I just got home from having emergency gall bladder surgery. We leave in 17 days and I have soooo much to do! I am feeling totally overwhelmed and bummed that I will be very limited in what I can ride at the parks. We have been planning this vacation for quite awhile. My family says that it is okay to reschedule but I really don't want to do that to them. I am pretty tough and think I will be okay. I was really looking forward to going but now...I just don't.:confused3

Aww....That stinks! I hope you have a speedy recovery and a great trip whether or not you have to rearrange! :grouphug:

Ack! That stinks!

Maybe you could delegate EVERYTHING to your family this week while you totally rest, and then see how you feel. What kind of cancellation policy to you have on your room?

ETA: We had to cancel our Spring Break trip at the last minute last year because of a medical situation. We went to the Outer Banks for a few days at the end of the week and had a blast. We went to Disney THIS Spring Break (just got back last night) and had a wonderful time. It was a disappointment last year, but everyone survived!

I like the delegation idea!! We also have to finish homeschooling before we leave. My family does not know that the doctor told me no "violent" rides and no water slides. I think if they did they would insist that we cancel. I am going to wait until after my post op appointment on Thursday to decide. I actually think just going to WDW will be great medicine and I will get to see my family enjoying the parks/rides. Thanks for all of your kind words and encouragement. This board is such a wonderful way to connect with other Disneyholics!

I had my Gall Bladder out 4 years ago and less than 3 weeks later had to travel to Colorado (from Virginia) for a creative competition that my oldest son was participating in (it was a World Finals thing, so we as a family went to cheer him on). We went up in the mountains, did lots of sight seeing, went to Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods, gold mining, and did the whole 4 day long competition thing....and I was ok.

The first week is not so great....but you'll be tapering off the pain meds by then. After the second week, you should be good.

You might need to take a short rest now and then, but I bet you'll be ok by your Disney trip. Besides, what better than Disney to heal you fast?

Have a great trip!

WHY do you have to finish school before you leave? Are you using some kind of timed program? Can't you just add a few days at the end of the year?

There's lots to do without doing the thrill rides, but they're a lot of fun, too. Have you been before? Will you be able to go again if you do go this time and take it easy?

This is a great idea. Good luck!

I hope you have a speedy recovery...if all else fails and you get exhausted you can always get a wheelchair.:goodvibes ..if it were me I would still go and just take it very easy!!!

Are you flying? Your doctor might not ok you to fly since yuor surgery was so recent. I would think rescheduling, as awful as the thought is, would be better. You would want to enjoy the trip too. Good luck!

Thanks for the encouragement. We've been to Colorado Springs. The Garden of the Gods is awesome!

We only have 10 days left. I don't want to prolong it. Part of the reason for the trip is to celebrate completion of the school year.

We have been to WDW before. So I can take it easy and enjoy just being there.

I think I will have a better perspective when I am not taking anymore pain meds!!!:sad1:

Thanks to everyone that blessed me with their encouragement!!

Sorry about the surgery. It was laproscopic, correct? At least they don't give you the 12" cut across your abdomen anymore. I had my gallbladder removed nearly 20 years ago just to avoid a large family vacation to the beach with everyone staying in the same beach house. ;)

Sorry about the surgery!! I was much better at the 2wk mark after my gallbladder surgery. If it were me I would still go but take it easy. And watch out for big meals! Best wishes and speedy recovery

I agree with everyone that say s to go and have fun! I had my gall blader out when dd was 2 months old, and within a week or 2 I was just fine! Up and taking care of the baby in just a couple os days. With it being laposcopic, the healing time is pretty quick. You should be feeling as good as new really soon! Good luck and have fun!

I think as long as you had it laparascopically, you should be fine! I have known a few people over the years who have had that surgery. One of them went on a shopping trip 2-3 days after being discharged. Looking back, she felt like she overdid it, but she did do fine. If you had a large incision, that would change my opinion. But I be you will be fine! Like other posters said, delegate what you can, so you can take things easy before the trip. And when you're at WDW, if you find yourself getting tired, you can rent a W/C or ECV!

I was just thinking about you; how are you feeling today?

Thank you for asking. I have been getting alot of well wishes and prayers. I have a post-op appointment tomorrow. I am feeling pretty good. I am hoping that all the swelling goes down or I will need a new wardrobe--cause we are GOING in 14 days!!!:woohoo: I feel that my family needs a vacation together much more than I need to go on all the rides. I so enjoy just being there that I think not being able to do the rides won't be much of a hardship.

Thank you for asking

Thank

Had my gallbladder out as well. My only advice is not to quit your meds too early, LOL. I was lucky to feel really well pretty quickly afterward. Keeping my fingers crossed for your speedy recovery! (If you go, try to save some meds for the trip just in case!)
