The rates must be back down today...

I got a midsize Avenger for 7 days in May. Grand Total of $110.26!!!

Quite happy with that!

And now I am reading all of the horror stories of renting with Dollar. I thought they were ok to rent with. Am I wrong? Are there any tips for getting a better experience with them?

wow, that's great, i can't find much under $300 for a week at the end of next month. i just checked Dollar and didn't have any luck....I had a great deal last summer with Fox Rentals in Ft. Myers...I really didn't expect a rental car to cost so much. we always just use DME and on property transport, but we wanted to treat ourselves to a rental this year. any thoughts on finding something cheaper than $300?

First, the OP, THANK YOU! We got a full size for 117.00. We have rented from Dollar many times and never had a problem. We just do the normal, check our paperwork and double check the receipt when we turn the car in. We actually had a ton of billing problems with Avis.

ALSO, go over the outside of the car very carefully. Take pictures of
dents, obviously scratches etc. PLUS notify the rental people regarding
imperfections you found BEFORE you leave the rental lot. ::yes:: This applies to all car rentals. I have always had a good rental experience with Dollar applying my rules.

I just went to Costco travel online and saved over $200 on our rental car in May. I had Budget booked for $423 (that price was already reduced from original one booked). I now have same size car with Alamo for $209.:cool1::banana:

Did you use a code to get that rate?

I didn't use a promo code for the rate to show up, but on my reservation, the promo code is "248". That might help.

I just searched on the side bar for my airport and date, and did not put in what car I wanted. When the next page loaded, I clicked on the yellow ribbon in the middle of the page that said, "City Special".

I just went through the process now, and actually got the rate of $61! Of course you have to add your fees, but still, that is very low!

If you can't find anything with Dollar or Thrify, I suggest Priceline's name your own price. Find the car you want, and take 40% off of the next to lowest price. (That is just my theory...lol) We have gotten some great deals this way.

We almost drove this year, but DH wanted our 3yo to experience the plane. I panicked a bit, b/c I was afraid that it would eat into our budget, but man...we are finding great deals!!! YAY! :cloud9:

Over the years I've had good luck with Dollar. I've also got some great deals with them at MCO and DEN in the past. The last time I rented from Dollar at MCO I had no issues.
