Just got shocking Dollar deal for 5 nights in August: $109!

I decided today to just check around the rental car sites. I found a rate of $109 plus tax ($157.09 total) for a midsize car, Aug 14 (Sat) through 19.Other larger size cars were similar savings. I have many different combinations of coupons and specials, but have found in the past it sometimes is cheaper NOT using them . I did NOT use a coupon for this deal. I went ahead and reserved it.

Note that Dollar got the July 2010 spotlight for rude and pushy counter agents trying to get you to buy extra coverage and insurance.

Meanwhile Dollar's own rules don't require U.S. residents to buy any of the coverages so you can (and in most cases should) just say no and the agent still has to honor your reservation.

I'm not surprised.

Earlier this year I rented a car from Dollar in Myrtle Beach, I felt like I was being bullied by the salesperson, she actually crumpled up my reservation and flung it across the counter as she was super mad about me not getting the coverages and she kept quoting me higher rates. It was awful enough for me to write a letter about it. I know, I know, I shouldn't be renting from them again, but it's saving me about $150 from all other rates. I wouldn't rent in MB again, was hoping the Dollar in Orlando might be different. I didn't realize it's an across the board thing with these agents. And I NEVER get the optional coverages. This time I'll wear my armor and be prepared!

This might have been a good time to go to the pay phone at the back of the rental office and call Dollar corporate headquarters to file a complaint.
