Just checked in to OKW

Last year while staying at OKW our air conditioner was not working properly. I made a call at 10:15pm. Within 10 minutes a hvac specialist arrived. After about an hour of work and replacement of a motor the repair was completed. I thanked the specialist for being prompt and professional. He said it was his pleasure and without guests he wouldn’t have a job.

Glad you moved. We had to move at the poly last year because the air conditioning was broke. Maintenance came in and said thermostat was broke and we’d have to manually turn it on and off. At a place that is $500+?

And yet we've gotten some more in depth repairs done at other locations. A thermostat is like 10 minutes - max! At SSR the tub was dripping. The changed out the control valve. Had a bad outlet there too - that was changed quickly too. Same with an outlet at BWV - it was changed on the first call.

I can't disagree. We did move to building 64, and the room (and view) is MUCH better. And as DH pointed out, the doors and remote work. As he said, our remote not working may seen like a little thing, but while you might accept it at a Comfort Inn (which we've stayed at and liked), at a Disney deluxe hotel it seems tacky. Plus we have throw pillows! However, I can definitely see that OKW desperately needs a refurbishment. Looks like buildings 46, 47, and 48 are currently being done. Then we'll return, like you, AFTER the refurbishment.
I'd like to bet someone removed the batteries from the remote and replaced them with old ones. As for OKW, we were just there in January and didn't find any problem as usual. It was clean and maintained.

Oh great! DH came back after golf to water all over our entry floor. He reported it , then went out to lunch. Came back-no more water, but they left the water that was there for us to clean up.

How can you? With the little kitchen sponge? Did you call to ask them to do it.

I'm having a hard time picture the "no more water, but they left the water that was there for us to clean up." Where was the water coming from? I guess you mean they got that stopped but did not clean up? I'd be calling housekeeping asap.

We stayed in 2014 and 2015 and our rooms were in good shape, fortunately. I guess the takeaway here is that resorts may need to be on a more frequent refurb schedule. Old Key West is 27 years old at this point. Have any major renovations been done prior to the one that is currently going on?

Interesting that BWV rooms were already renovated despite the resort being about 5 years newer.

OKW was the first resort to receive a refurb that was more than just soft goods. It was supposedly a 90% refurb and done in 2010 or so I believe.

This makes me very nervous for our upcoming trip! We are staying at OKW May 23 - May 27. This will be our first stay there. Hope we have better luck .

Oh, and by the way, as nice as the front desk manager was, we got back tonight and found very little done.
Well, unfortunately there's little to be done about the 27 year old grout, thankfully they're gutting the bathrooms from top to bottom in the refurb! I'm so sorry for you, you seem to be encountering problems everywhere you land. Though I must admit that in 19 years worth of DVC stays, 80% in an OKW 2bd , other than lightbulbs, I can't complain about the housekeeping, the buses or the condition of the villas. Though I didn't like my 2 night stay in a Studio (only due to the area), I understood that it was probably due to the refurb. With that said, the studios do take a beating. I didn't catch what size villa you had.

We were in a 1 BR. They could have replaced the remote to a working one and given us some throw pillows. I agree about the grout on the bathroom floor, but it's so sad to think that they couldn't have cleaned the stained floor any better. Maybe they couldn't-if that's the case, I can't wait for the refurbishment to finish. And I forgot to mention the shower door-it not only didn't close, it looked like it was going to fall off any second. Anyone who'd looked around couldn't miss it. This was about our 8th stay at OKW, and everything was fine till now. DH's favorite resort.

we've never experienced anything like you are saying. i'm glad you decided to move, as we would too lol

does anyone know when the refurb is done? we went two years ago and our room/stay was great.

I'm not familiar at all on how room assignment goes but it would be my guess that each front desk person knows of areas/villas that are maybe worse than most. Perhaps with the lack of available inventory due to the refurb, some of these tatty rooms are back in use. If I ever had a villa in the condition of Simba's Mom, I'd be at the front desk, PRONTO. Shower door not closing, I didn't buy into Motel 6.

two years ago we were in a G V in Building 15 and it was good but we had ants.
I’ve had 2 family reunions In that same grand villa, luckily no ants! Loved its proximity to Hospitality House and near the entrance.
