I will probably regret this, :rotfl2: but I got bored waiting for my DVC ROFR to go through. I ended up on EBAY and got hooked on bidding on Disney Pins!
First I bid on some that I liked and wanted to KEEP, just for me.
But then I had to bid on some that I was willing to TRADE.
And I did.
Today I paid for everything...but now I am wondering how the heck the trading game works? I thought it might be fun to trade with cast members...especially if I travel next trip solo.

I was told that if the CM had pins on a black band that they were for adults to trade (green is strictly for the kids)

So how do you carry the pins you want to trade? On a hat? a lanyard? What?
Must they all be Disney pins? My d has a bunch of nonDisney Olymic pins and pins she got in Japan etc....what are the rules?

Thanks for your help!

They have to be Disney pins in order to trade at Walt Disney World. They also must be metal cloissone type pins.

Disney Pin Trading Etiquette
? Have Fun! Disney Pin Trading can be a great way to interact with and
meet Cast Members and other Guests.
? The main criteria to judge whether a pin is tradable or not is that it
must be a metal pin that represents a Disney Event, Location, Character
or Icon. Some pins from our Operating Participants are also tradable,
but must represent the Operating Participant in a way that has a
specific Disneyland® Resort or Walt Disney World® Resort
affiliation.
? Pins should in good, undamaged condition.
? Trade one pin at a time, hand to hand, with the backs attached.
? Guests may trade a maximum of two pins with each Cast Member.
? Guests may trade only one pin of the same style with a Cast Member.
? When trading with Cast Members, Guests should offer a pin that is
not already displayed on the Cast Member's lanyard.
? Please refrain from touching another person's pins or lanyard. If you
need a closer look, ask the person wearing the lanyard if they can bring
it into clearer view for you.
? Disney name pins may not be traded with Cast Members.
? Monies or gifts may not be exchanged or used in trade for a pin.
? In addition to the 12 pins on Cast lanyards, some Cast Members may
wear a "Showcase" pin. These "Showcase" pins are for demonstrations
to our Guests and are not available for trade.

You might want to check out the "Disney Collectors" board here on the DIS. Lots of pin collectors there who could help you out. I don't know all the official rules but I do think for trading with CM's it has to be a Disney pin.

My first thought when I saw your post was "oh no, you are in trouble!" Pin collecting is addicting and I've got hundreds (probably more, I'm afraid to add it up) of $$$ worth. Yikes! I finally had to try to stick mostly to one type of collection (Lady and Tramp pins of course).

Have fun :)

We started with lanyards, which the kids kept taking off to ride rides. Then I got a pin belly bag which I like a lot. In the end, however, we found the easiest thing was just to stick our traders in our pocket since the CMs will trade regardless. We never tried much to trade with other guests. I usually held all the new pins for the kids in a pocket in my purse and divided them up in the room every night.

I started off wearing the lanyard too but it became too hot and heavy to wear in the parks. This trip I'm just going to put my traders in a ziplock bag in my small backpack to carry around.

OOHHH!! thats a bad bug to be bitten with. Not really- actually its quite a lot of fun.

My DD, started last trip. I wish we had bought pins before we went. 25 pins, at $6.50+. UGGG.

She used a lanyard last trip, but as it moves around, it is easy for the backs to come off. We lost 1 or 2. Ths year I have already told her to budget for the locking backs.

We are getting bags for them this year, to keep their collection in. We won't be carrying it around the parks though.

If you purchase pins on E-bay- make sure they are not the Sedesma pins. If the price is too cheap, there is a reason. We have gotten lots of 25 pins, for around $73-75, with shipping.

Our problem is, that we always wanting to keep the ones, we get on E-bay.

I feel for you!! The same thing happened to me. I have now started trading on Pin Pics which is a lot of fun and is cheaper than EBAY. Although I still purchase on EBAY, (but I need to stop)! When I only had a few pins, (a year ago), I wore them on a lanyard. In Dec., we went to DL and I had purchased a pin bag which was too heavy to carry through the park. I also had purchased a fanny pack from a seller on EBAY who also sells them at DL. The fanny pack is what I plan to bring to WDW on our next visit. It is large enough to hold a lot and also has 4 double-sided pages for pins. My kids make fun of me because it is so huge, but it is much easier than carrying around a pin bag and a backpack.
