why go on a cruise?

I knew a guy in high school who once said that he'd never go on a cruise because he though that, like the doomed Titantic, his ship would sink. Add to that remote possibility the recent illnesses onboard several ships. Then, you're stuck in the middle of the ocean, and I'm sure there are other reasons people cite.

So why a cruise (on any cruiseline)?

Thanks,
Diane
:D

Watching the moonlight reflect off the ocean's water
Being "rocked" to sleep by the motion of the ship
Listening to the sound of the water as you sail along
Eating all the wonderful food
Participating in the fun activities
Visiting the different ports (especially Castaway Cay for DCL cruises!)
Meeting servers and other crew members from all over the world
Going to deck parties
Waving at the sailaway party
Lounging in a comfortable chair on deck to enjoy the view

Ok... I need to cruise again...SOON!

Being able to visit a lot of different places without having to repack between each one.....

My husband has a very stressful job, but he is totally different on a cruise, we call it cruise mode: no worrying about where to go or what to do, food is right there, you can drink and not drive, entertainment is a short walk from your cabin, the scene varies day by day, and the cell phones don't work (for the most part!)

It is also one of the best values for money paid. Most everything is included. We also have friends who do not like cruising and I respect their opinions, but I do not understand them!!! To me cruising is the ultimate high.

I never feel "stuck" out in the ocean....quite the opposite...I feel very free with the wind in my hair and the sun on my face!!! Just watching the waves go by, seeing other shore lines in the distance and wondering what those people are thinking as they see our ship pass by in the distance....seeing different marine life like dolphins and flying fish in their natural habitat....I could on and on!!

There are so many activites onboard you are never bored, or you have the option of just plopping yourself down and vegging out for a week, the choice is yours!!!

I won't even get into the Tiantic mind set.....things have changed greatly since 1912 and I would never say it could not happen again, but the chances are slim and at least today's cruise ships carry more than enough lifeboats!!!!!

If you are thinking about a cruise, do not hesitate to try it. That will be only way to really tell if you like it or not is to experience it yourself!!!

And you could die this afternoon when a meteor drops out of the sky, crashing through your roof and landing squarely on your head.

You could also get the Norwalk virus from your next door neighbor who stopped over for coffee.

Elton- If you decide to go, please take the same one as me! I'd love to meet you, I've seen you three times, and I'm a big fan!

You could indeed go out your front door, trip, hit your head & die....the likelyhood of that is close to nil,as is the ship sinking...

Where else can you go to have everything five minutes away ....theatre..both movies & stage shows...nightclubs,bingo,game shows spa etc;etc....

And MOST important GREAT people !!!

Come on...join us...

Total relaxation.....................stress free..............love the sound of the waves..............the wind on the top decks..............smell of the salt water..................and my kids get along and dont fight for days!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is something about the lure of the ocean. The moonlight shining on it, the salt air, the beauty of turquoise waters that defy imagination. The "tiny" dolphins running with the ship.

The romance of the sea. Simply put.

I was more than a little skeptical about cruising. For our honeymoon 10+ years ago DH wanted to do a cruise and I said 'No Way! I don't want to be stuck on a ship for a week.' For our 10th anniversary I relented and told him we should do the cruise. Well, it was the BEST vacation we had ever taken and now I (we) am hooked!

We enjoy cruising because you can do as little or as much as you want to do. There are many various activities going on all day long. You can join in or just sit in a lounge chair and read all day. There is no deciding where are we going to go to eat each night or who's cooking. No kitchen to clean, beds to make etc. DD8 actually enjoyed cruising more than WDW. It was much more relaxing for her.

You can get sick, hurt, or killed anywhere. I am not going to stop living because I am worried something MIGHT happen.

I have done everything <I>Disney</I> in excess since childhood, but never had any desire to cruise. Then I participated in a TA DCL education program on a <I>Wonder</I> cruise. Now I am <I>more</I> than hooked.

I suppose I have a different outlook than many. From the moment I embark, I view the ship as a fantasy environment. It is a temporary escape from reality, where guests are given special attention and service, and animated characters become real with onstage antics and cuddly photo sessions. I contentedly immerse myself in the DCL environment. I crave the interaction with CMs from around the world. I am fascinated watching the sea (even when rough) in the evening. The deck parties are one of a kind. The food is good (if not great), but having a spectacular server more than makes up for anything lacking. I would cruise DCL even if it was a "<I>Cruise To Nowhere</I>" (no port stops). I could write a book of all my reasons for cruising DCL, but most of all . . .

I do it for the MEMORIES.

Diane,

Take it from someone that NEVER thought she would take a cruise. Last year, after 3 difficult years of watching our mom slowly pass away, we decided it was time for a vacation and tossed in a 3 day cruise on top of 5 days at WDW. We really needed to focus on something different and figured a cruise would take our minds off our sadness. We are 4 adults, with very different ideas of fun so I wasn't sure that a cruise would work for all of us.

Well, after 3 days, all 4 of us were hooked and immediately booked a 7 day cruise.

Highlights are: looking at the ocean at night. You can stand on deck ( or your balcony ) and not see anything else. You feel like you are the only person in the universe.

Watching flying fish...very amusing.

Being catered to by wonderful cast members.

Doing all of the activities offered or doing nothing at all...it is all up to you.

Experiencing new places...St. Thomas was gorgeous.

Meeting new friends.

Castaway Cay.

All I can say is just try it once and I guarantee you will love it.

To. RELAX, RELAX, RELAX!!! Where else can you go and not have to do anything or you have the choice to do everything? I had to literally beg and bribe my husband to cruise, now I can't get him to go on anyother vacation. You are forced to not work. He couldn't work or call and check messages, you just relax, you have no other choice. So because of the "no work" policy we have a wonderful (the best) family vacations.:sunny:

One word: FOOD!

Just think, all the food is paid for already. You can have filet mignon without feeling guilty that it's $30. You can get seconds -- of STEAK! (Twice, now, I've gotten a second filet mignon and prime rib). What other restaurant in the world will let you get seconds without making you pay for it? There's CONSTANT food! I went on an RCCL cruise last year and determined there was all of a half an hour during the day, and four hours at night, that they weren't serving food. And that doesn't include FREE 24-hour room service! Ahhh, food... *sigh* Such wonderful stuff...

Also, I like being able to get on the ship and unpack. And then go places. Without having to repack. And there's so much to do on board! It's like a floating resort. It's awesome. And there's lots of food. Did I mention the food?

To me cruising is the ultimate vacation. It's a no brainer, everything is on board the ship just waiting for you.......

Free live entertainment
Free food (except Palo's, $5 extra pp)
Free movies in the Buena Vista Theater
Spa
ESPN Sport Bar w/BIG screen TV's
Housekeeping two to three times daily
Ice bucket always filled
Disney characters
Adult areas on ship (DCL)
Exotic ports with no packing and unpacking
Castaway Cay (DCL only)
*adult only beach
*Vista Spa massage cabanas
*full service bar and BBQ only minutes from beach
Promenade Deck (deck 4)
*old fashion deck loungers (best place to read)
*quiet
Classes
*wine tasting
*behind the scenes
*navigator series
*entertainment & cooking
*quest speakers
Oh.....I almost forgot there is one HORRIBLE, DEPRESSING, UNTHINKABLE thing about cruising.....you have to get off the ship.
But even DCL has made that a no brainer too.

I enjoy having so many entertainment choices in one place... whether you just want to take it easy, stroll the decks or see live show or a movie in the theatre... so easy going.

As for the Titanic... if I had been there - I would have gotten on the iceberg.

>>^..^<<

Go For It! The cruise is the BEST vaca I have had in 20 yrs. If that doesn't convince you.........I can't help you because I always go on the BEST vacas! Do It! You won't regret it!
