:cool1: Hi all - my dh and I just joined DVC with 200 points - very excited!

Wanted to find out if any of you have any advice as to how to best make use of this new found membership. Do you normally get annual passes? How about the dining experience?

How do you get the best "bang for your buck?"

Congratulations & welcome home!

Texas is far enough away that you won't be able to visit very often. The best room rates for any season are for Sunday through Thursday nights. Weekends tend to be expen$ive points wise. If you are able to visit twice a year and plan on spending more than 8 days in the parks, then the DVC discounted annual pass is the way to go.

We are doing APs every other year ( late June ,fall/winter spring ,Early June) this will give us 3 or 4 trips a year 4 or 5 trips per AP.

Then on our off year it will be a small fall/winter trip to do US/IOA .

We also book cash at the Mods for a quick extended weekend trip.

With the AP we also have the DDE that gives you 20% off most TSs and a few CSs . It also includes adult drinks as well.

Thanks that is very helpful - I see that OKW is cheaper points - how comparable are the rooms to SS?

Has anyone used points for a cruise? Is it worth it?

Congratulations & Welcome!!

HAPPY "MAGICAL" VACATIONIONG,

Congrats and welcome home.

Like someone else posted, try to use weekdays rather the weekends to stretch your points.

I bought and used the Disney Dining Plan for the first time on my last trip. I know a lot of people hate it, but I loved it. Even without being able to use all the snacks, we more than got our money's worth over a 5-day trip. I think we amortized its cost by the end of day 3. It's worth looking into.

Biggest lesson I learned: Since you now own a home at WDW, you don't need to do everything on every trip. The luxury of knowing you'll be back takes a lot of stress out of the experience. Too tired to do Illuminations this trip? So what? You'll be back.

Where in TX are you from? I'm from San Antonio.

Since you're in Texas, one of the other ways to save $ is to fly SWA! They offer affordable Ding fares from so many Texas cities. And as others have noted, if you can, schedule travel during non-peak times, both for the fares and to maximize your points. :thumbsup2
:welcome: HOME!
