This will be making our 7th trip to Disney in January 2010 for our 10th anniversary. All our previous trips have been May/June. I don't have any idea what kinds of temps to expect for January weather. Is it long pants and jackets weather? Are we going to regret going in January? If we have to change the date, we'll have to wait until May/June 2011. I don't think I can handle the withdrawl until then!!

TIA for your comments/suggestions.

BTW we'll be staying at Wilderness Campground.

expect lows maybe in the 50's and most often in the 60's, highs in the very comfortable 70's. Early AM you will want a wind-breaker, light jacket, or just a long sleeved shirt, same if you go ouit in the evening, but overall - "no sweat" and that means no sweating....

PS we prefer January over any other time

We have been the past 3 years in January and LOVE it! The crowds are low and the weather is perfect. Obviously you will want to check the weather before you go, but in the past, we have left out in capris, short sleeves, and sandals with a light jacket or wind breaker. Around noon, we tie our jackets around our waist or put them in our back pack and break them out again when the sun goes down. January/February is my favorite time of year to be at WDW! Last year the kids even went for a swim and really enjoyed it. I believe all of the pool waters are heated. It was still a little too cool for my taste, but I enjoyed watching them.:)

Always be prepared for COLD weather in FL in the winter. The weather can surprise you at times. Our very first trip to the world was in March 98. It was very cold that week and we were not prepared for temps in the lower 40s, upper 30s. Thank goodness for Wal-Mart. We learned our lesson on that trip and always pack for the unexpected. With the trailer it makes it really easy to drag along extra clothing that you might not actually need. Always better to have it and not need it than be making that trip to Wal-Mart. Also remember that even when not bitterly cold, that waiting for a parade or fireworks show in the evenings can chill you quite a bit.

We've also taken 2 trips in December and both times were hit with cold weather (upper 30's for lows). I actually prefer this over the sweltering heat of the summers, just make sure that you are prepared for anything in FL.

I'm going to agree with all of those who have posted so far- January is a great time to visit FW!

We have visited on MLK weekend many, many times.

Some years it has been very cold. Near freezing.

Some years I wore shorts and a t-shirt all weekend. Never even needed a jacket. In fact, I remember being at the MK and being hot!

Some years it has been freezing one day and hot the next.

But, every year, we have had a great time.

So, be prepared for cold weather, but bring warm weather clothes too.

And, have a great trip!

I, also, prefer camping in Florida in the November to March time frame, and avoid June, July and August at the Fort (most of the time).

Thanks to all for the information. Looks like I need to plan for weather like we have in Oklahoma in January! LOL!! Thank goodness for lots of closet space in our Fiver. We'll cover the bases and pray for good weather! Maybe we will run into some of you there??

You will HATE FtW in January. Please call and cancel your ressie at 8:59pm EST tonite. I will call at 7:00am EST tomorrow morning and snag your ressie. I will bear the brunt of the f-f-f-f-freezing cold temps in January for you. You can thank me by sending me beer.

Now, now des. You wouldn't be trying to take advantage of little ole me would you?? LOL!! Hey, if we ever wind up at WDW at the same time, I'll buy anyway just because I'm a nice person. Have a good one.....

Okay! I never refuse free beer. That's why I have highly trained, beer stealing otters at my command!

Seriously, January can be freezing in the morning & night & pleasantly cool in the afternoon. It can also be very warm. Keep an eye on Orlando weather for the time you intend to be here. That'll give you a better idea of how to pack.

Last January we had the worst freeze I've seen in many years while we were at the Fort. The car had ice on it two mornings in a row.

One of my favorite tips is to pack "off-season" clothes in SpaceBags and stow them somewhere out of the way (even in basement compartments) since they are bug- and moisture-proof. Vacuumed-down even bulky winter coats and sweaters take up little space. In January it might be shorts, tees and swimsuits that get the SpaceBag treatment.

I'll be there the last two weeks of Jan 2010 with the grandkids. We go most every year in the Jan-Feb window. We've seen all kinds of temps, from hot to c-c-cold, but any weather is better at the Fort than at home! :thumbsup2

Come on down, you'll have a great time! :cool1:  :dance3:

Best Regards!

We've been in January twice and both times had very pleasant weather (highs 60's,lows 50's). My DH and DD10 wore shorts and DDs and I wore capris. We wore sweatshirts in the mornings and evenings and put them in the stroller during the day. Great touring weather for Disney! We did avoid water rides, although the kids HAD to go to the pool. DH and I had fun betting which blue-lipped kid could stay in the longest!

I hear you snipe. Here in Oklahoma, January temps can range from -10 to 80 (maybe in the same week). Any temp in FL has got to be better than at home! Just to see something GREEN will bolster my winter blues. :thumbsup2

After all, we all need to do our part to bolster the economy. Uh huh. That's what I tell Goofy Gary anyway! LOL!! So far, he's buying that story.

Just like a bad day at golf is better than a good day at work; bad weather at Fort Wilderness is better than good weather at home. (Bad being relative here and not talking about hurricanes, tornadoes and other such nasty things that we can do without wherever we are)

It is worth a chilly morning for the low crowds. We have always been faily lucky and been able to shed the jackets and swim by afternoon. You just have to be prepared for anything. I keep a little bit of everything packed in the camper "just in case".

Good for you! My 401K will appreciate your efforts. Love your tag line, we are truly blessed, too. The ability to go to FW and WDW is wonderful! ;)

We're booked for 15 to 31 Jan 2010. Hope to get all four grandkids there with their parents, two the first week (4 & 2 GD's) and the other two (5 &2 GS's) the second week. It is wonderful to see WDW thru their eyes. :)

Best Regards!

Doing Disney with grandkids is THE BEST!! Yours are the perfect age to really experience the magic. I hope you have a wonderful time!

After the Jan 2010 trip, we are going back when youngest granddaughter is 5 (4 years from now) and I already can't wait! That first trip is pure magic! They may (will) run these old folks into the ground, but that's okay. lol! We'll keep up as long as we can and then go back to the campground and let the younger folks get after it.

We feel so blessed that they want us to be a part of their memories and would not miss it for anything!

Hope your trip is extra special!

I predict you will end up loving Jan. As all before have stated, weather is tricky, but the crowds are much lower and even if you catch weather in the 30's, it usually always warms up nicely by about 10.
Bet you'll have a new favorite time of year. :thumbsup2

Now ya'll have me anxious about going in January! Hope it works out as well as you have experienced. I'm thinking Goofy Gary is going to have to take me quite a way further south to do any swimming though. Those heated pools are great as long as your in them, but brrrrrrrrr when you have to get out! lol! I'm just not that brave anymore. Just call me "wimpy, wimpy" today. ;)
