Yesterday I borrowed three HUGE boxes of photographs from my mum and I have spent the last few hours scanning a selection that I particularly like and wanted a copy of. The memories have been unbelievable. It was my grandad's funeral yesterday so seeing the pictures of him has been strange, and also seeing the pictures of my dad's funeral from almost 14 years ago - very sad.

The one good thing that has come out of my grandad's death last week is that me and my mum are going to really make an effort to label and scrap the family history as we're losing people and now have almost no living connections to dad's side of the family. Am looking forward to it but it's gonna be very hard.

Hope everyone else is having a good weekend.

Our family just went through the same thing back in February and I know exactly what you are talking about. It is so amazing to look back at all those pictures and memories...filled with happy and sad tears. That is the main reason that I scrapbook, to leave a legacy for my children. At first my Husband thought it was crazy and "waste of time and money", but now he can look at them with complete understanding and admiration! So sorry for your loss of your Grandfather.

I'm sorry about the loss of your grandfather, but I am so happy for you that you have this connection with your mother. I was digging through my mother's stuff once and came across letters my father wrote to her when he was overseas in the Air Force. It made me feel so much closer to both of them. I think scrapbooking is so much more than decorating pages and sticking pictures in: glad you had a great night with your mother.

I am sorry about your grandfather's loss. I think we tend to develop a different relationship with grandparents when we become adults, so it is even harder to lose them. However, how wonderful that you found all the photos & your mum is still here to share memories with you.

Sorry about your loss. I understand what you are going thru. My father passed away a few months ago and my Mom and I have been going thru pictures and organizing them for a special tribute album. It's an emotional process but is also my therapy for dealing with and getting thru this difficult time. I want to make sure that my children (ages 5,3) NEVER forget their PawPaw and how much he loved them. :grouphug:
