Just got back from SIX FLAGS, boy it isnt DISNEY!

i decided to buy an AP (called season pass) at Six Flags great adventure in NJ. It was the second time i went this season, and i found myself comparing the park to disney the entire time. now i know six flags is more of an "amusement park", not a theme park, but it was interesting to make the comparisons. six flags great adventure blatently ripped off a lot of stuff from disney...they have a fantasy land, the "tea cups", a wanna be thunder mountain railroad, and the best one was the total rip off of Haunted Mansion music on Six Flag's Skull Mountain. I never noticed it before, but I was standing in line, and I kept hearing the same chords from Grim Grinning Ghosts.

also, the park was very dirty, very unlike Disney, and the rides were so poorly themed. they just opened a new area that looks somewhat what AK, with the new ride Kinda Ka, and it was funny to see how hard they tried to make this new area Disneyesque. I think they failed miserably.

anyway, it was an interesting experience to compare the two parks.

I know what you mean. I live about 4 hours from the Six Flags in Lake George NY. We buy season passes every year just to get away for the weekend. My DD LOVES waterparks so we tend to go at least twice a month! But we too compare it to WDW! Although you really can't I mean you can do the whole thing in about 8 hours. Plus it also makes the itch to go to WDW even greater!

We live close to Fiesta Tx Six Flags and also get season passes. However, we love it there...though the food isn't Disney *at all!* LOL ^_^

I have also been to six flags great adventure(in NJ). It is good but compared to disney it is a nightmare!!!

I know what you mean. We went to Six Flags Over Georgia last year and it was nasty and the employees were rude and unaccomodating.

I live around 20-30 mins from 6 Flags America (in MD) and I wouldn't go there if someone gave me free tickets, its really gross.

Years ago I had a season pass when it first opened and it wasn't too bad, but now its so dirty and unorganized.

Six Flags' idea of having a "theme" is slapping a logo of whatever roller coaster on the nearest coke machine

I refuse to go to Six Flags anymore... nearest to us is Six Flags Over Texas and the last time I was there it was a bad visit and just not a nice place to go, so I choose to just head to Disney when I need a themepark fix =)

Up until last year I had not been to Six Flag Great Adventure since I was little. Dh and I had free passes that someone gave us so we thought why not? We went one daty last summer. Sure the rides are definitely thrill rides but the queues are boring, dirty and smelly areas. There is hardly a real theme to anything in the park. However, we try not to compare it, we just wont ever go back!! It certainly makes us long for WDW!
The best way to describe our Six Flags Great Aventure experience was something we saw on the wall in line for a roller coaster. It said "Ben wuz here 6/30/89".
Nuff said.

A few years ago, we went to Six Flags Ohio-now bought by the Cedar Point Owners- and it took us an hour just to get thru the turnstiles. We rode only the smaller rides; lines at the big coasters were 2 hours. In a 6 hour visit, we went on 4 rides, and none big ones. Then we went home and decided never again!

We have been to Great Adventure a number of times. They really market to the thrill ride crowd though they do have a few indoor rides, but hardly Disney like. There are amusement parks and there are theme parks. I think the lines have been blurred between the two now. A lot of parks seem to try to imitate Disney, and that's okay; I don't think they quite measure up. What annoys me is when parks take shots at Disney. We were in Universal Orlando a few years back and on two different rides, the operators made snide remarks about Disney. Oh well. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

We went to 6F/GA about a month ago and I felt like such a Disney snob. I was turning my nose up at everything at 6flags and kept reminding myself that I'd be in WDW soon.

I thought I was the only one. We went to 6F 3 years ago and I will never go again. While we were waiting for one of the rides all I could smell was vomit, in fact, all I could smell was throw up every where we walked. It was really appetizing while I was standing in line for food. I would look up and see spider webs. All I could say to dh was, "At Disney, they don't..." Needless to say dh has never taken me again and I have never asked.

Wow us too... we went have been to Six Flagd in NJ, Hershey park, & Busch Garden Williamsburg. We always compare & Disney wins hands down.

My closest choices are Six Flags in Mexico City or WDW in Orlando. My scorecard for the last 9 years: Disney: 19 visits. Six Flags: 1.

You can add Six Flags Maryland to the group. Unkept and staff that can be rude. We travel to Hersheypark! Disney's Disney!

Six Flags is just nasty. Hershey Park is okay and so is Busch Gardens.

We have season's passes to Six Flags (Gurnee, IL) and it isn't as nice as WDW at all. We still enjoy going there but we don't have the same expectations there as we do at WDW. I used to work at this Six Flags when I was in college and I was one of the "older" ones. They even hire 15 yr olds to work there so it is completely different than the CM's at WDW. I don't like it that smoking is allowed all over the park either. While I prefer the coasters at Great America over WDW coasters, I prefer the WDW atmosphere. My kids could care less about the Bugs Bunny characters, but take them to MK and they'll wait an hour to meet Mickey. A new waterpark opened today at Six Flags by us and we will probably check it out tomorrow. It doesn't have separate admission from the amusement park so anyone who has a ticket to the park can go to the waterpark too. I'm kind of unsure about how this area will be managed, for example, if they only let kids under a certain age in if they have an adult to supervise them, then it will probably be ok. I guess we'll just have to wait and see, for now it's still too chilly here to enjoy a waterpark.

I haven't been to Great Adventure in years. Six Flags NE is pretty nice, so is Dorney Park in PA. Of course they can't compare to Disney though.

OMG I was in GA today and just got back, I guess you missed the rain. My dh and I walk through GA ( no pixie dust here )and compare all the time. I didn't think the park was that dirty and the flowers this year are better than in the past, but half the rides were not open. The new Kindga Ka not running, Houdini's House and some of the kiddie rides. The new Golden Kingdom section was a cute attempt at a theme. The tiger show was nice( they tried to combine dancers and tigers I think they should go to Disney and ask how to put a show together). I did however have the same thoughts over nad over, only 4 more weeks until my 3 weeks in Disney!!!!

non themed, dirty, rude employees....and expensive! We have not been for about 5 years, and that time was with FREE passes. Never again, not even for free!
Now, we keep season passes for Silver Dollar City in Branson, Mo. This is a very clean , nicely themed park that I always have a very good time at. And the food is wonderful! The CM's (I call them that because they stay "in character"), are super nice, and they make the place even more wonderful. There are not ALOT of rides, per se, but great shows are on every time we go. They have different festivals throughout the season, so the shows change. We just went to World Fest, and had a blast. The Christmas festival is the best I have ever seen. All this, and a season pass for and adult is only $58.00! What a bargain! If you have the chance to visit this little park, be sure to go....and don't miss the tour of Marvel Cave!
