My mother is driving me nuts!!!! Last Oct I took my 2 dd's for a week...our first MNSSHP & we had a blast! DH is a WDW non-believer so we left him at home. ANyway....my mom has said "Gosh, honey I'd love to go back to Disney with you & the girls this October & Dad & I talked abotu it & I'll pay for the room, tickets & dining plan"...GREAT right? OK BUT she doesn't understand that I NEED to make the reservations NOW!!!!! I mean we're approaching the 180 day mark for my ADR's.....I've asked her about a zillion times..."Mom do you want me to just put it all on my credit card?" her reply "oh no honey we have 7 months I'll take care of it" GEESH!!!!! I mean I know I shouldn't complain...the woman is offering to basically pay for a week long trip for me & my daighters (ok but she'll have to go to...so we won't be going quite as fast as we typically do) but that's ok too. BUt can I JUST make the reservation already!!!!She keeps asking me if think the diningplan will be "free" again - Uh no, mom too many people are buying it and it's not free....I don't anticipate any real "deals" coming out so can we just bookit please

ugh...thanks for letting me vent.....

Just tell her that you should book it now and if any deals comes out they can then be applied to the reservation. Its not like you are locked in to that rate if a better deal comes around.

Vent away!!
I would go ahead and make some res. now, you only need a small deposit for the resort.
At least you would have some peace of mind princess:

You don't need a ressie to make ADRs. You could be staying offsite for all Disney knows. You've still got to eat! Make the ADRs when the 180 days up and don't worry about the room/package ressie for now.

As for the free dining plan, I think that you're right. We probably won't see it again. But we may see something similar to it (one free for each paid, free dining for kids with paid adult, etc.). You never know what kind of incentive Disney may come up with.

You are so lucky to have a relative willing to do that for you!! Can she throw some pixie dust on my relatives? My dad would pass out at a $6 hot dog. :teeth:

I think I would seriously tell her that most people make ressies as soon as they know when they are going and any discounts can be applied if they come up. Also, I would go ahead and make ADR's when the time came. You can always change those too. Maybe if you explain how many people go to WDW and the importance of planning maybe she will start making reservations.

Good Luck!

I would make the reservations, and pay for the deposit myself, then its in and secured. She 's graciously paying for everything, least you could do is pay one nights deposit. As for dining reservations, we never make them in advance, we know where we want to eat but plans change alot once there, and I hate to be locked in as to where I have to be on given days. We call the day before from our room and never had a problem getting in anywhere. I always call CRO, amke my room only reservation, I give no people count or names and put the deposit right on my Discover Card. I tell them added info will come before we leave or on check in. And never had a problem with that either.

Good luck with your planning. We recently finished our trip that I planned out months before and my aunt waited until 1 month out to buy her flights. :teeth:

I didn't know you could make your ADR's without havign yoru room ressie? We've always done it after? WOW now I feel better! I'm making all my adr's at my 180 mark!!!! & the only problem with making the deposit and room ressie is she can't decide where she wants to stay...the girls & I love POP and want to stay there...but she's afraid it's not "nice" enough for her. While I would never turn down a mod resort...we really do like the oversize "theming" of the values and for us what we're missing doesn't bother us. !

thanks for the ideas guys!

The only time you need to have your reservations when making your ADR's is when you are doing the 180+10 (you call on the 180 day mark of the first day and then can make all your ADR's up to 10 days then. That saves you from calling each day).

I completely understand your pain. While no one is paying for our trip, I have several family members all wanting to go. I have given them quotes for everything, told them that I would book it for them so they could get a discount, and that all they need to do right now is give me the deposit. Can any of them do that? NO! I told them that the longer they wait, the more likely it is that they won't be able to get the same resort as me (I told them that to scare them. Did it? Nope!) Finally I just told them that I need to know by May so I can make my ADR's and after that too bad, so sad. Yes, I know my trip is in 8 months, but I really like to plan ahead.

Good Luck!!

I know this may not necessarily be the point of your vent, but I just thought I'd share...

You don't need a reservation to make ADRs. If you had a reservation, you could call 180 days from your arrival day and make arrangements for the entire trip. Without them, you would just need to call 180 days from each day you want to dine.

A pain in the butt, I know, but still a viable option.

My trip last sept was very last minute. we planned it mid aug. I made my ADRs before we booked our room at POFQ... and this was WEEKS before we left. I had VERY little problems getting what I wanted that time of year:) Either way you should likely be fine!

I think until you have actually been there the size of WDW and how many people actually come every day would shock the average person. For instance, you are talking about going to MNSSHP, which is in October. A normal, noninducted Disney person would think that it wouldn't be crowded because the kids are in school - wrong. Just take pity on her, initiate them well and just go ahead and make ADR and room ressies if possible.
