Just curious-how do you camp?

With all the loop talk about fitting and in some cases not fitting in your sites-I was curious as to what kind of "house" to YOU bring to Ft.W? Pop-up, TT, tent, etc. As we were driving around to all the loops we noticed a few sites were VERY tight depending on what kind of RV you had. We have an Outback 26RS with slideout so we always suggest a site for a 30 ft. TT (no side slideouts). I think the side slideouts sometimes make the sites very tight from the looks of the RV's in some of the sites.
I found it was in the original sites for the most part. Just found this interesting. So what are you bringing to the Ft.?

Last trip, my spread was a 13x13 Coleman Tent, two 10x10 dome tents, two 10x10 EZ Ups and a 9x11 Wal-Mart rainfly (That was for 3 of us staying for two weeks).

We have a Fleetwood Pop Up, no side slideouts.

Nice little older Coleman pop-up. No frills: Sink, furnace, fridge and beds! Has an awning, no screen room (we forego the awning and set up a screen house right next to the door when needed for bug control).

As the boys get bigger & older, we will likely set up the 8 x 13 Coleman cabin tent next to the pop-up for them!

Our next trip to WDW as a family will be at the Fort - can't wait!!!

We camp in our 37 ft. 1998 Bounder motorhome with a slide-out. WE LOVE IT!!! Well, actually the motorhome belongs to our bassett hound, but he lets us use it.

You see, prior to the m/h we had a 30 ft. 5th wheel, and the ride to and from camping was getting a bit too tight in the truck for all of us and the bassett 'cause he has a bad back. So, we bought him a motorhome. We're all much more comfortable on the ride now.

clkelley-how do you like your walmart tent? A friend of mine is thinking of trying ftw in a tent. She's not sure she and the 4 boys and dh will like camping so i suggested her to look at WM. Are you pleased with your tent? Any suggestions on what to get a family of 6? When we tent camped we had little ones 3 & 5 and we're short little people. I'm clueless on a large family.

Does anyone know where to suggest looking for a used pop-up for 6?

We also have a Coleman pop up. We can fit anywhere in the Fort.

We go in our Fleetwood pop up, with a slide out (dinette). We have not had any problems fitting anywhere, even in the partial hookup areas.

We camp in our 2003 32' Layton bunkhouse fifth wheel with slide. Our previous camper was a 1995 Coleman Utah.

We've tent camped in FW once, made many trips in a 32' TT, and now have a MH. Our last site was really tight in the MH. Couldn't extend the awning because of trees overhanging.

The Wal-Mart tents are fine. I've had them for about 4 years now, and they were getting used 1/2 dozen weekends a year. (Not so much now as the youngest aged out of Boy Scouts and is off at college). I am really meticulous about taking care of my tents and waterproof them about every 6 months and make sure they are thoroughly dry when I put them away. We also did away with the bags they originally came in. I have a large plastic bin for each of us that we used for weekend camping trips. It has the tent, plastic ground cloths, air mattress, sleeping bag, bed linens, mess kit, flashlight, poncho, shower kit, etc., and is layed in the bin in the order that you would need to pull them out to set up. (Each of us has our own tent).

That way for weekend trips, we just pack a couple changes of clothes in a duffle bag, grab the bin(s), and we're ready to go.

However, for my longer Ft. Wilderness trips, I now have the big 13x13 Coleman with 3 rooms. I got tired of crawling on my knees for the longer trips

That crawling thing was what got us to buy our popup! I think it's an '04(?) Fleetwood Westlake. I love it! It sleeps 5 people great, but we'll see this weekend how well it works with 2 medium-sized dogs added into the mix.

We still use our old tents sometimes, mostly for Girl/Cub Scout trips. I also ditched the bags they came in, and bought duffle bags to keep each tent, the tarp, poles and misc. equipment that go with setting them up. Those duffles stay in the garage, and when it's camping time, it's just grab and go with the duffle for the right-sized tent for the trip. I keep separate duffles in the house (I have a major fear of spiders ) for the sleeping bags and pillows, and each person gets their own duffle for personal stuff. I like the duffles because they're squishable and don't take up precious camping space when empty.

I've bought so many duffle bags that it's become a running family joke! (Yes, they're even color-coded.) I do use a plastic bin to keep my camping cooking stuff...that works great, too!

Sue-you are ME! I'm a BAG person and we have so many. i love the color Cordinate idea. When we had our pop-up I put our clothes in those sterilte drawers that fit where the potty was-we didn't use it. I ditched the bags. Then to go use the showers we loaded our clothes and towel in these mesh bags bought from Targets $1 spot 2 years ago. Best thing we ever did. I use them in our TT too.
I'm an organizational freak too. It drives my dh nuts sometimes but hey, he knows where everything is and so do the kids!

I now tow a 30 ft Jayco JayFeather and have had no trouble making it fit. My old cmaper was a Coleman Bayside Pop-up. It fit fine once you got it in, but they have a tendancy to try to squeeze you in a space if you are in a pop-up. I had alot more trouble backing the pop-up into spaces than I do the travel trailer. I think that FW is steadily removing trees that may cause problems for people backing in. I think they have realized that trees directly in front of a site can make it difficult to back in and they are taking them out. This past week I was down there and I noticed that there were fressh stumps all over the place.

We have a 40' 5th wheel toy hauler (use the back for the golf cart) that we tow with a long bed F-350. It has 3 slides.

The site they assigned us to was waaaaay too short for the camper much less the truck. We drove around the 300 loop and found a site (second to last one on rt.) that we got into but it was too short to park the truck at the site -- we had to park at the front lot. It was a tight squeeze -- We were on top on the site next to us at the rear of the site.

So far we haven't been in a campsite that we haven't fit into.
