Just got back from a wonderful trip Sunday evening. Flew Airtran out of BWI on Sunday morning, May 12th, around 8:30. Checking in was a breeze. Flight was delayed for an hour for "technical problems" Once on board, the pilot explained that their system is "triple-redundant" with 3 on board computers and one of the back-up computers had a s/w problem, so they replaced the computer and tested it, which was the reason for the delay. The Boeing 717 is a very nice plane, nothing like those "cattle-car" 737's" The 717's have more legroom and more comfortable seats.
Arrived at MCO, walked past all the rental counters, and their lines, and down the escalators to the AVIS Preferred Kiosk. Walked right up, got my keys, and gave 'em an entertainment coupon for $15.00 off weekly rental. (Got a full-size 'Pontiac Bonneville' for $188.00 total for 8 days!!!) Staff was helpul. Total time with AVIS?? 5 minutes!
Fast forward to the following Sunday. Dropped CMFrannie, & Eric, at the curb in front of Airtran, and returned the car to AVIS. The Avis guy walked around the car, and gave me a receipt. Total time?? 5 minutes. Walked upstairs, met the family and checked our luggage, which took about 3 minutes. (Note for all you SW fliers...the line was really long...give yourself enough time to check in) Breezed through security. The flight out of MCO was delayed...due to a "weather-situation" in Rochester. The flight was also overbooked by about 3 people. Believe me, the Airtran folks had no shortage of volunteers for bumps. (They were giving away free round-trip tickets, a hotel room & a flight the next morning. If I didn't have to go to work, and Eric to school, we would've volunteered!)
We were very satisfied with Avis(Join the Preferred Program) and Airtran. (We still prefer Southwest, but would fly Airtran again) Hope this helps someone!!!
