Hi all, spent the long weekend in Orlando. First time in the summer. It was very hot, 35 celsius. and humid. Did both Disney waterparks which were great. Lots of shade but sometimes you get caught out in the open while waiting and you roast! Flew out out Buffalo on Southwest, no waiting at security just walk right up. On return by the time you get to baggage return your bags are there. No delays at the Peace Bridge on the Holiday Monday.

Let me guess ... Morning was okay, too hot in the afternoon and thundershowers around 4pm for an hour or so, then a nice sunny evening.... :cool1:

Ted you are right on! We left the water parks around 2 PM each day as we found it crowded. By 4 there would be dark clouds and rain, around 7pm we would head to the resort pool for a nice evening!

The other approach is to head back to the resort for the afternoon during the worst of the heat. We use it as pool time to recharge the girls and then head back for dinner post afternoon storm.

You need to delay the trip a couple of weeks in the future. Parks are empty the last week of August. They really empty out further when the rain starts in the afternoon.

I hope you are right! :) We arrive on the 23rd and I'd love for the guys to enjoy all the waterslides at BB & TL without having to wait in long lines!

We got to the waterparks 1/2 hour before opening and had very little waiting until around 11 am that when we hit the lazy rivers and wave pools. Seemed like alot of people were arriving around 11. This was on Sat and Sunday.

For two weeks (with the exception of shopping days) here was our July pattern.

Early breakfast
9am at Parks
Noon .... "its getting hot here" :cool1:
1pm Resort to air conditioned room. Light Lunch. Kids have some videogame time, Dad has a beer on the deck, Mom (wine, shop, reads ...) popcorn:: :drinking1
2:30pm Pool :yay:
4:00pm "Look at them dark Clouds" :scared1:
4:15pm "Run!... it's raining!" :hyper:
5:00pm Eat
7:00pm back to the Pool (with Beer for Dad) :hyper:
9:00pm back to the room.

I tried to book August but gave it up to a young Mom at work who was coordinating her vacation with the only time her husband could get off. Paying it forward! I'm Back in December ... I will survive!

We have done August trips 4 out of the last 5 years. We head back on the 22nd for 6 nights at AoA. Sooo excited. Girls are counting down.

Hi Gina....we've been there the last 2 weeks of August almost every year since 2005. I think we changed dates only 2 times. All the local kids are back in school then as well as several of the nearby states. So the crowds are pretty low.

Sadly I wouldn't count on this. We were at TL the last week of August last year and the lines were 45 mins long by 11am and never got any shorter. :( Hope your experience is better!

Hoping this holds true again in 2013! Fingers crossed :) .

We are planning on being there for park opening, so hopefully the guys will get some sliding in before we are relegated to the wave pools and lazy rivers for the busier afternoons. We have never been to either waterpark so we're curious to see how they hold up to Aquatica (a family favourite).

grantclaire, did you happen to visit DTD? If so, how bad was the parking with such a large section now closed off?

I am trying to decide whether to keep our Planet Hollywood reservation, or cancel it and try Bubbalous Bodacious Barbecue instead. So many high calorie decisions hang in the balance :scratchin .

Would love to hear more feedback about your waterpark visits as well. Which one was your favourite and why?

We've been to both places......

PH is VERY loud and the tables are so close together that you could eat from your neighbours plate.

Bubba's is a must do!!!!!!!!! It's a total hole in the wall type place but the food is fantastic. We were just talking about it a couple of days ago trying to decide if we will go on our first night.

Oh, that is so awesome to hear!! I didn't think any Canadian Disers would have tried it, being offsite (seems most tend to stick with the Disney Dining Plan).

Me personally, I'd to totally do Bubba's.....Planet Hollywood was DS's pick (that, and NBA City again). And to sweeten the pot for Bubba's, I have a buy one meal, get one free coupon from the Entertainment Book, making it MUCH more cost effective than PH.

I am going to run the change by my fellas later tonight. DH will totally be on board (I mean, its barbecued meat in excess....what's not to love?). Hopefully DS won't mind the switcheroo. He's such a good kid and embraces our vacations with a darn good attitude (regardless of what I ask him to do), so I try to build in as many of his "must do's" as I can.

So now I'm extra excited to go to Bubba's.....I ordered an Entertainment book last week. I hope it arrives in time. It said 11-14 business days for delivery and including the Civic Monday it's 11 business days until we leave.

If the book arrives we'll probably go to Bubba's twice....thank you coupons!!!!!!!

Gina, we drove past DTD a couple of times late afternoon, the parking signs were all reporting full lots! Could not see any contruction from the road. All the malls were busy as there was a no tax sale on most back to school items including clothes, this was state wide.

What is this entertainment book you speak of? I've never planned an Orlando vacation, but it sounds like something I should order! :D

The best thing about HOT! is the nights. Oh how I love a Florida hot and humid night. :thumbsup2
