Just off med cruise Barcelona. Any questions?

Our Eze/Monaco excursion had an 8:30 time and we got back at almost 7pm. This was due to horrible traffic around Cannes. We went to Cabanas that night.
Our Rome excursion had a 7:15 time and we got back at 6pm. Made it to early dinner no problem. Server told us as long as we were there by 6:45 he could still serve us, after 6:45 no go.
I thought the Rome day would be the worst but we were actually much more hot and tired with Cannes/Eze.
We had first seating and the latest we got back to the ship was around 6:30 and had time to take quick showers and showed up do the MDR just before 7pm; since our server told us that as long as we were back by 7pm that we would be able to eat in the MDR.

you flew all the way to europe for a 5 day cruise?
we were thinking about this cruise for next summer, since it's the only med cruise being offered in july next year (all the other med cruises are in may and june)...
but instead we booked the 7 day barcelona to dover cruise....

i'd rather do the med than the barcelona to dover, but 5 days seems too short..

We did the same cruise and tacked on a couple days in Barcelona post cruise. This was the third time in Europe this summer for us and honestly 5 days was just right.

Could you share the name/website of the private driver you used, and the cost (for Rome)? Thanks!

In Rome we used romeinlimo after reading up on tour companies on the boards and our driver was fantastic! I had never done private tours before this trip and we did one in Livirno to Cinq Terre and in Rome. Cinque Terre was ...meh...but really enjoyed having a driver in Rome. I believe it was around 500 Euro.

Thanks so much, Tink.

We are actually booked on a cruise that will stop in La Spezia, which seems geared toward a day in Cinque Terre. What made it "meh" for you?

I think a lot of it had to do with what my expectations were...we were dropped off at #2 (our driver referred to them by number) and was given instructions on taking the ferry to #4. Both little towns were just heaving with tourists and it was hot. My favorite part was just riding the ferry so DH and I took the ferry from #4 to #5 and back, then hiked up the hill and met our driver. By that time we were hot, sweaty and tired of tourists and drove back. Our driver offered to drive us to #1 or #3 so we could see that town as well but we didn't feel the need. I think I'd read too many books about charming seaside towns and while picturesque, they just seemed overrun with tourists and shops catering to tourists versus a quaint experience. Again, that could just be me...We used Shore Excursions in Italy-our driver was Marco and we had a nice Mercedes sedan. The cost was 590 Euro (pricey!). If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask. I'm glad we used private companies for both of our shore excursions despite the price because we were back to the ship way before embarkation time.

Thank you sincerely for the recommendation! It even has a washer and dryer!!
Yes! It's actually a combined unit. Very cool. It took me a couple loads to really understand the dryer cycle, but it was so convenient! There's also a grocery store diagonal, a dog park across the street, a remarkable pastry bakery a block away, and a really excellent tapas restaurant just a couple blocks out.

I'm currently writing my TR and there are quite a few photos of the condo and the area if you'd like to take a look.

ETA - we also used Rome In Limo for our day tour in Rome. Enrico was amazing. I can't imagine how we could have had a better day.

I'm definitely considering Rome in Limo. My kids will want to see the Colosseum and possibly a little more around Rome, but I don't think they will enjoy the Vatican at all.... it does sound like it would be nice to have a private vehicle rather than the bus or the train.

OP, I would have thought 5 days was too short for flying to Europe but I love the sound of your trip! What a variety of places and experiences you had in not a long period of time. Kudos to your for planning this interesting trip and thanks for reporting back.

Not everyone is able to take a ton of vacation time. (And they said they spent time on both ends). I’ve never had a job where I can feasibly take off more than 5 work day’s in a row, we aren’t all lucky enough to have that option.

I'm wondering debarking today had trouble getting to the airport.

i don't know if the magic is still going out of barcelona, but DD is on Royal's symphony of the seas, which is in barcelona today..
Royal had a free shuttle into the city from the ship because of the taxi strike..

i know one family that was boarding today...they had to shlep all their luggage and carry ons from their hotel by subway to the place where the royal shuttle was picking up....not a pleasant way to start a cruise..

i'm guessing today has been difficult for everyone boarding and disembarking in barcelona...

DD was very happy that they boarded in Rome (it's an interporting cruise)..

The Magic is in Dover today in route to their Northern European itineraries. Feel bad for anybody needing transportation in Barcelona. Cabs were certainly the way to go.

Lol I forgot it's almost August. The Summer has just flown by. Won't be long now to were under 100 degrees.

I don't know where you're at, but I'd just be happy to be below 110 degrees! :-) It will be October before we see sub 100 degree temperatures. :sunny:o_O

Thanks
One year planning and it was a whirlwind but so fun. I was fortunate to have remote work days on both travel days to Europe and back as long as I had full access to email. So I only had to take five days off.
