Hi Leila - I'm a newbie too!
I came to this board because we're planning on going back to Disney in Jan. I set a goal to take part in Marathon weekend, and I'm here for support with that because DH thinks I'm crazy for wanting to do it.
I started running last summer/fall, when I hit 30. I have found that as I get older, the weight is harder to take off. (I never thought I'd say that, because when I was younger, I could take it off in a *snap*).
So, I've been running every day, but I'm cutting back to every other day and cross training in between. When I was on a workout kick a couple of years ago, I woke up 40 mins earlier than normal to fit my workout in. After the first week, I didn't really miss the few mins of extra sleep, and I found that it started my day off better. I was in a better mood, more energized throughout the day. Within a month, I had lost over 5 lbs, and I was getting toned. - this is something I am trying to start again. Right now, I'm working out in the evenings when I get home from work. I'm finding a lot of evenings when I can't find the time because of schedules, meetings, etc. So, I think I'm going ot have to start back up with the mornings.
One thing I found is the couch to 5k. It's a really fun program. I luckily have a treadmill, so I'm able to do it indoors during the colder months. I really like the format that I found on runningintoshape.com. I like her playlists (sometimes, at the end of a run, her choice of song is just the push of encouragement I need to finish strong!) and her kind, reassuring voice when she coaxes you to "do your last run!" She's so dang cheerful! Best part - the downloads are all free!
I hope you try to stick with it. I'm right there with ya! I'm trying to drop from an 8/10 back down to a 4/6. Let's do it together!
