Hi,

Just got back today, like to thank everyone who helped in our planning.

Having been to Florida 12 times this was our first visit to Disneyland Paris.

Good bits:
The travelling was much easier for our autistic/non verbal son which meant he was happier and less tired during our 4 night/5 day stay.
Both he and Julie and I loved Hotel New York, great views over the lake, extremely pleasant and helpful staff, loved the New York Jazz theme, lobby and reception areas great too and most of all loved, loved the City Bar for an evening drink, even the disney store there was good. They even drove us to the train station on the way back as they could see Joshua was disabled and we had a fair bit of luggage!
Minor hotel negatives, they should have considered a zero depth entry into the pool, hot offerings at breakfast average but they were rendered not very important due to the positives.

The parks compare very favourably to the Orlando one's, are wonderfully themed and easy on the eye. Joshua really enjoyed himself, especially at the Disneyland Park. Liked the minor differences such as 2 drops on the Pirates ride though noticed others like Peter Pan not as well themed or as smooth.
However, overall the parks are fantastic and we loved them.

Cast members very friendly and helpful, bearing in mind Joshua was in a wheelchair, they understood his needs (he can actually walk but not long distances).

We rarely dine out but managed to on several occasions something we have never done in Florida, probably partly because Joshua's general happiness was evident through not having to endure the long flights.
Thought Toad Hall in particular was fab and loved the fish n chips, decent value for money too.

We bought some products from the Esso garage and made sandwiches as we went along.

The nearby Val d'europe and La Vallee Village we visited a couple of times and again enjoyed ourselves, very busy but well worth the visits. Joshua even sat outside at a Cafe whilst we had a drink, sounds nothing much but this is just something he would never normally do.

Joshua generally had a smashing time, very happy at the hotel and parks and that made the trip worthwhile.

Whilst the weather was unsettled to say the least in a way we found that made touring the parks easier, though we were never there during prolonged spells of rain, because it was cooler we stayed there longer which we have often struggled to do in the intense Florida heat.

Not so good bits:
Sorry if this appears too harsh a criticism, but really didn't like the Disney Village at all. The shops are not easy on the eye from the outside and the merchandise average on the inside.
The restaurants are expensive and the quality average.
Despite the fact it's located ideally, very close to our hotel, the train station and the parks I didn't rate the village, to be blunt I thought it was dreadful and totally lacking in imagination and character. Like I say apologies if this seems a bit over the top, we did really like the Earl Of Sandwich though, great hot food made to order with very high quality service, have to say also Joshua had hot dog and fries a couple of times also from New York Sandwiches.
Overall it needs a major upgrade though - in my opinion, hopefully the new World Of Disney store will add something.

On the subject of upgrades, some of the hotels really need some work when we walked over to Newport Bay I was genuinely shocked at the state of some areas of the building, wood needing replacing and a major paint job required.
There were pot holes everywhere and it looked like many of the plants had been neglected too, Sante Fe also looks like it needs repainting at the least.

I was also surprised at the number of people smoking, and throwing the remains onto the floor afterwards. Some were 'lighting up' as soon as they entered the park. :confused3

I did see cultural differences, I met many very friendly people, especially in hotels, shops and the CMs at the park, but did at times find the jostling, bumping into people all the time (literally) slightly off putting.

Taken all into account however it was a very enjoyable holiday, our son loved it and that generally makes it easier for us, the positives far outweighed the negatives and I am sure we will return, had a sneak peek around the Disneyland Hotel but would gladly return to Hotel New York , the ease of travelling on the Eurostar makes it a much less stressful and tiring journey for us.

Once again thanks for all the great help. :thumbsup2

Welcome home. So glad you had a good time. :goodvibes

I'm really pleased to hear that you all had such a great time :goodvibes.

Welcome back, glad you all had a lovely trip. Most of the hotels are undergoing an extensive rehab programme, it will take a while before it is al completed though:goodvibes

Definitely it's clear there is a major amount of work going on, I just think that if they keep the hotels in decent condition for all the guests year around it reduces the need for any major changes.

Pleased it went so well for you all, lots of your own very magical moments :goodvibes

I'm not a Village fan either, it was so much nicer done before when I first went in the mid 90's with it's starry "ceiling" and shops selling original things that you didn't find everywhere else in the park, don't know why they changed it so much :confused3

Glad it's not just me then. I think it's a shame because the location is perfect. As far as the prices go I don't mind paying extra for something special but I am not going to pay nearly 23 euros for fish and chips at Rainforest Cafe when I can get it for half the price at Toad Hall inside the park (loved it there by the way).

It has a feel of it more like Universal's city walk rather than Downtown Disney at WDW.
Sadly it's nowhere near as good as either none of the shops from the outside are attractive in anyway, we went in each of them once but that was enough.
You look at the likes of the Christmas store or the House Of Blues at DTD both extremely pleasant, attractive and unique from the outside yet at the village they are dull and dreary. I honestly think they need to have a good look at it.

So glad to hear the positives outweighed the negatives. We are leaving for our 1st time to DLP this Sunday (the 14th) and I am so nervous how our autistic son will act. He should be okay but I am hoping to get a GAC that will help alleviate some of the long lines. I hope the CM can accomedate us-it works so well at WDW and DL. Sorry to hear about the village-we love DTD at both WDW and DL-great atmosphere! I figure we will do the village as just a little shopping break and maybe get lunch (Earl of Sandwich sounds good). I think the weather is supposed to be nice when we are there so hopefully no rain.

They call it the EAC , easy access card, there are differences, they give you a coloured leaflet with information on and you will probably get a black Mickey stamp added to indicate the level of disability. Most rides you enter though a disabled entry point, which is often usually the exit too. There are some rides that on your sheet will be marked with an R, this means you need a reservation time from the CM at the entrance, they will give you a piece of paper you give to the CM at the ride.
The R rides at Disneyland park are Peter Pan, Buzz Lightyear, Pirates Of The Carribean and Big Thunder Mountain - the remaining one's just see the CM at the ride but most will be through the disabled way in.

For shopping we found the best stores to be the one's on Main Street within the park, the others at the village we thought were poor, they are building a new World Of Disney store but that isn't open till next year.

Thank you so much for the information-my son might have some meltdowns if we have to go and come back-I know there would not be a wait (a la fastpass) but I can foresee some problems-hopefully we can get on via the handicap entrance although he is able to physically get on all rides. Keeping my fingers crossed for a successful trip-I am thinking of taking a break during the day any way to go back and go swimming so as not to over stimulate him anyway. We will take advantage of the EMH as well.
Thanks again-Elizabeth

Joshua can get on the rides too so I can see similarities, I am sure you will be fine.
Definitely take a break during the day, it can be a bit much at a park all day.

Glad you had a good time. :goodvibes

As for the village, well... there is a reason I refuse to take pictures in that area. ;)
I'd say Citywalk at Universal is a lot more photogenic and actually worth walking through, in comparison to Disney Village. Though I know they've gutted and rebuilt a couple of the shops inside they were yet to do the tacky outsides.

Did you try Anette's? That's my favourite DLP restaurant.

No we didn't try Annette's may be next time.

I think if you haven't been to Florida and cannot compare to Downtown Disney or Citywalk then I suppose the village is 'ok', if like us though who have been many times it's clear the village is not up to scratch.
It's a real shame, for the location it should be good but it just isn't. Hopefully the new World Of Disney store will improve it a little.

Welcome back!

Glad you had such a good trip and that Joshua in particular had a magical time! :wizard:

We like Toad Hall too! :goodvibes
