What exactly is the difference b/t that and a standard besides $50?

Standard has a parking lot view, the other has a variable view - either lake, pool, garden.

Do you know if they are any closer to the tower?

Well, I'd say the majority are closer to the tower. You could be at the end of the hall in a standard, but you could be way down by the lake in a garden.

BUT a parking lot view usually has a monorail view and a great view of MK. If you want close to the Tower ask to near the pool side.
