We just made the hard decision to cancel our Jan trip. Can you cancel on the website or do you have to call. Will the points automatically go to the right spots. I have banked points from last year points that I will be able to bank since they were from this UY. Our check in date was Jan 30 so if I figure right I have till dec 29 so my points don’t go into holding is that right. I wish in this situation we’d have more choices since in these times you can’t plan on anything.

Yes you can cancel online and you are correct that with a Jan 30 check in you have until Dec 29th to cancel and the points will not go into holding. If you used both banked and current points in your reservation they will be returned as banked and current points.

We're considering cancelling our MLK long weekend trip as well. Any chances DVC will allow points from cancelled reservations within 30 days to not go into holding due to the new variant? Seems pretty unlikely, but figure there's a slight possibility given the sudden cancellation of many indoor and outdoor events across the country.

Very doubtful at this point.

I was hoping they would let us bank where ever the points came from just so you wouldn’t lose them. We used banked and current UY and have until the end of July to use them. Oh well I felt so good last good last year when I banked them so we wouldn’t need to borrow and now those points will expire oh well

During the entire time there's been very little allowance for banked points. Initially owners who had UY's that ended or were close to ending during the shut down were given a few extra months for their banked points. And Internationals who were prevented from traveling here were given some extensions but that's it. You could still rent them.

I had 95 points that were going to expire at the end of Jan 22. So I made 3 reservations out of them with what was available (2 for 2 nights and 1 for 3 nights). AKL and SSR. Sent them to a popular website for renting points and was able to easily get 14.50 per point! Paid for 2 years of MF.

Wow! your member fees are 688.75 a year of less!!! That's amazing!

Aw, that's such a shame you had the cancel, but I completely understand why, I would have done the same thing. :snooty:

yea it sure wasnt an easy thing to do--I thought for sure by now things would be looking up but guess not--anyways this renting of points sounds interesting
could someone please tell me how it works--is it something you have to do on your own or is there someone who for a fee takes care of things--
thanks and happy holidays

also someone suggested I call to see about an extension for banking the wait was long so I just did a chat and they said no
but thanks for the idea

So sorry you’re needing to cancel. Yes, on both counts- you can rent them out yourself (here on the disboards, for instance); OR you can rent them through an agency which usually takes several $ per point as their fee for taking care of the work for you. Best of luck to you!

Where would I find a place that would rent out the points. I’m sure if I could handle that on my own. Thanks for the help

There are multiple dvc rental agencies. You can do a search for them and I am sure you can find them. They will keep a % for finding a renter and handling the money. Confirmed reservations tend to be in high demand, so hopefully you can rent your reservation out.

This post gets me excited about some additional availability opening up in late January! Anyone else canceling? Give me a heads up so I can be on the lookout 😍
