Just Booked HHI!

Hi everyone. I have been looking for the boards for years, and now I'm a member. Just called MS and booked HHI for 4 nights in January of 2011. I live in the sunshine state, and am looking to have a classic American Roadtrip vacation. This will be my first time in HHI.

I find there is little about the Disney Resort in HHI. Everyone who has been there has never been disappointed. I've been a DVC member since the early 90's and finally decided to stay there.

What kind of activities are there in the winter? I am looking to sit back and take in the local sights. The cold weather will not scare us.

Please post if you have been there and remember the resort.

The accommodations look classic DVC. No corners cut, like BLT.

I don't see any reason you won't enjoy your stay.
Yes it could be chilly. It was cold starting 2010.
The resort will have daily activities and there is plenty of history in the Lowcountry to take in. Day trips to Savannah, Beaufort and Charleston are recommended.
Over 200 island restaurants will also add variety.

I visit National Parks/Monuments, and missed out on seeing Ft. Pulaski because we just didn't have enough time! If we ever are on the Savannah side of HHI, I would stop there.

DH and I had only a weekend there last October, over Halloween weekend and the CM's were very friendly. We enjoyed the Campfire, and I suppose those are held year around. Bike riding could be possible for you and there are lots of bike paths. We loved the seafood at the Sea Shack and other restaurants that were recommended here on the board.

Thanks for the info. The HHI Guide has lots of info. I would love to see some more pictures of the property.

We use HHI as our weekend getaway - 2 or 3 times a year. I recommend doing a restaurant tour of HH - We don't golf but you can year 'round in HH. Good quite time for me and DW (grandkids loved it too).

Where do you suggest we dine while we are in HH?

The Best of the Best in Hilton Head would be great!!!!

when you check in the cms will give you dining guides, and we found them to be very helpful. if you don't want to leave your room, there is a restaurant delivery service, which is also pretty neat. you order from one of the restaurant's menus and this delivery service will bring it to your room! the info is in the restaurant guides.

We go to HH every year and we find that the best thing to do is relax. Sleep in, hit the hot tub, eat out, go shopping and so forth. I kind of like the mall. It is rather sleepy compared to most malls but there is a J Crew outlet and a Belk I like. Harbor Town is nice to visit although it is better in the summer as there is more activity and Greg Russell sings at night. I would still check out Harbor Town and Sea Pines if you are interested.

One word of caution though. If you bring bikes be sure to hose them off at the end of your trip. The cold air mist will cover your bikes with salt water and ruin them.

While in HH, we plan on relaxing, eating, and fishing. We also are going to stop in Savannah for the day. There are too many things not to miss there.

I would suggest eating at the Crazy Crab at the north side location where the shrimp boats come in.

My fav is Marley's Island Grill, neighborhood type place. Aqua is good upscale (I don't drink but I understand they have excellent bar). Hilton Head Diner is very good breakfast/lunch, close to resort. Kingfisher's at the entrance to HHI is also good. Old Oyster Factory has been featured on Food Network, but I wasn't impressed - mostly fried, mostly like you can get anywhere (we went on slow night so it might be better on busier nights since i is a very large restaurant and kitchen geared for crowds.) You might want o find places during the day because Hilton Head does not allow lighted signs and finding places at night a challenge (ever Walmart). If you have kids and want great pizza try Monster Pizza in Bluffton - very out of the way but worth the drive - we usually go on the way home (we drive to HH). Most restaurants in HH up to "Disney" standards.
