We're sailing to Alaska the 3rd week in June. What is the normal temperature for this time of year ? I don't want to bring too many jackets and sweat shirts when we only need shorts and t-shirts.

Any advice would be helpful from experienced Alaskan cruisers.

Thanks,

Clarence

We sailed on an Alaska cruise several years ago in July and the weather was cold and rainy. Locals said it was one of the coldest summers they had in many many years. Just our luck! Just like weather anywhere it can vary from the normal. One thing I would recommend, bring a warm jacket because when you are around the glaciers it is COLD! I had on my lightweight jacket and a deck blanket wrapped around my legs. Plus wearing gloves and an earband. I have a very funny photo of me sitting on our balcony bundled with a beautiful glacier behind me. Great memories!

Bring clothing you can "layer" and you should be fine no matter the weather.

Another quick idea - if you go to DISNEYSTORE.COM and click the sale tab - you can find Alaska Cruise shirts on clearance! Way cheaper than buying one onboard and you could even wear it while boarding!

I recommend packing for layers from what I have read. I don't think it gets that warm in June. We are planning on Jeans and tees and packing fleece, rain coats, waterproof shoes, hats and gloves too!

I have cruised the 4th of July week and the last week of July into early August. Both had nice sunny days and cooler gray days. I had a boiled wool sweater jacket with a hood that was great as an outer layer with a t-neck and fleece vest underneath. Jeans every day-I know I brought a pair of shorts but never wore them outside. I had gloves and a scarf. I remember buying my teenage daughter a sweatshirt and a sweater as she didn't pack well and I know she wore my wool sweater jacket one day. Sitting in the sun was warm if the area was protected but the ocean breeze is cool. We sailed RCCL and I was glad for their solarium with the pool. It had a retractable roof and they never retracted it so it was always nice and cozy for a swim or to sit in the sun with the glass roof over your head. I did wear my shorts up there as we would sit and have coffee, fruit and croissants every morning. I think I was spoiled on that trip-I love to use the pool and think it would be too cool to swim/sun on DCL. I'll keep booking warm weather trips on Disney but give me a covered inside pool when doing Alaska.

Went on two RCI one mid July and the other late June. The one mid July was cold and rainy. Yuck. The other one was nice warm weather in Juneau like 70's. We wore mostly jeans. Going to Alaska in 2013

We were on the 7/26/11 Alaska cruise and never wore shorts & t-shirts onboard. We went from turtlenecks to many layers including those, sweatshirts and winter jackets with hats & gloves. While on deck whale watching I also had a fleece blanket wrapped around my shoulders [provided in bins on deck 4].

We were on last year's Alaskan cruise the 2nd week of June and wore jeans, long sleeve shirts and jackets almost the entire time. We didn't need shorts and short sleeve shirts any time except for when were in Vancouver.

Ten seconds with Google and you can find daily average temperatures for any US city. For my cruise, except for the colder Tracy Arm, in cities I can expect an average low just under 50 and an average high in the low 60s. For me, that is "right now" weather.

I suggest looking up historic averages for the dates of your cruse, determining what you normally wear in those temperatures, and preparing for rain.

Excellent packing list. I've been to Alaska 3 times. Late May, mid-August and late August.

Our best weather was late May, no rain at all. But for seeing wildlife, August was much better. There are no salmon running yet in May, for example.

Take layers and be ready for anything. Anyone taking only shorts and tshirts will be in for a lot of last minute shopping when they get to Alaska.
