Going on the Fantasy for our first
Disney Cruise in April!!! I have a 11-11:15 port arrival time. Should I arrive earlier then that?? Did you do any of the ticketed events such as Character Breakfast or Frozen meet and greet?? Were they tough to get?
I just got off the Fantasy 3 weeks ago. The port arrival time is just a guideline, but in your case I wouldn't show up at 9am or anything. Anywhere after 10:30 should be fine. Arriving early just gives you more breathing time to check in and take a seat and makes the crowds more manageable at the port. Also there will usually be a character or 2 that you can get a picture with in the terminal. We found the security to be quite fast so no issues there. I think the earlier you are the less crowded the terminal is. They don't actually start boarding the ship until about 11:30 or so. I like to arrive early. I think if you arrive and check in earlier you get an earlier boarding number so you get on the ship early. It's nice when the ship is empty and you can explore. Note that staterooms won't be ready until 1:30pm so you will have to carry your alcohol, and any carry-on items around with you for a while in case you do board early.
The first thing you should do on board is go to Port Adventures and get your ticketed events. The only tickets for meet n greets is the princess gathering and Anna and Elsa. They will give you the first available time but you should let them know if you want a specific date or time. They're usually done on a sea day I believe. Also if you want to sign up for the Disney Jr. breakfast then this is where you'd do that too, but we did not participate in that. The tickets were not tough to get, but there may be a small line at Port Adventures that you'll have to wait on. Other character meet n greets won't have tickets (unless you are on a Star Wars Day at Sea Sailing) but they will have times listed on the navigator on where and when they are appearing throughout the cruise. Go early to not wait on line, obviously.
You can read about our embarkation process for the Fantasy
here. Our port arrival time was 10:45-11:15. We got there at 10:30am, checked in and received boarding group 4. In contrast, last year on the Magic, we were assigned port arrival time of 12:30-1pm, arrived at 12:30 and got boarding group 16. They had already called our boarding group when we checked in so we didn't have time to get any character pictures at the terminal. The terminal was also much more crowded at the later time.
Also most people would want to have lunch at this time. Cabanas, the buffet, is open and is usually the most crowded but there's a lot of space. Also some other dining rooms may be open for lunch too. Lost of areas, like the Oceaneer club will be open house so anyone can go in to take a look. I loved this time as we could see areas that we won't normally be able to go to (we were 3 adults in our party).
Have a great cruise!
Is pirate night during an at sea or in port day? I thought I read a review which stated it was same night as in Cozumel on a trip.
I think it's usually a port day. For example the Westerns, it's usually Day 5, after Falmouth Jamaica, but if it's a Star Wars Cruise then they moved it to Day 3, after Cozumel. If you're on a Star Wars cruise, then they kinda dumb down the Pirate theme on that night (although guests still dressed up), and the focus is on Star Wars Day at Sea events on Day 5. However, if you were not on a Star Wars cruise, then Pirate night has all the fanfare and bells and whistles you'd expect
