...is there anyone else who DOESN'T like halibut??

My dh ordered some at Joe's Crab Shack (we've never had it before), and he made a disgusted face. I asked him what was wrong , and he told me to take a bite.

I took a bite and made a face too... The texture was JUST like chicken breast!! :crazy2: It was like eating a chicken finger cooked in fish grease. Is that halibut is supposed to taste like?

I LOVE Halibut! In fact, I had it last night. It is a firmer fish and mild but like Chicken? Not in my opinion..

It's very tender usually. Maybe it was overcooked?

I swear it was just like biting into a chicken tender. :crazy2: Had the same firmness and the same grain as chicken.

That is so funny! When we went to Alaska, my husband caught a 400+ lb. halibut. They cut it into filets, froze it and we had it shipped home. We netted (after sharing with EVERYONE we knew) about 20 filets. Now, my hubby loves fish, but the rest of us aren't crazy about it. But we got our kids to eat it because we told them it was chicken! And it worked!
Even when we broiled it with just a little butter and lemon, they still thought it was chicken! I could actually go for a nice halibut dinner right about now.

I lived in Alaska for 4 years and Halibet is fabulous cooked right. I would never order it at a Chain restaurant. It has been frozen a long time and way over cooked. It should be flaky not solid. Order it in a finer dining restarant and you will see the difference. It does not taste fishy either. Grilled with butter and lemon is great. Deep fried chunks are great too.

There's also a Halibut called 'Whale Halibut' and that is a whole different thing! I wonder if that is the type that is more like Chicken in texture?

I would also never eat if frozen as the above poster mentioned! Then, I would never eat any Fish previously frozen...

Maybe they should call it "Halibut Fingers" :)

It depends. I love, love, LOVE Alaskan halibut. .... but Atlantic halibut... :crazy2: They are 2 VERY different fishes!! :teacher:

We eat halibut, & I am with the other posters, does not taste like chicken.

Chicken of the Sea?? :fish:

Never had whale halibut & we usually have Atlantic halibut. Yes, it's a firmer fish but should still be tender & flaky. Will agree with the poster that said most chains cannot cook fish decently :teeth:

DH refers to the McDonald's type frozen fish as 'square fish', as in "I'll have the square fish sandwich" ;)

There are fish sticks (which I'm supposing are 'rectangular fish' or 'fish fingers"?? :goodvibes )

Actually, today I will be making fish 'n' chips using halibut.
