I have seen the pictures of the suites, Roy and Walt Disney, and was wondering if anyone has stayed in one of these and their opinions about it. :bounce: :bounce:

This was so exciting. We couldn't believe we were on a ship! It was beautiful, huge and just plain Disney! We ate at Parrot Cay and then headed off to meet our concierge at Sessions. There we met Laura and later Martin. They took our reservations for Palos, Surial Bath, CC rentals. (In hindsight, at that time I should have asked them what else was available for us as guests of the WD Suite.) Then we went off to our room - The Walt Disney Suite #8030!

The boys couldn't wait to open the door, it was like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, when everything goes from black and white to color. The room was absolutely magnificient! As you walk in to your left is a bathroom, on your right a table with magazines. (The hall winds up into the living area.) Continue down the hall and on your left is a room with cabinets, sink, telephone, and to your right a door which leads to two closets accross from one another then leads to the master bedroom with a queen-size bed and TV, bench, make-up table, nitetables. From this room it leads to a huge bathroom with jacuzzi, double sinks, toilet, shower, telephone and TV. From the master bedroom, opposite the bathroom is the library with TV, phone and a pull-down double-size murphy bed. From there or from the long corridor you came in from is the living room, wet bar area with TV, VCR, CD-player, telephone, sink, refrigerator, cabinets gallour, and a piano! Next to that room is the dining room with table and six upholstered chairs along with a table along the wall with all the menus from the restaurants. Adjacent to the dining room was another bedroom with TV, two dressers, telephone 2 twin beds and 2 pull-down beds on top of the twins, there was a walk-in closet and cabinet in there. Also in that room was another nice size bathroom with jacuzzi and telephone. The veranda had to be at least 40 feet long, it held two lounge chairs, four straight back chairs and a number of small tables. Door to the veranda were located in the Dining room, Living Room and Library. Absolutely fantastic. The walls were done in a light oak. There were fresh flowers as we walked in (very unusual, but pretty ones) and a fruit bowl. The refrigerator had a few sodas and bottled water in it. The ice bucket was full. (The beds and pillows were actually very comfortable too!) Whew - hope that describes it enough. I'm not really sure how to download pictures, but if your really interested give me the instructions and I'll be more than happy to give it a shot.

After boarding we were escorted to the Roy Disney Royal Suite. It was better than great with 1150 Sq. Ft. of luxury surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean. There was a large living room with all the perks, a dining room, a library, two bedrooms and two massive bathrooms with a spa in each and a 35-foot private veranda that overlooked the ocean. As we walked in to the suite, we just looked at each other and smiled from ear to ear.

Soon after arriving, the head concierge and her assistance made there appearance to welcome us both and to answer questions and make our restaurant and spa reservations. That evening we had a wonderful dinner and show. Later we spent time together on our private veranda sipping champagne to a bright romantic moon and to the sight and sounds of the gentle ocean waves below.

We have taken 2 cruises with DCL , the 1st was in Nov. 1998 on the Magic in the Roy suite and the other was last Nov (2000) on the Wonder in the Walt suite.

As was stated the floor plans are identical although inverted (mirror images of eachother). The Roy suite is in a dark wood that is just breathtaking with pictures of Roy Disney and his wife Edna around the suite. The Walt suite is done in very light wood featuring the art deco style and does have a baby grand piano (by the way it definately does work as I had several "concerts" performed for me by my grandchildren who were with their parents, my married children, and staying in the 2 adjoining family suites). As far as I am concerned either one is the ultimate in luxury and made the cruises even more terrific than I could have imagined. If I had to choose which one I liked more it would be the Roy suite but its like winning the lottery and then having to choose either cash or check, either one is great.

All I can say about the royal suites is BEWARE because once you have stayed in one you can NEVER go back to a regular room. If you have any other questions or want me to e mail you the pictures of both suites, just let me know.
miksicnarf had these comments about a Category 2 suite:

Since it was after 1:00 p.m., we were anxious to see our suite so we meandered down Beat St. to the forward elevators, up to deck 8 and into suite 8516, which is just adjacent to the elevators—very handy. Wow! The suite was very impressive! We wondered from room to room, taking it all in. The suite is paneled throughout in dark, high-gloss burled wood except for the 2nd bedroom, which is done in light burled wood. In the entrance hall is a mirror with a shelf below on which we found a variety of current magazines. There’s a closet in the hall, next to the ½ bath. In the living room is a queen size sofa bed, end tables, an armchair and coffee table. On the coffee table was a basket filled with kids' alphabet blocks, which our kids used during the cruise to spell out messages about their whereabouts. There are built-in cabinets and stocked bookshelves along one wall, next to the wet bar which is stocked with glassware. The TV, VCR and CD changer/player are housed in these cabinets, as well as empty storage space. On the other side of the room, opposite the couch, is the dining table with 6 upholstered chairs. The wall along the huge verandah is floor to ceiling, wall to wall glass with 2 sliding doors leading out from this room. The verandah has 3 chairs, 2 tables and one lounge chair.

In the master suite is a king size bed, 2 night tables and lots more built-in cabinets and bookshelves, and a TV. Again, one wall is all glass with a slider out to the verandah. There’s a makeup table built into an alcove, with a chair, big mirror and more drawer space. Right behind it is the big walk-in closet where there are more drawers and shelves, full-length mirror, the safe, and of course hanging space. Two plush robes and two pairs of slippers were waiting. There’s plenty of room in the closet for luggage.

In the first room of the master bath is a large vanity with double sinks and again, plenty of drawer space, wall to wall mirror and a big Jacuzzi tub. Next to that is the room with the toilet and big shower, and more shelves. The master bath is all marble.

The 2nd bedroom was set up with two twin beds and two night tables. There’s a walk-in closet, a small TV and built-in cabinets. The adjoining bath is divided into the sink/vanity area and the tub/toilet area. It’s done in white ceramic tile, as is the ½ bath off of the living room.

The suite is decorated throughout in art deco style. It was easy to imagine being aboard an old, gracious ocean liner. We were dazzled.

And CADisneygirl created a web site with photos and descriptions of their cruise in the Roy Suite (disneydreams.homestead.com/)

Thanks so much Dave from Marietta!!!!:bounce: :bounce: I really appreciate the links. I especially love the pictures of the Roy Disney Suite. A couple of friends and I are considering going all out and booking one of the royals and I am getting great feed-back from those who have been. I took a DCL trip in July of 2000 in Cat 12, which was great but would like to splurge this time. My friends have never cruised before so it would really be a treat for them.

Thanks again for all your help. :sunny:

Keep in mind, Sharon, that the Cat. 1s book up FAR in advance, so if you're interested in booking don't wait too long. Enjoy! :)

Thanks for the info Michelle. Believe me, it will be a little while. I just returned in December from a trip to WDW. It was great!!! My daughter got proposed to on this trip. It was very special. There was 6 in our group. This is our first Christmas trip and I am spoiled now. I will never want to go back in the summer heat and crowds now. :smooth:

I was thinking along the lines of Nov/Dec of 2003 or so. I have a wedding to plan for now and I can only do one thing at a time. ha ha. :bounce: :bounce:

Thanks everyone for the information. I truly appreciate it.

Just as an FYI to what Michelle so correctly added about booking the Disney Category 1 suites far in advance...in mid-June 2001 we booked our Roy Disney suite for March 29, 2003. And when I last checked, most of 2003 was spoken for since we were investigating changing weeks but decided to stay put.

Considering that only about 100 Roy/Walt Disney suites are available each year on the Magic, they're pretty hard to come by.

Here's a question I was wondering about...since the Roy suite has no piano and the layout is essentially the same as the Walt suite...is the Roy suite a bit spacier since it doesn't have a baby grand sitting there?

I have booked both the Walt and Roy suites. Both times, I booked them 13months in advance and they were for the week before christmas. Did the Walt in Dec. 2000 and have the Roy booked for Dec. 2002.

Hi Land and Sea Guy!
You're on the Dec. 14/2002 cruise right??? We'll be your next door neighbours in 8532! It's so nice to finally be able to say that we are going THIS year!!

Hi 'The Land & Sea Guy' and 'Suanne'...

Know you'll enjoy your suites! Don't I wish!! Our gang will be on that cruise also and are so excited even if it is the Cat.9 lower rent district :D I know we'll have a magical time ;)

We are also on the 12/14/02 cruise! Right now we are on deck 8, cat. 4, no room assigned.

We tried in early October '00 to book the Walt or Roy suite for the Christmas Magic, 12/22/01, for our large family group, but both were already booked 14.5 months in advance! The people who did get the Roy suite said they booked it two years in advance!

We were able to get a cat. 3 for my mother and DD so that we would have a living room for the 19 of us to gather in. We were told that we had the last cat. 3 and got the last 3 rooms in cat 4 - 14.5 months in advance!!

So is it correct that the Roy suite does not have a piano? I booked it about 5 months ago for May 2003.

Sounds like we could have a little DIS meet in the making for our 12/14 cruise!! :)

FYI - The Roy suite does not have a piano in it but it is terrific none the less. In fact in my opinion it is even better than the Walt suite which does have a piano.

I checked today on the first available date for a Cat 1................It was Oct 11, 2003..........book early folks!!!!!!

We have not stayed in the Cat. 1 but I thought I would mention that if you are going on the cruise and would like to tour the suites go there on the day you are to depart the ship and look around. On our cruise we happen to be walking by on the day we were to depat the ship and noticed that they were cleaning the cat. 1 suite (don't remeber which one) and we asked if we could look around and the steward told us we were welcome to look around.

We stayed in a category 1 suite on both of our cruises and had breakfast in our dining room on the morning of the last day. On both cruises people just came by that morning and asked if they could see the suite and we always showed them around (we also offered them a bagel and coffee). If you are interested in seeing these suites try stopping by and I'm sure that you will be able to look around. By the way, we are booked in the Walt Disney suite for the 11/2/2002 7 day Magic cruise (299 days and counting) and if any of you Disboards enthusiasts are cruising with us, please stop by and say hello.
