Plan- Knott’s Berry Farm, Downtown Disney

This was our sleep in day, but it didn’t matter. We were still up early. We tried to drag out the getting ready process, but we still arrived at Knott’s Berry Farm at 9:15. We did some browsing in the shops to try to pass some time.

When the park finally opened at 10 we rode all the rides in Camp Snoopy. This took until 12. There are quite a few kids rides at Knott’s Berry Farm. At 12 we watched the Wild West Stunt Show. It was entertaining, but not something I would care if I missed. We then rode the Stagecoach.

We took the long way around the park to orient ourselves and checked out all the rides. I’m a huge coaster lover so this is a park I would love to come to with my older kids. We checked out all the “big” rides on our way to the Dragon Swing. All of the stabilizers for the coasters lie throughout the park so the coasters are soaring over your head.

We rode the Dragon Swing and then went to the Log Flume. By this time it was the middle of the afternoon so the wait was 20 minutes. I put the handy dandy poncho on Kylie again. She didn’t like the drops, but they weren’t as big as Splash Mountain so she managed. We then went to the mine ride which was another 20 minute wait. I’m really beginning to miss FP. We went over to the Bumper Cars and had another 20 minute wait. This bumper car ride was the slowest bumper car ride I’ve ever been on. It wasn’t even fun. We were barely moving so when we bumped into another car it was nothing.

Kylie was hungry by now so we waited in line for 5 minutes only to be told that they had no chicken available at that time. That was the only thing Kylie wanted so we ended up leaving the park and went to Mrs. Knott’s takeout. We got behind a guy who weighed about 400 pounds that had to ask about 20 questions about something before he would order it. He was only feeding his family of 3 and his order came to $80. We ate it at a table outside and it was so disappointing. It had no flavor at all. I felt like I was eating cardboard. And the gravy on the potatoes was weird.

We went back into the park and rode the train. It was crowded and I was really annoyed at having to wait in lines. We did a little bit of shopping and bought fudge. Then we went and watched the Mystery Lodge show. It was a little strange. I felt like I was in the twilight zone. If you like deep thinking shows, you might like it. I guess I’m small minded because I just want to be entertained when I go to a show. I don’t want to try to figure out what the crap it’s all supposed to mean. It had a lot of Indian culture in it so those that like that might like it. Actually, people applauded and gave it a standing ovation when it was over, so maybe I’m in the minority here. All I know is when it ended, thank goodness, I couldn’t get out of there fast enough.

The only reason we had gone to Knott’s is because it is on the city pass. It does have a lot of kiddie rides, but it is mostly a park for thrill ride enthusiasts, which is what I am. But, since I had my little cutie with me, the park didn’t have much draw for me. We ended up leaving at about 3:30.

We went back to the hotel to freshen up a little before heading to Downtown Disney. Before we did our souvenir shopping, we stopped at the entrance to California Adventure and I took a picture of Kylie posing inside each of the big letters that spell “California”.

We bought souvenirs for us and tshirts or sweatshirts for everyone at home. It was very crowded in Downtown Disney and though we had ESPN Zone vouchers I didn’t feel like hanging out in the crowd. We went back to the hotel. My husband called and apparently being both mom and dad was starting to wear on him. The kids were quite subdued and I think he’d been pretty tough on them. I really had a hard time feeling sympathy as he travels for his work a lot and I have the kids by myself for days on end many times throughout the year. Our kids are not difficult either. He was just stressed and frustrated because he’d had some important business things that day and it was hard to take care of them at the same time as worrying about the kids at home.

So the end of another fun day. We were in bed by 11.

Highlights: Unfortunately, there weren’t many on this day

Downers: Long lines, the food at Mrs. Knott’s, Ornery husband

Thanks for your reports you are giving us lots of top tips for our ever approaching trip, just over 2 months to go now

I'm so glad you're still posting about your trip !! DNeph and I are so excited about our trip - we're doing so many of the things you and your daughter did!

Here's what I do when trying to drive and navigate in a strange state or city with only a child in the car - I use the square post-it notes and go through the map and write what route # (or whatever) will be coming up next. Then as I reach it I pull that sticky note off (I stick them to my dashboard) and I can see the next important roadmark or route # that I need to know. I can write the notes in large letters so I can see them (yes, I'm getting old! ) - don't have to try and read a map while I'm also trying to drive or keep pulling off the side of the road to check. :sail:
