Just heard real bad rumor regarding WDW rates

Has anyone else heard talk of Disney raising rates across the board this year for rooms? I'm not sure about this. My source was pretty good, but sometimes rumors are nothing more than that. Said rooms could go up by 25% If that happens that will price lots and lots of families right out of Disney IMO. I just don't get it. The new MYW pricing is great, so is the dining option.... Anyone else heard of this??

I believe there was a slight rate increase between 2004 and 2005 rates this year. I don't believe it was much though maybe 5%.

Rates are already out for 2005, so I'd say it's false.

Given that the attendance numbers for last year were the best post-9/11 numbers they've had, I would think an increase in room rates for 2006 would not be completely unexpected. I think 25% would be rather steep, but I could see a 5% jump or a little higher.

I agree with all of you, but this person told me a specific date that if the rooms aren't paid for you would be hit with an increase. My guess is she is wrong b/c she is NOT a disney travel agent. I wonder if she is thinking about people who booked in 04 for 05 rooms?

The price of value resorts stayed the same from 04 to 05 in value season. Moderates went up $1 during value season from 04 to 05.

New rates for 06 come out around August so maybe that is what she is talking about. And I highly doubt it would be 25% that is just nuts. Going from 134/night for a moderate during value to 167.50??

I can't imagine Disney raising rates to that degree. We visit every year and as much as I love it, I'd choose a new place to vacation. Right now, I think they need to focus on keeping up with other hotels especially deluxe hotels. They are just adding refrigerators. They don't offer high quality soaps and paper products and the coffee is hardly worthy of a deluxe resort. Let's upgrade rather than increases prices.

Maybe 5%, but 25% is ridiculous, unless they are constantly going to be offering discounts!

I agree, a 5-10% increase might happen, they've been running pretty full lately and what with supply and demand. But 25%? Seems illogical. Maybe they mean that if you've booked a reduced rate/code room with a package and don't make the final payment in time, it jumps to rack rate?

Rates were published for 2005 in May (?), why would they change them now?

I wouldn't expect an increase for 2005 travel dates, but when then announce 2006 rates, there may be a slight increase, but 25% is insane.
