We picked up our Rv today from the dealer where we store it and I noticed that we had had a mouse in it at some point over the winter. I looked around to see if there had been any damage but other than a few droppings there was no sign of anything being chewed. This is our second summer having our trailer so we haven't experienced this before. My question is what do you do to ward off mice when you store your TT for the winter? And, what do you do to clean it after you've stored it all winter?
Thanks in advance for sharing :)

Lock my wifes cat in there with just enough food to keep her alive so she eats the mice.... LOL

One thing to do to prevent them from getting in in the first place is to get some of the expandable foam in a can stuff and fill every hole in the trailer. If you crawl underneath you' be surprised at the number and size of openings available to let critters in.

I'm lazy, I let the snakes take care of it. However, we do have to spray on a regular basis for insects. I crawled under the RV and couldn't believe the amount of ways a critter could get in!

Don't dryer sheets keep the mice away? We are brand new to camping, but I know DH put a bunch of them all over the place in our tt before winterizing it.
If anything, it smells good!:rotfl:

I heard of that too, but my friend put a whole box around the inside of her trailer and she still got them, so bad in fact that they chewed the whole corner of her mattress. I guess I'll the suggestion about the foam and try to fill in any nooks and crannies :)

We use the dryer sheets EVERYWHERE. I put them in the vents, under the sofa cushions, all the drawers and cabinets, dinette..anywhere you look there are dryer sheets. We haven't opened our unit up yet, and we left it on site this year.(we're seasonal in a camping resort). We haven't had a problem yet, I hope this year is the same. Other people we know put moth balls under their trailer..which has worked also, but I gotta tell ya..it stinks!;) My husband also sealed the trailer underneath..although it was sealed pretty tight. We have a Jayco Eagle.

I didn't even think of the dryer sheets Idea.. see thats why I love this place!!

And if you use dryer sheets for the mice,,you'll always have dryer sheets on hand when you do laundry while camping !:rotfl2: ...Frank

I just have this mental picture of a couple of mice rolling around on a pile of dryer sheets, and one looks at the other and says "dang George, don't you just love how soft this makes our fur?"

Remember the old cartoon of the mice named Ralph and Alice and Norton ,,Thay were the cartoon mice version of the HoneyMooners ?

We fill disposable ziploc containers with mothballs (cut a slit in the lid) and put them around the camper-the bay area, too. Seems to work. We then, of course, give it a good airing out in the spring.

There was one couple we knew in the campground who lost their trailer to CHIPMONKS. I always thought those little guys were the cutest looking little things. :cutie: They ate the entire inside of the trailer. :scared1: The sofa cushions, the mattresses..wiring..you name it..they had a feast over winter. When I think Chipmonks..it's Chip and Dale..or Alvin, Theodore and Simon. Who knew they could do that kind of damage. Apparently they don't just sing and dance..and they don't Rescue anyone either. :rolleyes1

I haven't found any signs of mice in our RV yet, but its just a matter of time. We also have a cabin in the hill country and they just love that place. We haven't been much in several months and we just went for a couple of days. The mouse (I know its more than one, but I Prefer to think its just one) wasn't even afraid of us. It was checking us out through the mini blinds ( little head and paws). Of course, I made my husband go after it----it still wasn't afraid until he came after it with the broom. My fearless dogs(supposed to be ratters) and I were standing on top of the bed screaming. Anyway, we put out rat bait and hope the mouse eats it and dies. We haven't had any problems in about two years, but we're in a drought and we've been told that's why we're having a problem again. They can't eat through steel wool -- so thats another option for sealing up any holes. Remember, if they can get their tiny nose into it, they can squeeze their body into it. Good luck!

Thanks for all the suggestions :) I cleaned it out today and it wasn't as bad as I thought it may be. The only thing they ate was paper towels....go figure? One question I have is if we use mono to fill any holes around pipes etc..., will it affect the piping and getting to it if it needs to be fixed?
I would gladly have them if they were as cute as The Honeymousers, talking mice to keep me entertained... that would be sweeet!! To the moon Alice to the moon :) Heehee :)
