I just ordered a Garmin nuvi 780 for DD15 for Christmas (she'll be 16 in early December.) When I bought Garmins for my DD21 and myself several years ago, they were in the 7-800 dollar range, and I noticed this one had the list price as $599.00 - I think - but it was discounted to $189.00.

My question is - have prices come down that much just because the technology is not as new? Is this model just being priced well to sell so the newer ones can take their place? I noticed all the Garmin nuvis I looked at were in the 100-200 dollar range.

I just wanted one with a decent size screen and the voice turn by turn with street name, so I feel like I got all the features I wanted. Are there others that you have had experience with that you think might be better?

I was just surprised it was so much less than I was expecting to pay!!!

That particular model is discontinued, that's why such a deep discount. You got a great deal, and that's a GREAT GPS! :cool1:

ETA: Make sure she learns how to use all of the features of this unit. It has an integrated FM transmitter, Bluetooth. And a whole bunch of other fun things! :`)

Thanks! That's great news! Also, I saved $100 off because it had a special promotion if you signed up for an audible.com Gold membership - which is exactly what I was going to order for my older daughter for Christmas!! So it ended up being $89 - sweet!

We'll have to have some GPS lessons - in the driveway. She will have been driving for all of ten days when Christmas comes, so we won't be practicing any of those cool new features on the road!!

Plus see above - I saved another hundred bucks - that was the best surprise of all!!:rotfl:

DD21's GPS is named Heidi and mine is Clara - we'll have to find another Heidi-related name for DD15.

Hmm...I do believe I may have to get myself one. I really want a GPS since I've been known to get lost in my own backyard (in reality, I mostly want it for vacation so we don't end up lost in the cornfield on the way back home an hour from the house again thanks to the police detouring us at around midnight! Hard to find out where you are at on a map when the streets DON'T have signs telling you the road names! :lmao:).

My parents got one and they are being stingy on it ;) They only let me use it if they come along. I'm amazed they got one before the rest of us, it usually goes the other way around -- we get a new gadget, have it for a while & then they end up liking it so get one. They don't even have a computer.
