Goodness. you doth protest too loudly!
I merely remarked that there were so many-walking around was tough. Not to mention that my daughters foot was run over 3x! If people want to eat their way to immobility-so be it!

Some people are overweight because of phyical mobility issues not the other way around too though.
I can't walk much anymore and I really fight with my weight.

I realize that--I said for many it IS legitimate. For many-it is not.

I witnessed a horrible accident in Disney. Disney took care of us- those of us that witnessed it. One woman, ECV, was whining because she wanted food while we waited. They got her what she asked for, Potato Chips. I know-this is not typical of all.

Sad.

Sorry to disappoint you, but I have never been on one. Neither has any of the people I have travelled with.

It just cracks me up on these threads when they are started by somebody absolutely knowing for sure that people don't need the ECV's. Like they personally every single rider's personal situation. It is laughable.

I actually used a wheelchair at WDW 2 summers ago, after I got sick.. I was afraid i'd run someone over on an ECV..I'm not sure why people feel the need to go full speed in them

I most certainly don't know every persons situation. Did I imply that I did? If so-my apologies. I thought I had said for Many they were not needed. I base that on the fact they FLEW out of them as soon as they made it to the ride and shoved folks out of the way to get in there first. Whatever ailed them-soon passed!:confused3

Oooh - that is just so wrong. You are not a nice person, hunny, sorry.
I really think you need to stop. Think. Then speak.... or not.

As a former CM, I can say that it is a problem. I have run into many people who rent them and then yell at me when they do not get front of line access on many rides because the rides can accommodate them through the normal line. Sadly, there are more people than we would like to admit who rent them thinking they won't have to wait in line ever. That is not the case anymore. These are the people that I despised dealing with because they became downright abusive to the CM's.

Now, this was a small but vocal minority. The vast majority of people were very understanding. Sometimes they would leave the ECV outside the ride and walk the line because a transfer to a wheelchair was required. On rides with elevated load platforms like Winnie the Pooh pushing the wheelchair up the line can be very difficult, so it was easier for them and their family to walk. This does not necessarily mean that the person did not need it. Most people who rent have enough stamina that they can stand in the line, but an entire day of walking is too much.

I have been run over by several ECV's, and had my achilles tendon damaged by one. The biggest gripe that CM's have is that many people do not know how to drive them and turn the speed up to fast. We have sent many people to first aid because somebody did not know how to drive their ECV.

There are several things that WDW can do to alleviate the problems with the ECV's while still having them available for those that need them:
1.) Teach people how to drive them. Have them do little course around the rental place to show that they know how to drive it before turning them loose in the parks.
2.) Widen walkways so that there is enough room for the ECV's and pedestrians. They also need to paint the curb on mainstreet a different color because in the dark you cannot see where the curb ends and the sidewalk begins. I have seen several people go off that curb at night.

The ECV's are a great aid for those that truly need it, and really, the vast majority of people are responsible and kind. Sadly, it's the vocal few who ruin it for everybody else.

I also noticed a LOT of them during this trip-during the Food & Wine Fest at WDW. At night, it was a constant watching out for them.

The best was when we went to hear those guys in Kilts at Canada play & parked right behind the last row of seats (and in front of a mass of standing guests-were a couple-husband and wife and their scooters (which they owned apparently) -had these huge tent like umbrella things on top of them to shade from the sun-but it was DUSK!! Talk about block everyone's view & incinsiderate.

Actually-I am a nice person. I am not sitting in judgement of those that are overweight. Just those that abuse a system and cause grief for others in the process. It's a crutch..and makes crowded situations unpleasant. I paid my money to get in too and often, it was pretty stressful.
