Just joined yesterday - now I'm not sure

The sales guy called and he was umm less friendly, not rude but just said "well you know prices are only going to keep going up but it's your money anyway, I don't want to beat you up over your decision but I just wanted to follow up.. bye" Oh well. I do think if I buy in the future it might be a re-sale or with a different sales person.

Once you speak with a Disney Guide (sales person), I think, they're yours for life.

I got a couple of follow up calls today in response to my faxed cancellation. The first was a woman, she may have been the person who came in and talked to me after the sales guy. She was very nice and really understood. She could tell, I really love Disney and want to come back often. DVC has so many choices of where to buy/stay either direct or by resale, I wouldn't worry about the price going up.

We bought OKW in 1995 when the kids were 9, 6, 6, and 3 and later added on at OKW and bought at BWV. With the kids now 24, 21, 21, and 18 the ability to go as a family wasn't happening as often and for as long and it wasn't the same going without them. We also found that while it's an admirable goal to let your kids take their kids, they could be into their 30's before that time comes and that's a lot of years of dues to pay while you wait. Selling the 700 points across three contracts at two resorts will pay two years of college tuitions for them which is a better use for the money now. As you look into DVC further, you'll be able to decide if it is the best money use for you now and for the next 5-10 years.

I will agree with one prior poster that DVC is a real nice way to visit. I always say that I wished I lived as well at home. I also still remember fondly our first Disney trip to Port Orleans (French Quarter) in 1995 that led to our DVC purchase. It's the place that creates the memories and whether it's DVC or a regular resort, the memories will always be fond ones.

As others have said, if you cancel within 10 days you get your full deposit back without question. There is no controversy or doubt -- it's Florida law. And you don't owe the timeshare salesperson any apologies!

If you have even the slightest doubt at this point, I would cancel.

Then, take you time and thoroughly research DVC and determine if and how it would really work for your family. Yes, DVC is a great program for people who visit WDW every year, but the real question is whether or not it's the best place to put $12,000 of your money, plus the interest.

If you decide to purchase DVC, you owe it to yourself to consider resale, because there are considerable savings there.

With your visitation pattern, you might be fine with a very small contract and banking and borrowing to go once every three years. If you want BLT specifically, I see several 50-point BLT contracts for sale at the Timeshare Store for about $5000. Don't forget the listing prices are asking prices, and you can negotiate from there. If you're not determined to buy BLT, there are many other options in the resale market that will save you even more money.

There is also the option of renting reservations from DVC owners. If you are going to WDW every other year or less frequently, that may be your best choice.

Lots of things to consider -- cancel and do your research carefully.

If your hesitant now it probably is not the right time for you to buy in. Save and pay cash for a small resale down the road and add over time. :teacher:

Back in 98 we had a chance to buy into dvc. would have paid for it outrite without having to finance. DH had gotten a large bonus from work after some very long hours for a couple of years. We decided at the time to stay at the poly, no expensis spared instead of OKW. Then a couple of years later my sister who had recently bought dvc had some exta points. So she decided to give them to us for a vacation. Well we were hooked. fast forward to 2009. DH got a sizable profit sharing check from his company. Add that to tax returns and what we saved and we were ready to take the plunge again. Days before we were ready to make that call, we both wanted to be in the same place at the same time an DH had a bunch of mandatory meetings at work. DS calls. It was spring break and he was on his way home from visiting a friend in MA, we live in southern NH. His car died on the mass pike. DS commutes to school. He pays for college we pay for his car. So there went most of our money. 2 weeks later both the washer and dryer went. We knew it was eventually just time. Then the big TV in the den dies. DH likes to watch movies on the weekend. Never does anything small. So big screen plasma, digital HD and a blue ray. A month later the dishwasher dies beyond repair. Well maybe next year if all goes right. My point is when the timel is right if you really like it take mom up on her offer. As for the negativity how much do you want to bet that those posts are from people who have never stayed at a dvc. They don't own their. In fact they probably have another timeshare they are now regretting. Most dvc owners I have found have very few regrets about their purchase other then not buying sooner or not enough points. Sorry about the length of this post.

Well, I am on the fence.

I love my DVC. Would I buy now, at retail, from Disney??? No. IMHO the price is very high for what they offer. Just doing the math it's harder for me to justify the "pricing". Now I can stay off property and be happy! I can stay at the Swan/Dolphin and have a great time (great location, great bed, what more do I need :) )

If I was recommending DVC to anyone right now I would push the OKW/SSR resales that are selling at great rates, but I am also willing to stay anyplace. I don't have to have (or probably even want) a MK view at BLT :) So I am happy staying at OKW/SSR. (Actually often happier then at others. I like the "relaxing" feel you get)

I have been a member since 1997. We are Disney fans, of course, but have absolutely no regrets. It is in fact one of the best things I have every done. We now own 800 points divided between Old Key West and Sarasota Springs.
If you are a Disney fan I would advise you to enjoy your purchase. 100 points will keep your dues low and provide you with a lifetime of Disney fun. You are also locking any Disney Magic at today's prices which some people do not even realize.
