Just emailed customer relations

I just got back last Monday from my honeymoon.
Spent all days in parks, and saw some other resorts.
Only one time did I actually see someone who had been ill,it was a young girl, and she had just gotten sick and was still standing there. It appeared that it was an overexcitement kind of sickness. CM's were already on their way to clean it up.
Never heard or saw anyone complain of being sick.
I nor DH felt ill.

I just emailed customer relations regarding the stomach virus that is overtaking the park. I've spoken to a couple of people regarding this along with the recent post on the boards, apparently it's starting to get out of control.

My advice to all of you is to contact customer relations and ask how they are planning to eradicate this - Are they going out of there way to sanitize, etc?

I know my college shut down for this!

If they don't do something and this is ignored this can go on for months and months.

Please help and give them a nudge! The email is:

'wdw.guest.communications@disneyworld.com'

Thanks!

Let me get this straight. You have not been to Disney, you did not get the virus.....

And it's out of control???

Think I will save my email to Disney for something that really matters.

If Disney receives an email from someone how "heard from someone" that there is a virus on the lose I am sure they pay NO attention to it!

(And no Disney does not have to "reimburse" you if you get sick. If that's a concern look into travel insurance!)

Counting down the time till this thread is closed down. Also counting down 4 days until my trip. I will be sure to wear a full body condom.

Make sure you poke a hole in it for a straw so you can breathe!

..............perhaps one lubricated with "Purell."

There really is no such thing as a "stomach flu".....you cannot get the flu in your stomach. It is viral gastroenteritis. It is passed from hand to hand contact. Meaning someone who has it touched a utensil or a rail then you touch it and ingest the virus by mouth or mucous membranes (eyes and nose). You have to be mindful of what you touch and then touch. If you go to a CS restaurant and use the utensil to get a pickle on your burger. You then have the germs on your hand from the utensil then you hold the burger in your hand to eat it. Also do not use water fountains, you are safer drinking from the toilet.

the only thing you and do is wash your hands and be mindful of what you are touching.

On one of our trips to Vegas there was something like this going around. There were notices everywhere about the virus and to wash your hands and don't touch anything on your face unless your hands are clean.

WDW is not like a cruise ship, it is not a self contained environment. Cruise ships have their own "eco-system". WDW could not do anything like what a cruise ship does, but they can do what the Las Vegas hotels did, which costs next to nothing - make people aware. By making people aware, people that do not wash their hands will wash their hands and those that always wash will wash more often.

Also very important for anyone going soon.....also be very careful on the airport and the plane. many airplanes go back and forth to Orlando a few times a day (I know they do from JFK) so take the same precautions at the airport and the airplane. Don't use the plane bathroom if you don't have to. If you do, always carry a kleenex to open the door, close the door. I don't wash my hands in the plane bathroom, but instead use a sanitizing wipe.

You will always have germs always have germs on your hands, it is normal, just don't ingest them. Keep your hands away from your face :thumbsup2

I have not read much past the first page of this thread...sorry.

We were at WDW the weekend before t'giving and we saw nor heard of anyone getting sick. I "think" these types of stomach bug threads seem to take over this time of year on here, every year! The same 2 or 3 people post on several threads and before long their is a panic! I have been there during these times I read about and never witnessed anything.

I think these viruses are in the general population this time of year, so of course some will be at WDW. It is just the way it is. I don't think it is a higher % though. These viruses run rampant in schools. Probably all over the mall too. I would think the airplanes many use are a good source of infection.

I live my life and just try to take precautions as need be. We use Purell before we eat (we wash too) and we don't put our fingers on any part of our face. That is all I can control. :)

My wife, WHO ALWAYS WASHES HER HANDS, was ill for about a day.

It wasn't nice.
It wasn't funny.
It wasn't pleasant.

While I'm not suggesting WDW is at all to blame, for those who are making jokes: it happens, and it happened to us.

OK,let's nit pick the thread to death. I was there. I got sick after having been at the parks for a few days. We did see vomit in each of the 3 parks-it was not near the rides usually associated with puke. I carry hand sanitizer and am a habitual hand washer. Do I think Mickey is causing people to get sick-no but the fact is that I've been reading about a stomach bug at WDW for close to 5 weeks. These posts were from DISers who themselves caught the bug. By far the majority of people are not getting sick but some are.
I really don't understand the mean spiritedness expressed by some posters. If the OP wants to send emails or ask others to send them, why get all huffy. She' not forcing you to email. Be nice!

I agree..even if someone did get sick..oh well thats the way it goes. Im completely confused why you would e mail Disney..sounds ridiculous. :confused3

They've already put up signs about washing hands. If customers don't wash their hands often there isn't much else that can be done.

They don't need to put Purell at the buffets. Will they enforce it so everyone uses it? People need to go into the washroom before dinner and wash their hands. They need to wash again before they leave.

Well it just seems strange I guess to email a company to what, ask them to clean better because there is a virus going around? If it was that bad and such an "epidemic" I would suspect they would be full aware of it.
Like I asked earlier, are they going to email every restaurant and hotel off-site since a lot of visitors to the world stay elsewhere than on-property. It just seems like a silly thing to do.
If she's that concerned than she should protect her own family as there is no way that Disney can do anything to eradicate the bug.
And it's not being mean spirited, its being rational.

Individually sealed plastic utensils would be of great help on Disney's part. We eat counter service all the time, (at least once a week every week.) Sometimes they are wrapped, but mostly they are out in the open, where many people have their hands touching.

I don't think it would be to much to ask for Disney to set up some Purell stations before you enter into restaurants.
Ah, but unless the product was dispensed via infrared sensor or some other non-touch means...

Then it appears that "it" ALSO isn't controlled by washing one's hands. Getting sick IS miserable, especially on vacation - but it happens.
Some previous poster provided drastic suggestions for airplane passengers (because, maybe, all the other passengers practice poor hygiene?). Actually, getting ill in relation to airline travel is primarily due to the contained environment in which illnesses are spread through the ventilation system... claims the woman who caught pneumonia on a flight to Orlando in 2000.

Now, am I the ONLY one who saw the "how to wash your hands" placards in EVERY public restroom in the parks? Ah, I see not - thanks, TDC Nala!

And, if it's not TOO much trouble - for the remaining life of this thread, could we PLEASE refer to certain detritus by its technical name - protein spill? Thanks! ;)

The best way to prevent this virus is by washing hands. Disney can only do so much. Look how many people touch the finger scanners, the ropes, rails, handles, doors, etc. Just stand in the bathroom sometime and see how many guest don't wash their hands after they go. Until guests take more responsibility for their own handwashing, I don't see things changing much. Because even if Disney takes extra steps in cleaning, all it takes is that one guest carrying the virus to touch something.
Excellent advice.

However, I just finished a week (Nov. 27 - Dec. 2), at the French Quarter and saw no evidence of anyone being ill. But that might just mean that I wasn't paying attention. I did notice that in the men's restrooms in the parks, everyone seemed to be washing their hands more than during previous visits to WDW.

Actually, I'm sorta glad that I didn't know about this virus beforehand, and just went through my planned vacation blissfully happy.

I do not carry any kind of germ killing wipes, etc. when on a WDW vacation. But there are a couple of things I do wherever I travel. When entering a restaurant (table service OR counter service) the first order of business is to visit the restroom, whether I have to "use it" or not, BEFORE sitting down at my table, and wash my hands. This is a long standing habit, so I really don't think about it much, it's just automatic. And when entering my room at the resort the first thing I do is wash my hands. (In fact, when I'm in my home town, and return home, the first thing I do is wash my hands.) And, when on the road anywhere, including WDW, I shower before going to bed, not in the morning. I've never been ill at WDW, and perhaps that's part of the reason why. Don't know.

Hope y'all have a trouble free visit too.

Enjoy.

If they put a large bottle of Purrell stationed at the buffet's and entrances to TS's and had a CM stand there and ask people to use it before they touch the common utensils, salt & pepper shakes, etc, it would help.

What is your job? I stand at a counter in DisneyWorld and tell people they have to Purell before they can eat. :rotfl2:

Seriously, CMs have a hard time telling people not to smoke, they get all kinds of rude comments, and now you expect them to basicaly tell people that they are gross and germy? How do you think the general public would react? Not well I bet. Why don't you just Purell after you fill your plate and before you eat?

Shut down the parks because there is a stomach bug going around? Give me a break. It is not like you cannot walk thru the parks without seeing someone puking. There is no way they could sanatize the whole park and keep it clean. No wonder Disney has people on these boards. They must think we are wackos.

It is their responsibility to take extra steps! This is company that grosses t billions every year with their top execs earning millions and then receiving many millions more in bonuses every year. Yes they can afford the extra man hours without a thought. My DH has worked in big business all his life and can tell you there is a ton of extra money in this corporation, do they always want to spend it, no, but they absolutely can afford to and have contingency accounts that are quite significant. His CEO that is not in a super major corporation like Disney made an 11 million dollar bonus last year. In working in a hospital I can tell you there are many steps that can be taken. It's desire and effort!

If they put a large bottle of Purrell stationed at the buffet's and entrances to TS's and had a CM stand there and ask people to use it before they touch the common utensils, salt & pepper shakes, etc, it would help. If they were more diligent in wiping down tables and chairs with sanitizer. and made Purrell available to their cashiers, all food distributors, had extra cleaning and sanitizing in the bathrooms to clean up after everyone who is not wiping down the seat or floor when they vomit or what have you, they could definetly curb the amount of cross contamination. Also, if they would sanitize the bedspreads and be a bit more diligent in the cleaning of rooms, etc. Wipe down railings and such this all would help.

If they notified people there was a problem and urged them to bring or use hand sanitizer this would also help.

If there is a will there is a way. It may not completely eradicate the problem but it would bring it down to a more manageable level, instead of epidemic proportions. Will it cost them money, absolutely, but they can afford it without passing the costs on to you. This is the purpose of contingency accounts.

I'm not trying to overreact. I understand how germs work I'm in the medical profession! I understand new exposure to germs and all, but these types of viruses can get out of control very quickly and there are steps they can take to help. Park cleanliness has gone down since they first opened, they need to step up to the plate to bring it back to it's glory days. Maybe some of you don't remember the times when at peak the bathrooms were still spotless. I do - it was the one thing I was amazed with when I first went to Disney World many years ago!
This is not an issue. D.W. is not like an airliner which is enclosed for crying out loud. NO its not thier responsibility to ensure "we" keep our hands clean. Thats MY responsibility. Life is tough sometimes you get sick..oh well. I cannot belive anything is being made of this. :rotfl2: We went to Vegas a few years ago..I got sick. Should i email the hotel? Sue them? :rotfl: Anyways, Im sorry i just had to react to this. Someone must have alot of time to do nothing to make an issue of this. :coffee: If i could id goto Disney tomorrow!! If we get sick then oh well, We didnt wash up enough, OUR fault. The income of a company has nothing to do with this..That sounds kinda like a socialism comment there.
