in no way due to the drivers but I don't understand why Disney has the 5 resorts sharing a bus. Beach and Yacht Club and Boardwalk often had to stand (bummer if you have little ones and a stroller). A few comments to help others re transportation:

A bus to Blizzard Beach may not say "Blizzard Beach" but may say "Animal Kingdom". We waited for quite a while before finally asking on of the drivers if a BB bus would be along and he said we should have taken the AK bus. Once we figured that out we did okay. Also the Typhoon Lagoon bus sometimes says "Downtown Disney" as it on that route.

also, after e ride night at MK we waited in a humongous line to leave the MK. Lots of people were really upset as we watched lots of other resorts lines empty much faster (I heard many comments about S/D not being true Disney resorts and people were upset that we shared bus with them). Animal Kingdom has it's own service as well as others. We knew this ahead of time and I'm not complaining just wanted to make others who are staying at Epcot reosrts aware that they will be sharing with all 5 resorts many times so the waits are longer. As far as the 45 minute drive it is definitely true on 2 occasions (one AK and MK) as we left at 8:15 and arrived at 9:00 for one and 7:15 and arrived at 8:00 for the other. Both occasions we had a wheelchair to load, had to wait for people who were running to catch the bus and the driver was kind enough to stop and answer questions for the many folks who couldn't fit on the bus at the Boardwalk Inn or at Downtown Disney who were chatting with him/her. The quickest we ever made it to MK was the time we didn't stop at any resort but S/D the first day we were there and it was only about 15 minutes. Plan to arrive at the bus stop at least 45 minutes before you want to be somewhere.

Now the boats are faster and never more than a 10 minute wait to catch one and 20 minutes commute time. We found on the way home it was faster to get out at the Boardwalk and walk to the Dolphin than make all the stops (I would have been fine waiting but the kids wanted to play lets see if we can get home faster than Grandma and Grandpa). Whew...did that help clarify :)

Jodi1989~ we requested and received turndown service. The maid was late a few nights and just knocked and gave us the chocolates (our kids favorite part of turn down). Most nights the beds were turned down and the kids animals arranged in different ways.

OH..one note about the air conditioning. If your balcony door is open at all it will not click on. We actually called maintanance and had someone come check ours because it wasn't working and it turned out that the door was open a crack..a little embarrassing :)

las3888~we noticed the rooms were maid kind of late too. Not a really big deal though..just as long as I didn't have to do it :)
Yes, being the first on and the first off the bus does have it's advantages. We always got a seat and were the first dropped off. I agree that for the price I would never stay at any of the other Epcot resorts. The S/D was really great!

Hope this helped. Once again Chip 'n Dale Express I hope I didn't offend you. I've always valued your opinion and didn't mean to step on your toes :) The waits were probaby not the norm as you are definitely the expert :)

We are staying at Swan for 12/28-1/02/04. We are currently in 2 queen club level room. Tried to get jr suite when reserving but not available with the teacher's rate. Thinking of trying to upgrade with starwood points on arrival. Thanks for all the info. We are going to check out the resort this week when we stay at BCV 6/22-26! WOO HOO!

Never fear, I never take anything personally. Being a bus driver, I can take anything... I get yelled at on a daily basis from folks who say they've been waiting 3 hours for a Downtown Disney bus... and I stay smiling. It's all part of working for Disney.

Actually... they aren't always shared... it's based on Demand. During the peak morning hours, buses get dispatched to various routes throughout the Epcot resorts. During the afternoon and evening, MK splits the S&D from Y/B/BW... and Downtown Disney separates the BW.

Buses will not say "Blizzard Beach" on them until 9:15. Prior to that, they will just say Animal Kingdom. Also, on the older flip-dot signs, you have to wait for them to scroll.

Thank you for the great information, we will be staying there in
August, very excited. Glad you enjoyed your trip and received a
comp. upgrade. Keep the good information coming.

Sue

Thank you Tyler for the great information! I hope to meet you in person in a week! We appreciate everything you do to make our vacation worry and carefree!

Onceuponadream>> As of last night, we decided to go with a town car or a limo instead of the rental car. Turns out the rental prices doubled since I last looked and I refuse to pay that much for a car a quarter the size of what we normally drive!

Have a wonderful Monday!
