Just Booked at AKL

I have been going crazy reading the boards and deciding btwn AK or WL. Well, I just went ahead and booked AK for the savannah room..recommended by just about all DISer's. I'm going Dec 3-9!!! I've been to WDW before but my DH has not. After many years of begging, he finally agreed. I need to make sure he realizes the "magic" so we can go back every year. If anyone has recommendations of tours or any special tips to make the trip go smoothly I would appreciate it. Remember I need to convince a non-believer that this is the greatest place on earth!!! Thanks to all DISer's for all your advice.

First of all.... WELCOME TO THE DIS!!!!

Secondly... you will LOVE Animal Kingdom Lodge. It's our favorite resort and we have been to many. We stayed at BCV this past trip and found ourselves longing to go back to AKL. I would definitely request Zebra Trail overlooking Arusha Rock Savannah... we have been extremely lucky there.

We stayed at AKL last summer and LOVED it! The resort is truly wonderful.
We are going to WDW the exact same dates as your family! No AKL for us this time, I thing we are staying at SSR. Have fun!

Congratulations on your choice! I chose AKL "cold" just because I thought my soon to be 7 year old son would like it best. We will be going at the end of May.

I hope you don't mind if I ask another question here...

I found out yesterday that we are in a "savannah" room (we booked with a AAA TA) because we are Cat 5 (maybe 6?) on a Land/Sea Package. Could somebody please tell me what "concierge rooms" are? What are the added perks?

I'm thinking about booking a stay at AKL (or maybe WL) for the beginning of December too. Do you mind sharing who you booked through and what price you got?

After price shopping for days...I booked through WDW online. I got a quote from Expedia, AAA, Dreams Unlimited, and WDW. WDW and AAA had the same price, but WDW only required $200 deposit. I booked 6nights, savannah view, 5 day park hopper, and airfare for $2800. I was originally just going to book hotel and tickets, but the airfare was not much more. Also, one tip if you book through WDW for airfare and use Delta it is still only a $200 deposit. When I tried Continental my deposit rate went up. Hope that helps.

You are going to LOVE AKL. It is my favorite resort.

As for tours, I have done the Keys to the Kingdom, Backstage Magic and the Yuletide Holiday Tour, which should be running while you are there. All 3 of them were great tours. Keys to the Kingdom was just the Magic Kingdom, Backstage Magic was an all day tour, definitely worth the money. PM me if you want more info on any of them.

December is a great time to go. You can tour all the resorts also and see all the decorations.
