Hanname My DIS Friends!

I was just watching TV with my daughter, and in the corner of the screen was an ad that said "Go to channel 650 for Disney Vacations" (or something like that, forgot the exact words). 650? I never got that channel before..... Disney Vacations????? QUICK QUICK TURN TO CHANNEL 650!!

Well there it was, what a bonus! I live on Long Island in Nassau County and have IO digital cable. I don't know if this channel is all across the USA but it is very cool IMHO. It includes a menu with 4 choices:

1. "Highlights"--Current highlights of stuff going on at WDW (2 minutes long)

2. "Inside"--Latest attractions (5 minutes long)

3. "Affordable Vacations"--How to get tickets, reserve rooms, etc. (5 minutes)

4. "Walt Disney World Tour"--A really fun (imho) tour with 4 different people talking about WDW from different perspectives--A "thrill ride" guy--who had really messy hair, (I guess he was supposed to appeal to the teenagers), A "Mom" type who accentuated the kid friendly stuff, A "recreation" guy who talked about that and a woman who was the main host and kept things flowing. (50 minutes long)

BTW if you have digital cable you can even fast forward, pause and rewind (using your cable remote), all the stuff in 1-4 above. I looked through it all quickly (was so excited I had to run up and post this to share with everyone), didn't see much DVC but saw the sign with the logo and all of the resorts. I'll have to go back and see if there's any more details if I watch it more slowly, but I don't think so.

I got a real kick out of it, it's soooo much fun to have a channel similar to the ones at the Resort right there on my home TV. BTW that annoying woman you see on the tv when you're at WDW--sorry if this offends anyone but I find her really annoying--isn't involved in this one (thankfully, LOL). It's not the same as any of the planning kits I have seen. Plus the "highlights" and the "inside sections" are supposed to change regularly, so it will be great to check for updates periodically and to get a good WDW fix.

I never knew I had this channel, I believe it is a pretty recent addition. So if anyone out there has digital cable check it out, you might have it too. And everyone who lives in Nassau County on Long Island and has IO just turn to channel 650. Maybe most of you already knew about this, but I sure didn't and I just had to share! :goodvibes

Well poooo...I dont have anything like that. I have direct tv. Was it called Disney Vacation channel? I wonder if it will be a part of all cable and satellite soon? Fiddle. What a dissapointment. But im happy for you. :goodvibes

The channel sounds pretty cool.

I think the tour with the four perspectives sounds just like the latest vacation planning kit. We just got it and it has a DVD that sounds just like you describe, as well as a CD-ROM for the computer that's more planning stuff.

Now I'll have to look for that channel through our cable service! :earsgirl:

Sorry Mellie I wish you had it too! The official name of the channel is "Disney Vacations", although it sure seems to stress WDW, the other parks are mentioned but in much less detail.

I just looked at the channel again. There's a bunch of stuff about Magical Express and the whole 50 year celebration. They show the new coaster in AK (expedition everest) as it's being constructed and discuss that. The stuff on soarin, mission space and stitch had more details, but the older attractions are in there too.

It's done a little more creatively than most of the cds and videos they mail to you. Instead of there being different obvious "Sections" it has a more natural flow to it. For instance instead of Resorts being a category, they show different resorts and mention what they have to offer when discussing restaurants and recreation. It really is one of the best promos I have seen--sorry to those who can't get it, I don't mean to make anyone feel bad.

I hope others here either have it now or get it soon, definitely a fun channel!

650 gives me the upcoming Mariners/Met game.

I don't know where you live Laurajean but I am sure the channel # varies from area to area. My Dad live in Queens, NYC and his cable channels are numbered differently than mine, just a few towns over in Nassau County on LI. Perhaps you have it but not at that channel number.

The only folks I can promise have it on channel 650 are those in Nassau County on LI who have IO digital cable.

I guess I don't have the latest one then. I have one from about 6 months ago and it's not the one on the Channel I am talking about. In fact on this "new" channel I found they mention going to the web to order your own planning video, so I would hope it would be different! But since you seem to recognize the description I gave and I don't doubt your word, I hope those ordering the video after watching the channel aren't too disappointed if it turns out to be exactly the same.

My DS was just complaining that we're the only ones without IO. Well, I guess now I have reason to get it! Sign me up!

Yay you made my day! That's what I was hoping when I originally posted--that someone here on the DIS boards would (like me when I stumbled upon it) get a nice surprise. Thanks for letting me know!:cheer2:

Your welcome idratherbeinwdw :goodvibes , haven`t seen the whole program yet, but I will this evening ! thank you again for the tip :wave2:

Hanname. AARGGH! I am forced to wait for my Disney fixes on the travel channel. I dvr everything and watch them over and over and work myself up into a huge lather. I dont know if I'm ready for the Disney Vacation Channel but you know if it becomes available in my area I'll be all over it. :Pinkbounc Disney getaways and the Grand floridian as experienced by the one and only Sam Brown are up next. My dvr went wacko a while ago and I had to turn it in for another one. It had all my disney shows on there from forever, I just about had a Hanname when they told me they couldn't fix it. "What the Hanname do you mean you cant fix it?" :crazy2:  :faint:

Thank goodness for TiVo, eh? I had a fit that I missed yesterday's Food Network WDW special, but then I checked TiVo and there it was. (TiVo knows me so well.)

Now I just need to figure out how to record from TiVo to a DVD-R so we can burn DVDs and then free up space so TiVo has room to record more Disney stuff!

Thanks for the heads up Mar'. I found it just where you said it was!! :cheer2:

Glad you saw the post, I was hoping you would since I know we are in the same area, and I figured you'd have access to the channel. :flower1:

To those who are looking for TV shows that are WDW related but who don't have TIVO have you seen the site below?

http://www.bartlett-sloan.net/tv/agenda.php3?modeagenda=soon

It's got all the Disney Theme Park related TV stuff and is updated every week. I imagine many folks here on the boards know about it already, but if you don't it's a great site IMO. I have my VCR set to tape "Disney's Great Escapes" later this morning when I am at work. I noticed it on the site and it looks interesting, it's about deluxe resorts and I am hoping to see BW, my home resort, even if they don't show the Villas side. I also love the Poly, so I hope to see stuff on that resort too. Some of the shows they list are played repeatedly (i.e. Full House goes to WDW) but they have a lot of new things also, so I try to remember to check the site weekly and record anything I don't already have.

Hi Mar!

Just saw this post! That would be great to have, but I doubt we have it here. I have digital cable through Cox. I'll look into it tonight just in case. I'm always checking the Travel Channel for Disney shows. Seen and taped most of them. Now all they seem to have is poker. :confused3

Thanks - Idratherbeinwdw.

I also live in Nassau. I can't wait to get home to check it out.

This is my first port. I just returned from WDW and puchased 160 points At SSR. I can't wait for our closing so I can book our next trip. :cheer2:

This station will help with my WDW withdrawls.
