Well,
I know there's been this and that on this program here, but I just wanted to post that we had a great experience with our GAD event. Our fam, me, DW, DS6, DD2 (not elgible for voucher, but brought along) volunteered to help in a large blood drive. We helped greet people, get them registered, kids got to hand out water bottles, line up at street and be "cheerleaders" for people coming to give blood. The organization gave our kids free t-shirts and after 3-4 hours we were finished.
We are active in our church, but honestly I don't know if I would have ever thought to take my family to volunteer for something like that and now it's changed lives and helped our kids think about helping other people. I think it is a great program and if you are committed to an event, please try to fulfill your obligation and I hope you have as great an experience as we did! Kudos to Dis.

That's wonderful. :)
Our family is picking up trash on the 18th for a local (sorta) wildlife foundation that I never knew existed until the GAD program. I'm really looking forward learning more about the foundation and hopefully my kids will be more interested in volunteering time. This is the only promotion from Disney that has made me this happy. :)

We just finished our GAD activity as well. We helped at a Fish Out. The local pool stocks the pool with trout and let's the kids go fishing. They do this every spring break. It poured down rain the whole time, so we actually didn't get to help any kids, but each of my kids restrung fishing poles under a canopy.

We just returned from our GAD volunteer day. We volunteered at "All Critters Rescue" in Spotswood, NJ, loading and unloading paper towels, vinegar, and pet supplies. It was a beautiful day to be outdoors. We had a great time.

Even though both of our daughters are too young to receive credit, we volunteered to provide lunch a few weekends ago for a 30-person crew building a home for Habitat for Humanity. It was a great experience. Our 4 year old handed out drinks and the 4 month old was the entertainment! I really liked this year's special promotion.

Wow, great to hear all of the positive responses. Also wanted to update that there was a discrepancy when Disney sent me my link for vouchers, they had me down as a "no show" but my wife and son were approved. I sent an email to the contacts including our organization contact and Disney/HandsOn had someone actually call me and not just email back and forth. They were very professional and situation was resolved in a matter of days, so I think it was one of the best promotions ever!

Glad to hear everyone had a good time. We volunteered to go socialize with the cats at a nearby humane society. We have done this before at the humane society in town and knew it was something we would all enjoy. When we got there no one could pet the cats because of some sickness the cats had :( They were great about finding something else for us to do-we took home about 700 newsletters to place inserts in, fold, and put address labels on. The kids had a good time helping-although they agreed it would have been more fun to play with the cats :D They saw that as helping the animals more. The newsletters weren't to hard to do-the hardest part was keeping the kids organized they were very excited to help.

Our GAD was April 10th, and we are certified and I printed our vouchers today. We had a blast... Need to put them in a safe place for our trip in October 2010..
