To avoid confusion, this post is not about rumors of any sort but an invitation to use your imaginations and step into a future where Disney takes its resort hotels to the next level.

When The Living Seas (known today as the Seas with Nemo and Friends) along with its conjoining seafood resturant opened in 1986 at Epcot, it offered guests a unique experience of seeing live marine life up close. Imagine now if Disney built its first underwater hotel giving guests the same experience plus hotel glamour. Here's a concept for this kind of project: all the hotel rooms are divided into different sections and either surround or be placed in the center of several salt water tanks with its own live marine life and each of the rooms provide its hotel guest(s) a view of the tank it is located at. Each of the tanks would have its own theme. One tank would have a coral reef environment and have sea creatures that are common in the habitat while other tanks would include environments and animals like artic, deepwater, freshwater, ect. For a more magical Disney approach, each of the tanks would be themed to Disney movies that take place in the ocean such as The Little Mermaid, Finding Nemo, and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea to name a few. Imagine how amazing it would be if Disney had an underwater hotel in the future.

It would take a grand vision and the capability and exertise, with the drive to create something like that.

Sadly, Disney hasn't had that kind of vision in decades (unless someone else is paying for it)

Actually from a purely practical point of view I can't say I like the idea... it would look great but getting to anywhere else from your resort would likely be a pain. And considering how many problems they had recently with even the aquarium at Seas With Nemo I can imagine it would have sections down quite often as well.

So I see the vision and it's beautiful and I'd definately go check it out to see it but I can't imagine wanting to stay there.

Doing something like Atlantis in the Bahamas would be a very expensive concept, where they have the Dig, reefs, dolphin experience, waterpark on site with lazy rivers, restaurant with aquarium, and what not.

Nice imaginative fantasy idea, but not very realistic, even for Disney. Salt water environments are VERY expensive to maintain. They have constant problems with the tanks at the Living Seas. Cost prohibitive to run a hotel this way...unless they could charge $1000 a night for rooms. Better to bring the people to the ocean than the ocean to the people.

Kind of a cool concept...I would never stay in it though.

Jaws 3, anyone? :rotfl: (somehow that shark would find his way there...in the middle of Florida...somehow). I wouldn't be able to sleep.

I would totally sleep there. What a cool thing to add to a bucket list-- to sleep with the fishes AND still be alive to do it :rotfl2:
Seriously- a really cool idea and if they built it, I would come :)

As implausible as it may seem, if it ever did happen I would be one of the first people there! :)

Atlantis in Dubai has a version of this idea:

Plus several other variations on the theme elsewhere.
