Just checked out of the Contemporary, I get it now.

My family has stayed at so many Disney resorts, even a few off property, but we've never tried the Contemporary, until now, that is. I've always had a preconceived notion that it is sterile, cold, austere. I just never saw the appeal. Until we actually stayed there. I get it now. I totally get it. I love the understated details, the thoughtfulness that went into seemingly every design decision, even the way they make a cavernous space feel quiet and comfortable. The view of Bay Lake is absolutely gorgeous. I love the bathroom layout. I can't say enough great things. We'll definitely add this one to the mix.

I have to admit, I totally have the same idea about the Contemporary. It has never appealed to me. I started watching YouTube videos of walkthroughs and WOW, did that change my mind. Now the Contemporary is near the top of my list.

Agreed! Walking to MK really can't beat either!

Hmmmm, have not stayed there. I have always thought it was not themed enough. Think I'll take a peek at some videos to see if I'd consider giving it a shot.
Thx for posting.

It's our favorite resort. It is so unbelievably peaceful and quiet...especially considering it is right next to the MK.

I love reading this! I've always shied away from the Contemporary, but I'm considering it for a trip next October with my mom. I watched the Dis Unplugged "Why we love the Contemporary" video, and it garnered such an emotional response from the guys on the video, that it has me questioning my initial impression too.

It's our favorite resort! We loved it so much that when we bought our DVC points, I wouldn't even consider anywhere but BLT! Welcome to "We LOVE the CR" club!

There's NOTHING like watch Hallo-wishes right from your resort! Our first time at the CR in 2010 was in October and it's still, by far, our favorite trip! We splurged for a TPV room and it was just the greatest thing ever! But even if you can't splurge, you can always watch from the observation deck. Your mom will LOVE it!

Before we became a family of five, we stayed in a Garden Wing Room at the Contemporary more than once with kids. We just LOVED the convenience of walking to/from the Magic Kingdom. The only regret is that we never stayed in a Contemporary Tower room as that was my DH's hope.

Thankfully after we bought into SSR at DVC we didn't have to wait too long before BLT was available. We have had the chance to stay in a tower room at BLT a few times and it's been great. It's one of our favorite resorts!

Yay! Just booked a Garden Wing room for Feb - glad to hear it getting so much love!

Do you have kids? If so did they enjoy the pool?

My kids #1 request is an awesome pool. It's really their only request. CR pool looks kinda boring. I would be perfectly fine with it but with them I don't know. I've thought about renting dvc points at BLT for a mother daughter trip.

Totally agree. We've stayed at almost every other resort but never felt the desire to stay at The Contemporary until we were gifted some points by a friend for a stay at Bay Lake Tower this past February. It totally changed our perception of CR as a whole. We loved walking through the shops, eating at Contempo Cafe and the general feel overall. We are looking to stay at CR when we go back next summer.

I'm curious about the pool too. We've shied away from CR for that reason, as our DS is still quite young and loves a fun pool.

Mine are 10 and 16 and it's still their biggest request. SAB was a HUGE hit last year.

We did not have a chance to check out the pool. But my kids LOVED it. (Dd age 12, DS age 10)

We absolutely loved it there. The pool area is nice, they have a big pool, nice slide and very nice kids splash area. It's easy to keep an eye on your kids there. The snack bar area is also nice, with tables.

We had a theme park view room in the tower, the first floor above the monorail. It was wonderful! We really enjoyed sitting on the balcony in the morning and watching the area "wake up". We'd hear the train, see the monorail and the ferry, the little boats from the resorts, the people. It was so cool. Then Wishes from the balcony too.

The hardest part was the crowded elevators because of Chef Mickey's. Sometimes it was hard to get to our room from the lobby.

Given the choice, I would take CR over any other monorail resort.

I was another who never had the desire to stay at CR but when I finally did.....LOVED it!!

We've stayed twice now, once in a huge 2 BR CL suite on the 14th floor with a lake view (that was a magical upgrade :)) and the 2nd time, we booked a regular room Atrium CL and got magically upgraded to a 1 BR suite on the 14th with a TPV. I have no negatives about CR and would stay there again in a heartbeat. The only one that was underwhelmed was my youngest DD but she's a hard nut to crack sometimes :upsidedow. As for the pools, we all enjoyed the bulls eye (quiet pool) more than the main pool but to be fair, my girls are older (22 & 18).

I would like to try the Contemporary one day, but I am kinda afraid too. I have an extreme fear of heights and elevators. No joke. If I were to book a room there, I couldn't stay higher than the 1st-4th level of rooms. If they were to put me up much higher I would have a panic attack. I imagine that most people are the exact opposite and like the higher levels. The Hilton Orlando worked with me this past June and made sure I was on the 3rd floor there, so who knows? Maybe one day.
