I talked to my mom this AM, and got a not good report. I am well aware of the fact that diabetes, heart disease and cancer run rampant in our family, but it just hit a little closer to home - again. A little background: My grandfather died of lung cancer, my grandmother is about to lose at least 2 toes to diabetes. She will not handle this well at all. Plus the fact that one uncle is diabetic, one was just diagnosed with lung cancer and he also had a heart attack about 10 years ago, and my aunt is pre-diabetic in spite of doing everything "right" for years. She's never even been over weight, but is now on medication to try to get her pancreas working properly. So this is all in my mother's generation now. (oh, and just to add to the list of health concerns, my natural father died of complications from diabetes)
My mom went for her medical last week, and yesterday got a phone call from the doctor's office, they just got her test results back - she has to go for a follow up appointment on her check-up. Of course, they won't tell her what for until she gets there. Could be cholesterol, could be almost anything with the family history. I'm trying to keep positive thoughts going, but with our family history that's a little hard. So my mom asked me to please make sure I go for my medical and tell them to run all of the necessary tests. Guess I'll go book that now.
