Just don't call her Cindy!

My dd received a Cinderella book for Christmas, called "My Side of the Story". It's really cute. It tells the story from Cinderella's point of view, then you can flip the book over and read it from the stepmother's point of view.

Anyway, at one point on Cinderella's side, she says she hates the nickname "Cindy" and prefers "Ella". :rotfl2:

I hope she never comes to the DIS Boards, she'll be very upset to see herself called "Cindy" all over the place!

Darn I love calling her Cindy. I guess I'll have to ask her in person the next time I see her. After all you can't trust those ghost written biographies.

I had neverheard Cinderella referred to as Cindy before coming to the Dis. I personally don't like the sound of it... it's so plain and boring compared to the unique sound of Cinderella; it's so completely different it's like you're talking about a different person.

It's funny that that's mentioned in there!

::yes::

Every time I read it it annoys me, yeah I knwo I'm weird LOL

it's never made sense to me since her name is Ella. I've obviously given it too much thought

BLECH! To me it's like fingernails on a chalkboard when I read people calling her "Cindy." I agree with Laurajetter. It's cheapens her character IMO.

Well if you've thought about it too much I'm really thinking about it too much! Is Ella even her name? Doesn't 'ella' mean girl or female? In essance they are calling her 'the girl of the cinders' or something like that?

I'm pretty sure I remember reading in of the stories that her name was Ella and they called her Cinderella because of the ashes

Yes, "Ella" is her name, and the step-sisters tauntingly calling her "Ella of the cinders" is how she got to be "Cinderella." Blame my knowing this on DD2. You don't need me to tell you which one she is ;) Her room looks like a Cinderella shrine :rotfl2:

Laurie :)

We bought the Sleeping Beauty/Maleficiant one and the Snow White Wicked Queen one.

It was always the huntsman's fault never the wicked queen, both admit it. lol And MAleficant was just a big time business woman and putting a ban on spenning wheels caused her business to crash if i remember them correctly.

I love these books! There's also one with Cruella one with Hook and one with Big Bad Wolf

LOL! That's funny! In this one Cinderella's POV is pretty close to the original story, and her dad calls her Ella. The stepmother goes on and on about her shy and delicate girls being taunted by the wild Cinderella, who runs around outside and "talks to animals". She and her daughters saved Cinderella from the embarassment of attending the ball in a dress that looked like it had been made by mice! And Ella wasnt even grateful for that!

Oh yea, and according to this book, the stepmother is "Lady Tremaine". Who knew that?

IMO I would never called Cinderella Cindy. Doesn't fit her. Doesn't make me angry or anything when others do, just doesn't sound right to me. Cinderella sounds so much prettier.

Where do we get the book. My DD who is 8 loves who we call Rella. I would like to get the book for her. Thanks!

OK I've been thinking about this. These sort of things sit on my mind... :earsboy:

I've decided to stop calling her Cindy. Cindy does seem a fine nickname for someone named Cinderella but Cinderella isn't really her name, Ella is. Calling her Cindy emphasizes the bad part of her name. The part that was added on hurtfully and I'd never want to hurt her feelings.

So from now on it's Ella or Cinderella and not Cindy. But I will miss calling her Cindy.

I found it here at Barnes and Noble.com. If you go to Children's books, then search "my side of the story", it'll come up with this one, as well as a Peter Pan one, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Little Mermaid and 101 Dalmations, but you do have to page through many other books that come up on that search as well.

Actually, this is in the movie. When they announce the step-mother and step-sisters at the ball.
These books are great.
Have you ever read the true story of the Three Little Pigs as told by the Big Bag Wolf. It is hilarous. He was only trying to make a cake for his sick grandmother and those pigs were so rude to him. Of course when he sees the dead pig lying there, he can't let a perfectly good pork dinner go to waste!

I saw the book at Osco (may be Albertson's or something like that in other states?) It was in a discount books bin for like $5.99. I'll have to go back and pick it up. It looked really cute!

My daughter is 19 months and all she can say is "Ella"...little did we know she was calling her by the right name!
