Just got back. Any questions about OKW?

We had a two bedroom in building 64, not too far from Hospitality House. OKW is not so much a hotel as it is an apartment complex. It may not be for everyone, but we loved it.

We didn't use points, we just got general reservations for the room.

One of the things we loved was the ability to crank down the AC and return to an ice box after long unseasonably hot November days in the parks. The room was clean and well appointed.

Loved using the water taxi to DTD. So much quicker than the bus. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

Also, the main bathroom was enormous. Not only did I enjoy the 2 person jacuzzi, but the shower is large enough to share too. ;) If I was on a honeymoon, the one bedroom apartment at OKW would be perfect. Quiet with a secluded feel.

This would have been the place my parents would have taken us. They could have saved a ton of money by eating at the room and we kids still would have had a great time.

Happy to answer any questions!

We also love OKW and own points there. So when are you joining DVC?????;)

We have a 2 bedroom reserved in early January.

What floor were you on? Did you like the area you were in?

Did you use the buses for transportation? If so, how were they?

Thanks,

Teresa

Hello to Southwest Illinois. Grew up in Rock Island, lived in Salem for a while too.

We were on the first floor and that was fine with us. (room 6413) Since we didn't have a car we wanted a building close to HH and we sure didn't want to drag bags upstairs. So we asked for either a first floor or an elevator building. We got both! We had maybe a 3 minute walk to HH.

We had a view of the 7th hole of the Lake Buena Vista Golf Course. There was a water fountain off to one side of it and every morning white egrets and ducks were outside. Stunning.

The first floor room was quiet and there was only one occasion where we heard the people upstairs. It was just a very excited kid who kept running and jumping just before mom and dad took him off to the park.

Except for a few times when we used the water taxi, we used buses exclusively and never had a problem. I don't think we ever waited more than 10 minutes anywhere for a bus or even the water taxi. Most times the wait was about 5 minutes.

Our bus stop was at the HH, which is the last stop before leaving OKW. That has it's pros and cons. On the pro side, you're the last stop and can get right underway to the park. On the con side, you could be without a seat if it's crowded and you'll be the last one let off on the way home. I only had to stand in the bus once though when several seats were taken up by a motorized scooter.

There are also internal resort buses. So if you're at the far end of OKW and want to take the water taxi, use that to get to the HH so you can take it. The water taxi is much quicker to get back and forth from DTD even if the taxi moves slowly in the water. Just be aware of it's hours of operation. The last run back is before 9pm.

The water taxi will take you to the marketplace of DTD, but there is a second water taxi that shuttles people between the marketplace and the west end of DTD.

I was not looking forward to the buses, but now that I've been there I can honestly say that it wasn't the hassle I was afraid it would be.

Oh, and joining the DVC? Not yet, Mickey has all my money now! :D
