Just Booked My Vacation!!!

This will be our first time to WDW and I'm thrilled as EVER!!

We are staying at AKL and thanks to AAA Southern California for their help!! I have a 5 year old (well, he'll be 5 when we go) and my travel agent told me that AKL was PERFECT for someone his age - is this true?

Also, I'm getting the Platinum dining package (thank goodness I don't have to worry about shelling out extra $$$$ for food) - I was wondering some good restaurants at WDW. Please help me out - this is what I'm looking for:

Best breakfast buffet?
Best dinner buffet?
Best pancakes?
Best sandwiches?
Best character dining?
Best pasta place?
Best spa?
Best alcoholic drinks?

After our WDW stay, we'll be heading over to Universal and staying at the Hard Rock for 3 days - so any insight that you have on that would be great too!!!

Best dinner buffet? - Cape May Buffet
Best pancakes? - many places have decnet pancakes
Best sandwiches? - Earl of Sandwich
Best character dining? - Chef Mickey's
Best pasta place? - Mama Melrose, Tutto Italia
Best spa? - GF
Best alcoholic drinks? - not sure on this one but I do like the margaritas at CSR
Best Burger - Pinocchio's Village Haus, Sci-Fi, Pepper Market

Congratulations! You'll have a great trip no matter where you stay. All of the resorts at WDW are geared towards families with younger children, so anywhere's fine.

My favorite breakfast buffet is the Crystal Palace in the Magic Kingdom. They have a good varity of food, and it's a really nice way to start a Magic Kingdom touring day.
We really don't go to many dinner buffets, but again, Crystal Palace is really nice. Make sure to get ADR's well in advance.
Kona has the best macidamia nut pancakes.
IMO, Kona has some really good sandwiches, but they don't really specialize in them. For that you would have to go to Earl of Sandwich in Downtown Disney. I don't think they are covered by the Dining Plan, but you never know.
Character dining is good pretty much anywhere, but if you are looking to get attention from the characters, Cinderella's Royal Table is pretty good. If you don't want the princess theme, I would go to the classic, Chef Mickey's at the Contemporary.
To be honest we don't eat much pasta in WDW, but there is a new Italian restaurant in Epcot called Tutto Italia. I've heard it's good, but the prices are high. And, I don't know if it is on the Dining Plan.
Best spa is probably the Grand Floridian. It's the #1 resort in Disney, so I'm guessing the spa would match. Maybe someone else who posts will be able to help.
Lapu Lapu at the Polynesian's Lounge. You have to see them to believe them!
The best burger IMO is at the Polynesian's "Captain Cook's" restaurant. They come with Polynesian Chips, which aren't too great, but the burger itself is excellent.

Best character dining? - Depends on which Characters yopu want to see.
Best pasta place? - Mama Melrose, Tutto Italia

Best alcoholic drinks? - Every resort seems to have a specialty.
Best Burger? - Pinocchio's Village Haus, Sci-Fi, Pepper Market, Beaches and Cream.

Have fun at AKL, it's our favorite resort. After our last trip my wife instituted a new rule, we always stay at AKL.

We love the AKL. Our boys are 4,2, and 1 and they love it. We can't imagine staying anywhere else. Although this past trip we did a split stay 8 days AKL CL and 8 days Poly CL and we loved it there too. But for some reason we feel at home at the AKL. Have a great trip.

With these questions you will find out just how much everyone's tastes differ.

Best breakfast buffet?....I loved Cape May at the Beach Club.
Best dinner buffet?...Crystal Palace at MK gets my vote for this one.
Best pancakes?...The Sweet Potato Cakes at Boatwrights located at the POR resort are very good! But if you are not staying at POFQ or POR it is out of the way.
Best sandwiches?...Another vote for Earl of sandwich at DTD.
Best character dining?...I think this depends on which characters you want to see. I loved the Princesses in Norway at EPCOT. And Chef Mickey's is fun and you get to see the big cheese
