We just returned. We ate at Chef Mickey's (walk-in) for dinner, The Land Food Court, Columbia Harbour House (yummy!), 1900 Park Fare for dinner with Cinderella, Flame Tree BBQ, Concourse Steakhouse for breakfast, Pinocchio Village Haus and one of our favorite places was Trails End Buffet (believe it or not!) for lunch and breakfast!
We had PS's for Whispering Canyon and 50's PT Cafe but we cancelled them. On the night we were supposed to go to WC, it was pouring buckets of rain. I didn't feel like dragging everyone out to the boat to get dinner. We just ate at the Food and Fun Center. Our night at 50's PT Cafe, we were enjoying ourselves at the pool too much. We decided to just stay and relax instead of rushing off to get dinner.
Does anyone have any questions? I can try to answer them.

Lisa :D

Good for you! Glad to see you were not a slave to your PS's.

OK, we've eaten at so many places at Disney - have too many
favorites. Please tell me about Trails End - getting such
good reviews on the boards. What were some of the things
on the buffet AT DINNER. Was there an area for fussy children
(you know, mac. & cheese, hot dogs, etc.) I'd really like to
try this place. Thanks.

I would LOVE to hear about your breakfast at Concourse Steakhouse. We have ressies there in about a week and a half, and I would love to hear what you thought of it.

I would love to hear about this breakfast. We have enjoyed lunches here but never breakfast. My son and I adore Eggs Benedict and understand it is on their breakfast menu. Did you by chance try it? We are leaving May 25 and planning on breakfast at Concourse on the 27 - did you have a PS?

Thanks so much!

Mama Quack

Please tell me what you had at Flame Tree BBQ, and Columbia Harbour House! That is on my list of places to try in August! Thanks!:Pinkbounc

Hey Taximom - I notice our countdown clocks say exactly the same thing!

Where are you staying?

My parents have a timeshare at Blue Tree, and they offered us a week! What a bargain!!!! We are very excited!:Pinkbounc :bounce:

First off, Minnie's Guy...we didn't have dinner at Trail's End, only Lunch and Breakfast. Trail's End Buffet is located at Fort Wilderness Campground. We took the boat from the Magic Kingdom to Fort Wilderness. It was a very nice cooling ride. We got to Trail's End before they opened. They don't open for lunch until noon. We were the first ones seated. The lunch offerings were very yummy. They had a very nice (yet simple) salad bar. They also offered Chili and soup. (that day it was 3 bean soup...I didn't try it but another patron was raving about it to the waiter) There was corn bread and buttermilk biscuits available near the soups. The Main Course offerings were again, simple yet yummy. They had a Ham and Cheese thingy:confused: that was kinda like a stuffed pizza without the sauce. It was very good. I think I recall they had a quiche, I don't remember what flavor and I didn't try it. They also had a stir-fry of some kind...I think it was pork. They also had fried rice that my kids loved! There were several other dishes that I didn't get a chance to try. They also had a section of kid selections (but adults could have it too;) ) They had pizza that was fairly good, mac and cheese (very cheesy!), and ummmm some other things...I can't remember now. There was also a deli section that had pieces of subs for you to take. I didn't have any of that but my son did. I didn't ask him how he liked it or what meat was in it. It looked good though. For dessert, there were fruits on the salad bar and whole fresh fruit on the buffet...and hot apple cobbler! All that was missing was the ice cream to put on top of it! ;) The lunch was very reasonable...$9.95 for adults and $6.95 for kids, including drinks. I think the adult price is for ages over 12yrs and the kids must be for ages 3 - 11yrs. We were charged for 3 kids and 3 adults. My kids are 12, 10, 7 and 3. Ken was our server for both our meals there and he was terrific! If your kids color the picture they give them, they will hang it on the wall! (They take them down each night.)
Trail's End opens for Breakfast at 7:30am and lunch at noon. I don't recall the closing times for each meal and I didn't check about dinner times.
I had read about this restaurant on these boards last yr but wasn't interested in it at the time. This trip, it just popped back into my head when we were thinking about some place out of the parks to eat. I'm so glad we tried it.
We were staying at the Contemporary and it was so convenient to just jump on the blue flag boat and ride over for a nice, inexpensive, relaxing meal...that wasn't fast food. BTW, the blue flag boat began its run at 7:30am and the last boat was at 10pm. (at least those were the hours last week)

I've gotta run now, but I'll get to the other questions soon.

Familyof6 - How was 1900 Park Fare Dinner?
We are going there on Saturday (yay - this Saturday :)) and still a bit skeptical. We have an early PS - 5:30pm. When did you eat? How was the noise? How was buffet? Any other comments?
Thanks very much!

Is Trail's End still serving fried chicken? I wanted to try this place in June as DH and DS really love fried chicken. Anyone know?

We did not have PS's for our breakfast at CSH. We walked in and had no wait. That was last Sunday, 4 May around 8am for a party of 11! We all enjoyed our breakfast. I especially enjoyed mine...see my post "AAAARRRRRGGGHHHH, I just discovered Sticky Mickey's on our last day!" (I'm not sure how to put a link in here) The Sticky Mickey's are to die for! I LOVED IT! I wish I had discovered it on our first morning there!
Another in our party ordered the Chef's Madness and was very pleased. He got the Eggs Benedict. He didn't mention how it tasted, but seemed to like everything.
My kids loved watching the monorail go right by! It was fun. My dd10 spotted a hidden mickey in the mural on the wall in the CSH. (she had a seat facing the wall) See if you can find it! ;)

Mama Quack, I think the above run down will pretty much cover your questions too. If not, just ask what more you'd like to know. Oh, my kids got the silver dollar pancakes with the M&M's. They all ate all of them and of course there wasn't one M&M left over! :p I think my dh got pancakes too...but honestly, I'm not sure. I was too involved with my Sticky Mickey to bother looking at anyone else! :earseek: OMG!!! It was SSSSOOOOOO goood!

Gotta Run again, but I'll get to the other questions later...

Oh, jaletu2000, there was fried chicken on the buffet at lunch at Trails End. That was one of the things I couldn't remember. I didn't get to try it though.:jester:

To be honest with you, we didn't care much for Flame Tree BBQ. It is entirely a personal preference and probably says nothing about the actual quality of the food. DH and I got the BBQ chicken. I really wanted to have the pork or beef but dd10 and I had decided to split a sandwich and that's what she wanted. The chicken seemed really dry to me and the seasoning was a bit too spicy for my liking. I really do think I would have enjoyed the pork or beef much better. DH didn't care for the beans because there was some sort of pepper (as in green pepper, not black pepper) in it, for which he didn't care. I thought they were ok. The corn cob was your typical frozen, watery, gummy corn. Some people like these. We really do not. Again, just a personal preference.
If you're just looking for a place to eat in AK, I can recommend Chakranadi Chicken Shop over in Asia. (we ate there last yr.) It's a great place to get your KRR fast pass and then sit and eat while you wait for your time. If they haven't changed it from last year, we found the chicken there to be moist and very flavorful! It is a bit awkward since they serve it in a wrap, but it's on the bone. There is no way it can be eaten the way it's served. You have to either take the meat off the bone and put it in the wrap or eat the wrap by itself. I didn't check to see if that's how they are still serving it though. I really wish we had eaten there again this year, but we decided to try something new.
DS12 and DD7 each had a turkey leg for lunch. We should have gotten one for them to split since they were so BIG! We ended up wasting about one whole leg since they couldn't finish them. They tasted more like ham than turkey. I knew that before we got them, since I had read it on this board!
Taximom, there is a whole long thread on this board about CHH. It gives a really great look at CHH with opinions on both sides. If I knew how to put a link in here I would direct you right to it. Since I don't know how to do that, you'll have to just scan down to find the thread. It's ongoing so it should be on page one or two.
I hope you have a great time on your trip. We just got back and honestly, I'd love to go back again right now! DH has another opinion though.

We had a very good meal at 1900 Park Fare. My first comment is, TRY THE CHILLED STRAWBERRY SOUP! It's heaven! It tastes like strawberries and cream...and it doesn't count as dessert! ;)
Ok, now on with the critique...
Our PS was for Saturday night...(last Sat) at 8PM. That's the earliest we could get by the time I called. It was a bit late for us, but I really wanted my dd3 to see Cinderella. (You should have seen her face! Priceless! :D ) When we arrived, we were told we would be seated within 40 mins. Quite a wait for having a PS. We were given a beeper but were told we had to stay to the right of the piano in the lounge area. I'm not sure if that's so the beeper would work or because they wanted to keep us from roaming around the GF. ;)
We were seated at around 8:30pm. Prior to being seated, we were able to have pix with the Fairy Godmother who was out in the foyer. She was very, very nice. (but I must say, she tended to have some masculine qualities about her...my dd10 said she looked like a guy. )
Cinderella was very near our table just after we were seated and DD3 was so excited that she was "almost here!", and then she went to the other room! It was 9:30pm before she came back! I was quite disappointed by that. We were just about ready to go. I'm not sure why it took so long for her to get to our table. The mice had time to come by two or three times! Prince Charming was quite charming and he was terrific with the kids. He even held one little one who was with our group. DD3 was quite taken with him and gave him a hug. She was beaming!
The buffet was very good, IMHO. I will mention it again. Try the Strawberry Soup! I almost passed it by....

Oh dear gotta run.
I'll finish this later!
Lisa :D

[backstage at MK, Cinderella's castle]
Phil: Well, Rachel's still not here. Looks like no Fairy Godmother today. We can't do a photo session with just mice! So no photo session.
Ramon: Wait! I can do it! I'll do Fairy Godmother!
Phil: Get serious, Ramon! You're a guy. Guys can't do Fairy Godmother.
Ramon: I AM serious! I've been doing Fairy Godmother for years! You know, for laughs, at parties and stuff. Tell him, Nate!
Nate: It's true. I've seen him. He's actually not bad.
[Phil looks around the room to see nodding of heads, mixed in with some rolling of eyes.]
Phil: All right Ramon. You're on in ten! Somebody get him a costume. Cathy, make sure it's padded right. Ramon, your voice better not crack or you're history.
[Ramon leaves for the dressing room]
Phil: Cathy, you make sure he NEVER gets ahold of a Cinderella costume, or it'll be YOUR head on the floor along with mine. Understand?!
Cathy: (snicker) You got it, Phil.

Lisa - Thanks! If we get the same Fairy Godmother, I guess it'll even out the guy/girl ratio for DS :p
Thanks for the review. I would probably have never tried the Strawberry Soup - I'll definately give it a go......I love strawberries - but soup......
Looking forward to it. I'm really glad we have the first PS - made the PS ages ago, so we shouldn't have to wait too long.
Thanks again for the review and I'll let y'all know our thoughts upon our return.
Erikthewise - TOO FUNNY!

That's just so funny! I can just imagine it. I will have to say again...The Fairy Godmother was VERY NICE and VERY good with shy kids! Perhaps if she didn't have the wig on, she would have looked less masculine. I don't know how to put a picture in here or I would show you what I'm talking about. ;)

Yzma, There was a nice selections of salads and a couple of soups. Then there were several other dishes. Off the top of my head I can't recall exactly what. I know there was turkey, stuffing, herb roasted pork, some kind of fish, prime rib au jus, summer squash medley, corn nibblets, orange glazed carrots, I think there were either green beans, wax bean or both, egg rolls, and a bunch of other things I am forgetting. There was also a childs buffet with mac and cheese, chicken nuggets, pizza, mini hot dogs, and more. There was a small dessert table for the kids that had gummies, cupcakes, m&m's, cookies, and lots of other candies. The adult desserts were strawberry shortcake (make your own), individual key lime pies, bread pudding with vanilla sauce, apple cobbler (I think that's what it was next to the bread pudding), rice krispie treats, and lots of other little sweets to choose.
Just FYI, the buffet is DIFFERENT on both sides, unlike Chef Mickey's where it's the same on each side and meets at the carving station. I think everyone was very happy with the meal we had at 1900. The meats were very good, not dry. The veggies were fairly good. Oh, there was something with mussels in it if you're into seafood. I'm not big on jambalya or whatever it was. You certainly won't go away hungry though! (whatever your tastes)
I think with your PS, you should have a very nice time. It's early enough that you won't be as tired as we were! And we had a family with us who were staying at Fort Wilderness...the last boat back is at 10pm from the Contemporary. We had to hurry to get them back to the boat in time! It was close!

Enjoy! (and have some Strawberry soup for me! ) That and the Sticky Mickey's at Concourse Steakhouse are now my new favorite foods at WDW!

Lisa :)

Lisa -
Just back from our WDW weekend (not long enough...I must say!)
1900 Park Fare was excellent.
I LOVED the strawberry soup, and kept telling people at the buffet to try it :D
All the characters were excellent - especially the mice. Also know what you mean about Fairy Godmother.....;)
DH and I had a good quiet laugh, as I told him about erikthewise's story!
Thanks again, and I highly recommend 1900 Park Fare - especially if you can get an early PS

Oh, you are making me hungry! I'm so glad you enjoyed the soup and your dinner! Now you get my drift about the fairy godmother....s/he's as sweet as can be! ;)

I just found out that WDW is giving military 5 day passes and family can buy $99-5 day passes! Two weeks late! I just got online to see what the expense would be for me and dh to go for my 40th birthday! I doubt I could get him to go again so soon, but you never know.

I'm so glad to hear back about your experience and I'm happy that my suggestion was a winner! :jester:

Lisa :D
