Just booked a trip in June -- am I crazy?

My family (we have 3 kids -- 6, 4, and 1) always travel in more off-peak seasons, so we've never truly seen a summer crowd, and I'm really nervous! But we are driving to Destin for a week at the beach and we had developers points to use, so we booked 6 days at SSR from June 8 through the 13th. So tell me, am I crazy? How bad are the June crowds? What can I expect? Any tips for me?

I'm slightly freaking out! :scared:

The early June crowds probably won't be too bad because a lot of school systems are still in session. Things don't really get into full swing until mid to late June. I think you will be leaving right when the huge crowds are starting to arrive.

We'll be at SSR 6/12-15. My "kids" are older, one in college and I work in a school. It's hard to find time when everyone can go. Last year we went in August and my son said "never again". It's been a long time since we've been in June, but we plan to take it slow, sleep late and spend lots of time by the pool. We have no ADRs and plan to wing it. See you there!

If you go to a park, go early and leave as soon as the crowds get heavy. Go back to the resort and nap or swim. Then go back for a bit in the evening if you want to do so - the parks will be open late.

When my daughter was the age of your kids, she was perfectly happy to spend hours and hours in the pool - bet yours will, too. SSR has several nice pools areas for you to enjoy.

Well if you are crazy we are crazy to:lmao: . We are going to be there from June 7-13th. DH decided he wanted to go for SSW and who am I to tell my DH no,That would not be a wonderful loving wife now would it?:rotfl2:

I'm glad to hear that I've got company in June!

We do plan to be up early to take in the parks before things get hot and crazy, then come back so DS1 can nap while I swim or do Community Center activities with DD6 and DS4. We've only been to SSR in the winter, when it was really too cold to use the pool, so I'm looking forward to spending lots of time poolside. And my kids are fish so they will be happy too!

I'm scouring TGM and UG for tips to make things as smooth as possible, but don't want to over-plan, since the kids tend to object when I'm not flexible. I'm thankful for any tips, though!

See you there!

When we went last year, (5/14-5/22) we noticed that around 5/19 and on, there were alot more school kids in the parks, especially day camps (tons of them). The parks were busy, but hey your in WDW!!!

Hey neighbor! :)

We always go in June. This year we will be there from the 9th - 16th, staying at AKV.

I totally agree with what others have said - go early, take that afternoon break and go back in the evenings. The weather is similar to what we get - a bit more humid - plenty of afternoon showers which cool things off for the evening. The crowds are moderate - worst on the weekends especially at the MK. Just take it slow, be patient and you will be fine. :goodvibes

We will be at AKV to. we were so lucky and was able to get a Value studio for 4 of our six nights when I booked about 3 weeks ago. The only bad thing is that we are on the waitlist and if it doesnt come through we are going to have to switch resorts in our stay. we have the AKV value studio June 7th then SSR 8th and 9th and then back to AKV for the 10th,11th and 12th.
So I am really hoping and praying that the 2 days will come through for us, We are not very fond of switching back and forth like that. But we will if we have to though.
Maybe we will see you there.

Neighbor! We were just out your way not too long ago, visiting friends in Rockwall!

Thanks for the tips. Have a great time at AKV, we will be there in December, I can't wait!

When our son was younger we didn't mind taking him out of school in October or February for a vacation. Now that he's older (12) and I am teaching we plan differently. We will be at AKLV 6/8-6/19. Last time we were down there in June was when our son played in MMD when he was 5 y.o. It was hot! Since we have been to Disney so many times already and will an AP we don't mind going to the parks for just a few hours at a time, taking a break and then going back again later in the evening.

Want to talk about crowds, try being in EPCOT on NYE when they reach capacity at 2:00pm. What a rush!

i'll be at the swan sat night may 31,
ssr jun 1,
bcv jun 2,
ssr jun 3-5,
back to the swan jun 6.

i'm waitlisted for bwv and bcv for the ssr nights since the kids prefer the epcot area.

We have always gone during the "slow" periods. We love Oct-Nov, and have gone Jan-Feb, and once in May. As our daughter gets older it will be more difficult to take her out of school, so we are going to be reading a lot more of these threads.

We had friends go right at the end of August and they had a good time. Very hot, but did the early mornings, afternoons back at the resort, and evenings in the parks.

We have no ADRs and plan to wing it.

We too are going in June, the 18th through the 27th. Only thing I can suggest is that if you want table service you may want to try to book ADRs. I spent about one hour on the phone yesterday trying to book mine. Some were really hard to get. For instance we could not get into the Coral Reef at all for dinner unless we wanted to eat later than 8:40pm.

So depending on where you may want to eat, some places may be difficult. There are so many variables, party size, where to eat, time requested. All I know is the only time my family ever argued in WDW is when for some reason we had no dining plans and couldn't find a desirable, affordable place to eat at a decent time.

06 we went during spring break :confused3 never again
07 we went the second week of June. Still busy and got caught under the bus stop for 30 mins waiting for the Hail Storm to stop.:scared1:
This year weir going to try the not so haunted scary mickey the last weekend of October. I figure kids can get up eat breakfast and do school in the morning and hit the parks by mid-morning around 9ish.

Ok we are going May 31- June 7th, I was thinking this will still be pretty slow. Was I delusional with this thought :hippie:

I'll be staying at SSR June 1-4....Plan on spending lots of time at the pool with a cold drink in my hand!;)

That has been my experience with the ADRs. too. We will be there June 17 to June 26. I made my ADR's in early March and had a heck of a time to making them. I finally decided to try some of the hotel cafes. I thought it would be nice to walk into the Grand Floridian and eat there too. My party isn't into the character dining so at least I didn't have a bigger challenge than I did. Next time, I will make my ADR's a lot sooner.

See you there!

Good plan! We were there June 4-13 last year, with my DSIS and her 7 and 8 year old. We hit the parks for opening, and were heading back to the resort by 2pm for swimming and drinks by the pool! :cloud9: We had ADRs for dinner every day, so we took the bus to dinner and then did whatever we felt like doing at night - very relaxing! :thumbsup2

2 Things I would have liked to have known:

1. At that time of year, it rains every afternoon - hard - sometimes with hail and wind. It seemed to happen about 2 or 3pm. Be sure you have ponchos with you!

2. Rent a car. With the crowds getting bigger, we wasted 10 hours waiting for buses. That's a whole day of vacation! One time it took us 2 1/2 hours to get to DTD from AK!
