Just did our volunteer day - many didn't show

Just got home. Was registered for the 10 - 2 shift to sell raffle tickets for Variety Kids club telethon. The dates worked for us and felt almost bad that it was only 4 hours and inside a mall where it would be warm and not a dirty job. Me, DH and DD were there - there were two of the organizers and also two other Disney volunteers. We worked steady - requesting donations, upselling, fillout out tickets.... no breaks but it was great. At 2:00 not one volunteer for the second shift showed up - we offered to stay but they said no - you filled your commitment. They called and the others all said - oh we can't make it - they didn't cancel just didn't show up. Feel bad as I'm sure others would have liked to sign up. We stayed and felt better doing more than the original 4 hours. They asked if we could be placed on their list for future functions - we said sure. Hope it works out for all charities that they get more people registered as future volunteers. Now looking forward to Disney in August !!!

When we did ours, they had extra people show up. So many in fact, that we ended up doing very little. It was nice though because I know there were some people there that are going to be returning to get hours for their school projects. I think it stinks that people can just not show up if they found something closer to their house/easier or don't feel like going. At least now they won't get a second chance to pick a project. It also stinks though for the ones that legitimately cancelled (almost us, DD was sick).

This happens all the time with people that say they will help and then dont. I cannt tell you how many people sign up for pta stuff and then never show or call....
