Just confirmed, Disney is announcing that they will open a third theme park location, near Davis OK, as a result of the proximity to I-40, and a short drive from the DFW area, where there is a "confluence of major interstates" that cross the nation. According to reports, Mr. Iger states that the park has been in the planning stages for approximately 15 years, and that it was initially conceived by Michael Eisner, and, because of the respect the current Disney Management has for Mr,. Eisner, the well laid plans were voted on this morning, and provided with the final approval. The park is slated to be placed on two adjoining tracts of land, one being 105 acres, and the second being 149 acres. The smaller of the two tracts is to be dedicated to a historical park, addressing the push west by early american settlers. Disney describes the park as a hands on exhibit, which will allow guests to participate in the push west, including attractions based upon the wagon trails, the land rush and the boom when oil was discovered.

The second tract will, according to unnamed Disney sources, contain three distinct lands, The Gilded Age, The Villans, and Thunder Alley. The park is being designed to allow the addition of two other areas, which will be accessible from the center attraction, which will be housed in a recreated oversized, animated forest, containing characters from Tarzan and Pocohantas, among others.

No joke, I am amazed as anybody that they were able to keep this a secret as long as they did without the news reporting it. Has anyone else seen any additional news reports? I did a search, and didn't see many, although I guess it might be in the financial papers.

/me checks calendar...its not April 1st...hmm...

I'll believe it when i see it for myself with my own 2 eyes.Last media report, iger swore that there were no plans for any new projects in the usa and that all investment monies would be used to vamp up all exisiting parks al ready built in the us.

Does anyone else think this would be all over screamscape or other rumor boards, which btw i check and is not? :confused3

That one is as about as good as "Disney is building in Branson!" Disney did build in Branson . . . a new Disney STORE--yippeee.

That one is almost as good as "Disney bought back the Disney Stores from The Children's Place." Everyone can dream, I guess.

I remember hearing this same "rumor" when I worked at TDS in the 90's.

Back in the early 90's Disney was palnning another theme park with a historical theme in Va. They had already purchased the land close to where we live. Alot of people fought them and they gave up the plan for here at least. ( People thought Disney would bring too much traffic~ so what did they build there instead~ more houses!!!) :confused3
I wouldn't be surprised that this is a reason thsi rumor may persist.

Sarangel, don't you think this one should be closed? :confused3

This isn't breaking any rules, it's just supremely silly. This kind of "joke" thread shows up once in a while, but it can also lead to real discussion about Disney's strategy for the Theme Parks. I'm hoping that this will go that direction, or die a painless death. :surfweb:
