Just really frustrated

So I took the day off of work tomorrow to try to book my DFTW...and it is going to be a nightmare apparently. Doreen informed me that after the lottery is performed for the custom brides hoping to get their times/sites for the 8th of 2008, then I will find out sometime THE FOLLOWING WEEK, not that day, whether I might get the site/time I want.

That particular date wouldn't matter much if I hadn't already booked Randy for photography and booked our lodging, since we're supposed to have a confirmation # soon after booking...I know it can be changed, but what a pain! And if we don't get our 1st choice (which is 10am at the Yacht Club) for the 8th, I could technically miss my chances of calling at the one year mark for future dates, depending on when we find out about the 8th. I just want 10am, at the Yacht Club sometime the 1st or second week of August before my friends and family have to go back to work from their school vacation...and I need it to still be value season. The 8th doesn't matter as much, as the time of day and site....

So, I thought oh well, if I don't get it, I'll try to make all the changes for photography and lodging next week---whenever it is we can get a date...

And, I am planning to shop with my matron of honor (and only bridal party member other than our Best Man) for my dress and hers. Of course of the 12 bridal magazines I've pored through, I have found 2, yes only 2 dresses I like, and the one I really like is only $300!! Yay, right? Not to be found anywhere near me....at least nothing less then 3 1/2 hours away, and I haven't found one at all like it online even. So we find one BM dress we really like online, and a few bridal stores nearby, and of course they do not stock the one we would like to see and have my MOH try on.

I/we are just picky! We are both chunky, ample on the top, on a budget & want something lightweight fabric-wise. I want something simple, no train, not strapless. I just haven't seen anything that I like. So, we'll go shopping of course, but I am so bummed that we can't see either dress tomorrow...

Sorry, I feel better already. People in my non-Disney world think I'm crazy and that the entire process DFTW puts you through is crazy, so they don't understand or care to...Just venting. This planning is NO fun anymore!!!:sad1:

That is such a pain! I don't understand why they can't give you an answer as soon as the lottery is over and the custom brides are informed of the result. Surely they'll know then whether your time and venue are available or not? :confused3 Think positive, at least you're flexible enough to be able to go with another date around the same time, but it sucks that you'll be in limbo for a while until they stop faffing around! I'll keep my fingers crossed that you get a suitable date in your time frame and you know SOON!

As far as the dresses are concerned, you are NOT being picky! You just know what you want and it is frustrating that your favourites are not available nearby. You never know though, you might find something fantastic on your shopping trip!

Here's a  Hope everything works out for you.

Well not taking anything away from the YCG given that I myself got wed there but usually that's not as popular as the Wedding Pavilion so that could work in your favor.

I know it is a pain that it takes so long for them to sort it all out and then notify everyone - I'm not really sure how they do this lottery.

Good luck though :)

Thanks so much Carol Ann, that is super sweet. Only the DISbrides understand any of this I think!!!

Yes, you are correct about the WP being popular & the 2:30 time slot is popular as is 5pm... From what I was told, if there are several custom brides wanting the WP though, a few of them (who still want the 8th as their date) may have to be bumped to another site and/or time once the lottery is over. I am sure that if these brides who don't get their first pick are OK with another date and have to have the WP then I could be in luck, but who knows how long it will take to find out!

Ooh! Ooh! What's the gown you found that you like but can't get anywhere in your area? I have tried on about 60 dresses in the last 2 weeks - I may have seen it! Don't worry about not finding anything you lke in the magazines - I didn't either, and when I got to the shops, I discovered that certain lines which only advertise their pouffy cupcake dresses also have tons of great, simple dresses too.

Maggie Sottero does a lot of simple, destination-wedding type dresses, as does Moonlight ( I *hated* all the Moonlight dresses in the ads but discovered three of my in-store faves were Moonlight). I too didn't want strapless because *everyone* does strapless. But a lot of the dresses with straps ended up looking funky on me - creating arm flab where I could swear there wasn't any before :rotfl:

Also, I know they always say this, but often when you try on the one you liked in the magazine, it doesn't look the same. And when you try on the one that looks blah on the hanger, it's perfect. Maybe that's why I've tried on so dang many dreses! :lmao:

Hang in there [insert kitten-hanging-from-a-branch smiley]

Thanks so much for the reassurance! I just love almost every Jessica McClintock dress I've seen...and the prices are incredible! The one I love is in the newest In-Style wedding issue...simple, halter, no train, a-line...and $320!

Very few shops anywhere near me carry her bridal line, and the one big Jessica M. store is on the far northeast side of the state from me!!

I wear a lot of halter tops because they are flattering and forgiving on me, where most strapless tops emphasize both my flabby arms and my back fat!

I know I can probably find something similar (I'll be taking pics), but I don't think I'll find one that reasonable.

To be honest I have a dress from a prior engagement years ago that I thought I was going to wear, so a dress wasn't originally in my budget, but it is way too heavy and the train is much longer than I remembered it to be!

Thanks again for your words of encouragement!

Check out the David's Bridal Galina line. There are about 4 dresses in there that sound similar to what you want Hope that helps!

I have given heidi all our backups so she can book them for us without us calling, Cant you give doreen your other dates so she can book that if she cant get your 1st choice

Oh, I am SO sorry you have to go into the lottery :( I thought it would be a popular date, it was the one we first thought of, being so lucky in China. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you :)

hi Jodee,

ok, don't laugh at me but I got my Jessica McClintock dress on eBay! ivory, all lace and I think I paid $225 plus shipping. for me, it ended up being perfect because strapless was NOT happening here and I personally wanted sleeves...anyhow, if you just want to play around - put in Jessica McClintock dresses in the search engine - you never know, you might get lucky!

anyway, I wish you a ton of luck - somewhere out there is a dress waiting just for you! and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that you get your date in the end :goodvibes

I guess from what I was told, giving her backup dates is not an option...I have to call each time. I am assuming it is because I'm not having a custom wedding.

Thanks Michelle, you are sooo sweet! I have been checking ebay...I am not opposed to ordering off ebay, but I would love to try on the dress (or at least a few dresses) first. I can't afford to be "stuck" with a dress. It just isn't in our budget for me to be a 2 dress bride!!! We'll see....

I hope you hear some sort of news today about the wedding date! :scared:

Thanks Jenny! That is so sweet! Hopefully I'll hear by the end of the week so that if I don't get it I can call first thing on Monday to find an alternate date...
