Just a short report on our trip to SSR.
CM's: DH, myself, DS (31), DDIL (31), DGD (4) and DGS (3 months)
Our DS and his wife are owners also, so we each had our own 1-bedroom. By the time we decided to meet the kids at WDW, we had to waitlist day-by-day for a studio or 1BR. SSR was 80% or higher booked for the time we were there. You really didn't notice it though because there is plenty of room and things to do for everyone. We were in the Paddock area. Wonderful rooms, clean, great view of the lake, right next to the quiet pool, and right next to the walking bridge to AP. Weather was hot and it rained just about every afternoon, but we didn't let that spoil anything. We always found things to do either in the room (rented DGD movies) or we went to the Community Hall and let her do crafts, color, etc. She loved it all. DH and I babysat DGS while the rest went to Typhoon Lagoon. They said the park wasn't crowded at all. They got there for EMH and left around noon. Never had to wait for any of the slides, etc. We ate a couple of times at AP. We really like to eat there. Good food and nice for the DGD to draw and enjoy. MK was very busy, but we managed and it was a good day. We took advantage of the transportation and went back to the room in the middle of the day and returned in the evening. Rained really hard that night, but they still managed to have the fireworks. I love that show (Wishes). I think it is Disney't best as far as the coordination of the music and the fireworks. Buses were good. Never had to wait over 15 minutes. Only one time did we have to stand and that was when we were trying to get to MK for EMH (morning). The rest of the time, we hit them just right and only had to wait around 5 minutes and then they were never full.
SSR: We love this resort. We own there, and have stayed several times. We have tried WLV, OKW, and VB and will soon try HH this Thanksgiving. We have loved them all. We enjoy being able to go back to the quiet of the resort and just relaxing after a hard day at the parks. I know alot of people think SSR is too big, but we really enjoy it. We also enjoy the outside hallways. You don't get that noise from people running up and down the hallways. I think Disney does a good job of having something for everyone. I know we would enoy ourselves no matter where we stay. Don't worry if you are booked in any of the resorts, because you will enjoy yourself, if you just relax and go with the flow. QUESTIONS: Can anyone identify the bird(?) that swims in the lake under water and only comes up for air? It is the strangest bird I have ever seen. The neck is long and then the body is a different color than the head. It was really weird. Saw it both in the water and out sunning itself. Also, has anyone ever ask what the building is going to be in the middle of the units on the golf course? We asked and the CM's at the desk, said they hadn't been told yet. I was just wondering if it is the pro shop moving or a pool house or snack bar.
I know this report is long, but I wanted everyone to know that for my DH and I SSR is a wonderful place and we love it there. It will only get better in my opinion. Also I wanted to ask everyone to please pray for my son and his family. He is career Army and will be leaving for his third rotation in Iraq in July (thus the reason for the short notice on the trip). It never gets any easier saying good-bye to him either.
Better get to work now. Thanks to everyone on the DIS for all your good advice on DVC. We love our resort, DVC, and WDW. We have met some of the nicest people.
Enjoy, from an Illinois DVC lover!
