Just booked at Poly, which longhouse should we choose?

Well, this is our first trip ever to Disney and we are so excited! I requested the Tokelau longhouse because we have 2 children and want to be near the volcano pool and also want to be near the Great Ceremonial House. After looking at Tikkimans map, I'm thinking we would rather choose Rarotonga. Also, should we ask for a balcony on 3rd floor? any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Chris

We stayed in Samoa, right next to the pool. I didn't find it overly noisy. We were on the 2nd floor and had a nice view of landscaping and a bit of the kids sprinkler area. The next time we stay there, I will ask for this longhouse again.

HTH!

I second the Samoa building. On one side you will face the quiet pool and on the other you will face the volcano pool. We were on the third floor and enjoyed the balcony. Tokelau is nice with great views but is quite a bit further from the GCH than Samoa. Samoa is a 30-second walk to the back lobby entrance or Capt Cook's counter service. We'd request Samoa again in a heartbeat.

Depending on how young your kids are you may want a bottom floor room.

This way if they nap (or one of them naps), you can lock the front door to your room & sit outside on the lanai.

We did this on our last trip when our daughter was 15 months old. When we went back to our room for our mid-day break we put her in the crib & we went to sit outside to read, talk, etc...

We were also able to take turns doing laundry with one of us sitting out there (the door was cracked open to listen for her) & getting drinks/snacks.

We plan on doing the same this summer since my son will be just under 2 & still need to nap so one of us can stay on the lanai while the other takes my soon to be 4 yo daughter to the pool during our breaks.

Even though it is nice to be by the pools & GCH, you might want to think really hard where you want to stay:

If you stay too close to where the luau (can't spell that word) is, it may get noisy at show time (so I have heard as I have never stayed on that side of the Poly).

The pools can get noisy too. I have stayed in longhouses that are by the pools & have never had a problem but I have read about the noise from other sites in the past.

I prefer the 3 longhouses closest to the TTC (off hand I can't remember their names) just being that you are pretty much in between both monorail stops (the Poly's & the TTC's). Yes it is a little walk to the TTC & main pool but the walk isn't that bad.

And don't forget if it rains to know your way back to your longhouse by cutting through the other longhouses. My husband thought I was nuts one year (this was pre-being married) when I ran him through about 4 longhouses just to stay fairly dry. He has since learned how to go.

Just keep in mind that while you can request a longhouse, it's completely based on availability, and you might not get that request met. Have a second choice, and perhaps even a third.

We stayed in Tokelau this past Sept. and it was great. It was not that far from the GCH and volcano pool. The quiet pool is right in front. A short walk to the TTC and if you are lucky and get the rooms toward the lagoon you actually get a lagoon view for GV prices! All the rooms (2 and 3rd flood) have balconies.

In Dec. we stayed in the longhouse that begins with an "A" (can't remember how to spell it). It was close to the Marina and GCH but everyone going to the luau was walking in front of our room. Everyone would stare as you were trying to sit and enjoy some peace. Although you could hear the luau outside you could not hear it in the room.

Have fun wherever you stay!

We stayed in Fiji and loved it! Great view of space mt., the contemporary and the electric water pageant.

On our trip last Nov, we requested Samoa but no availability. We stayed in a "garden view" on the 3rd floor of Fiji. We loved it! Our view was of the beach facing the Grand Floridian. We looked out at the GF's Wedding Chapel and could see the monorail. It was a great view, and quiet. The best part was that it was so close to the GCC and the monorail (we have 3 small kids). We never had much of a wait for the elevator, either.

I've been wondering what longhouse to request as well for our first Poly stay in May. It just seems like there are advantages to all of them, close to GCH or close to TTC, or close to beach...is there any longhouse that's bad and should be avoided?

We wanted Samoa but got Raratonga and it was great -- right on top of the lobby and close to laundry and arcade if you went out the back end. Sooo convenient. The only downside is that the front faces the parking, but the landscaping was so nice I don't think this was an issue. Our room faced the quiet pool. The building is newly-renovated and non smoking. We were in heaven!

We stayed at the Poly in Aug 2003 in the Tuvalu longhouse!! It was great! We had a lagoon view on the first floor. We normally like balconys but this was great. We walked about 20ft to where the lagoon is. There was a rope so little ones wouldn't fall it. Everynight was saw and heard Wishes form MK and saw the electic water parade on the lagoon. It was not too far from the pool. You could actually see the pool if you walked out of the longhouse and it was close to the Loby. We (me, DH, DD13(now 5) and DS9 (now 11))really enjoyed our stay!!  We would go back anytime.
